Custom Portable Hole

Hello, my party and I just defeated a dragon with a substantial horde. We have a Portable Hole to transport everything, so we're good, but we were wondering how much a Portable Hole enchanted with the ability to convert lesser value coins (Copper/Silver) into higher value coins (Gold/Platinum). Is it even possible? Maybe with the Fabricate spell?

No.

I mean, it's homebrew, so do whatever you want.

But no.

Are you asking if you can do a currency exchange (10 coppers for 1 silver) or if you can transmute do a direct transmutation (10 coppers for 10 platinum pieces)?

The former would be reasonable and probably not cost that much.

The latter would be gamebreaking.

Bring back the demonic moneychangers?

Seems like the perfect job for an Alchemist ... if Alchemists in Pathfinder could transmute metals. ;)

hey - I'm the GM - they're looking for something to convert all coins to their equivalent worth in platinum/gold - so you put 1000 copper or 100 silver or 10 gold in, you get 1 platinum

In that case just hand wave it.

I'd just say it costs 3600 gp to add that ability to the portable hole. That's the price of an at-will 1st level spell effect. If you don't want to ding them for it, then maybe have them do a favor for an NPC that will do it for them.

Wait- what spell does it emulate?

I'm estimating the effect as a 1st level spell.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Deduct 10% of the value for each conversion as a processing fee. :)

Just be very very careful that in all that loot you're buldozing into the portable hole, nothing functions like a bag of holding. Hilarity will ensue.

dinging them for it isn't really an issue - they're next spending opportunity is between books 5&6 of WotR, so they're lvl 18 MT9 - they're loaded! but when we've decided for this campaign it'd be good to be able to use it for future campaigns

That's what I figured. If the PCs are using a portable hole, then they're probably high enough level where 3.6k is no big deal.

My players wanted a portable hole for YEARS and kept daydreaming things they wanted to do with it. When they finally found one, they never used it.
