Was wondering if anyone could help me out. I am planning on attending Paizocon 2017. I've already got my e-ticket badge bought my banquet ticket and reserved a room at the Double Tree.
My next order of business would be to look-up what other events I'd like to attend. One problem I can't find any info on 2017 event schedule! By digging into the 2016 it seems that the event schedule could be released anytime in February or March and that some sort of lottery is held for the more popular events.
Could someone with experience give me a breakdown of how this process usually works? Ideally I'd like to attend one or two seminars and do 3-4 society games leaving the rest up in the air until I figure out what events are actually going to happen. Obviously, this is my first time so any help would surely be appreciated.....thx in advance

Sometime soon, Paizo will ask for event submissions.
Then it will go quiet for a few weeks again as they are submitted and Paizo juggle all the events on offer into rooms and schedules.
Then around mid April or so, they will post the event schedule allowing you to select the events you are most interested in. It's a lottery basis, put a high score in events you really want, and low scores in alternate events running the same time.
Dont score any times or events for which you are taking a break or not interested.
Do leave yourself some blank spots for shopping, seeing the Paizo demo games, get killed in quick games by Owen, Guild Store Ninjas and Care Bears and the like.
Then around early May, the lottery will close and the Paizo super computer will shuffle all the wishes and allocate the lucky people their gaming seats. The results are published to each person.
Then you can book up on any events that still have open seats once that is done. You can trade events I think as well, I didn't do any trading last year.
Everything is always posted to these forums, so you will know when things are happening. There are usually Blog posts as well to draw your attention when needed.

If you want to play together in a lottery event, it's very hard. You can only have one "buddy" in the lottery to pair yourself with.
If you want to be together in a PFS game, you can all try to sign up together.
If you want to play something that's not on the schedule at all, just kinda go for it. Plan your timing ahead of time, but you'll be able to find space once you get there.

This makes it sound as if PFS games are not lottery events. Is that true?

I do apologize for the delay and causing people jitters.
We had a major issue that affected all of our volunteers, not just the conventions but the venture officers as well. That issue has been dealt with and I'm spending all this week getting notices out to PaizoCon & Gen Con vols about their info, then tackling the backlog of VO appointments. I've got a projected deadline of Friday, though it depends on how fast things pull together.
The issue that arose has been resolved so that it doesn't cause problems in 2018 and beyond.
Again, thank you for your patience!!

normally I'd agree with you, however this is the latest, by a pretty big margin, that the event schedule and lottery has been posted. Typically the Lottery has been resolved prior to May starting. We are now almost at the end of the 1st week of May, which leaves them just 3 weeks to do the lottery (which likely won't start until Monday based on the last post) and give people plenty of time to adjust their schedules based on if they won any lottery events.
This is really cutting it close to the wire here this year.

so a whole 2 days to first know about lottery, then figure out schedule, and get online and select... not a lot of time for someone who may not be available for that day to drop everything and sign up...
Given this is my first Con, and since I signed up, i have not gotten a single email from Paizo about the Con to tell me anything (other than a confirmation of payment), how will I know when and where? apparently from this forum the link was going up this morning, but i can't find it.
for past attendees this might not be a big issue, but for us new folks it seems rather hurried and lacking in communication.

callmedoug, if you're getting two days from my post, then I apologize for not being clearer. The lottery opened over a week prior to that, but the deadline for selections was May 9th. I am sure there will be an email once the schedule and lottery are live, and I'm sure we'll get a few days (I would imagine at least through the weekend) to make our choices.

Ahhh thanks for clarification, I did get the impression that it opened on May 9, and closed on May 11. both my son and I check the site everyday hoping to find some indication that it is opened, but no news breeds anxiety...
