Rolling a natural 20 - Stabilize

Rules Questions

Grand Lodge

Hi everyone.

Just recently in our game a friend was brought to -5 hit points.
On his turn he rolled a natural 20 on the stabilize check.

For some reason im under the impression that if you on this check roll a 20 you are stable and concious. Im not sure where i remember this rule from and i cant seem to find any entry about this rule.
Anyhow, he was on horseback when he recieved the blow that brough him below 0.
Thanks in part to my inscistence that this rule existet he luckily managed to flee on horseback from the horrible situation he was locked into.

Am i totally wrong here or do this rule actually exist?

(PS, he really didnt deserve to die :( )

you auto stabalize but no you are not consious atleast as far as i know

You are not conscious unless you are healed into zero or more HP, so you should have remained unconscious.
If the GM wanted your character to survive he could have stated that, despite being unconscious, you remained horseback and your horse ran away from the danger, allowing you to survive.
Also, IIRC, you don't get to make the roll to stabilize the same round you fall unconscious but the next one on your turn. You rather stabilize or lose an additional HP.

Thank you both.

Kileanna:
The Dm allowed him to roll on his turn, dont know why, im gratefull now.
It was "thanks" to me that he survived then by using a rule that may be a fantasy in my own head. :\

Anyway, I'm glad your character survived!

It wasnt my character, it was my characters uncle :\

Im also really glad i he survived, the whole escape scene was f&%#ckin heroic.

Well, even if it was someone else's character I'm still glad he survived;-P
Losing a character is never cool.
But it doesn't matter if rules said it wasn't possible, if it gave a good and epic scene, the character survived and you enjoyed, it was good.

that's a thing in 4e i think - might be remembering it from there
