Anyone else interested in the Nintendo Switch?

Liberty's Edge

I like what I see alot from this. I pre ordered one. Looking forward to it.

I'm planning to get one. I was iffy on the system at first, but I have been impressed by what I have been hearing about how the controllers work. This sort of "play the game how you want" thing could work out pretty well.

I'll eventually get it for Zelda. Generally I wait about a year on any new console, just to make sure that there are multiple games I actually want for it.

I have a personal rule against buying a console unless I know for sure it will have at least five games that I truly want (which the PS4 is doing just in the first quarter of this year). At the moment, I'm waiting to see what the Switch can offer that I'm not already getting elsewhere. I mean, Disgaea 5 is fun, but I already have (and beat) that. Skyrim is a great game, but not exactly new. They need good exclusives - and more of them - before I'll be truly interested in the Switch.

I just buy nintendo consoles because most of PS/XBOX library is on PC anyway <_< Nintendo tends to make really polished games and they don't seem like they are giving up on exclusivity any time soon

Scarab Sages

If I get one, it won't be until next Christmas, as a gift for my kids. In the meantime, I'll keep an eye on the reviews once it's actually out there being played, see how it holds up.

I'm definitely getting one; I need to head in to one of the local stores and put a pre-order down.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Also! ...Given the sheer amount of moving and connecting bits, I'm curious about whether or not it's made of Nintendium like the Gamecube was, or if it'll be a little more prone to breaking.

Liberty's Edge

Personally, I won't be getting one. But I have to pay kudos to Nintendo for continually spotting a niche in the market and innovating instead of just trying to one-up Sony and Microsoft with a gutsier machine.

It's very much a wait and see. This is true of pretty much all consoles now, but particularly Nintendo ones (since no matter what they say now, you're going to need to own something else to play whatever 3rd party games catch your fancy.)

In particular "how well the thing actually works in practice in terms of portability and switching its modularity" is something I'd prefer other people figure and then tell me. Console manufactures always overpromise in the lead up to release, after all.

Liberty's Edge

One week to go can't wait.

Is there a list of games that are going to be available on it yet?

I'm fairly interested in the Switch, I may end up picking one up nearer to October/November time.
Depends if I move house though as I need more space for my entertainment station to accommodate another console.

Eurogamer did a fairly good list of launch titles and post-launch titles that have been announced:

Wow! Great link. Tons of info and I love that it talks about the speed of the processor both in docked and undocked mode. Really gives some good insight into the system. My son (12) has been drooling over me playing Skyrim on the Xbone and his sister (14) playing the same on the 360, so seeing Skyrim coming to this is a definite bonus to him. He will be looking forward to having a system that will play Splatoon and Skyrim, along with all the Nintendo regulars.

Thanks

Well, I've got my system on order, and it should be here in "up to" a month. In the meantime, the games that were part of the bundle have arrived, so at least I can admire the pretty boxes.
