Pattern-Illusionist in Undead Campaign?

Advice

Hello,

in my game I have a Pattern-Illusionist. He is a Gnome-Sorccerer.

They are in the Mines of Zolurket and fight hordes of undead.

What can he do to not be useless or what should I do to not make him feel useless

What spells does the character have and what is the character's bloodline?

Also, you might have better luck in the Advice forum.

Undead are immune to all mind-affecting effects, including patterns. So your pattern spells won't work on them. That also means your phantasm spells won't work, either.

Undead are NOT immune to the other illusion subschools, so you can use your figment, glammer, and shadow spells against them.

You'll also want to have spells from your non-specialized schools at the ready, particularly your evocation and vonjuration spells.

[EDIT: Re-read your initial post, and now see you're a sorcerer... Above advice assumed you were a wizard. In that case, it really depends on what non-pattern spells you've got. You might want to stock up on some wands that are effective against undead, like a wand of fireball.]

Agree with other posters, point being that Sorceror above all others should not over-specialize because they can't as easily change Spells Known. Although you should be aware of means to expand your effective spells known, namely Pages of Spell Knowledge, Ring of Spell Knowledge, and Mnemonic Vestment. All of those are in Ultimate Equipment and on Paizo's PRD. Also good to expand number of spells known are Feats: Extra Arcana and Eldritch Heritage II:Arcane.

Also agree re: usability of figment/glamer (as well as shadow) aspects of Illusion school, namely making them believe things about you/environment that are not true, thus altering their actions... often without even needing to invoke Will Save, e.g. an illusion which conceals you/party and projects a false floor over pit/chasm with illusionary version of you/party atop it could lure mindless undead to fall into pit. (and they may likely get Reflex Save to avoid falling off, rather than Will Save, since "interacting with illusion" only happens after putting themselves at risk of falling). Or less dramatic, an illusionary wall between you and them. Even if one passes it's save and continues thru, the rest of mindless undead will be too stupid to understand what happened. This is ultimately one of most powerful aspects of Illusion, but one which is more situational and demanding than simple "push X button(spell) get X result".

Ultimate Magic does have Threnodic Spell Metamagic which allows mind-affecting spells to target any Undead, and also comes in Metamagic Rods. Undead BL Sorcerors of course can use all such spells on Undead as if they were Humanoid.
