DM needs help from other Creative DM's

I am running Curse of the Crimson Throne Anniversary edition and I have a player that plays a Cleric and he has confided in me that he would like to play with a Griffon as a companion that is fighting trained. Now after reading the Griffon entry in the bestiary i know it takes six weeks to get a Griffon Trained. and I have noticed that so far Crimson Thrones is very time sensitive. Now they are investigating the Blood Veil. Now my idea is for him to find one in his travels perhaps trapped in a dungeon or perhaps its previous rider died in the plague and it wants revenge. Unfortunately I have never run Crimson Throne all the way through so i dont know where i would stick the Griffon to be found. Please all help is appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. Perhaps in the were rat sewer in the cage instead of the otugh? Thanks for the help again.

This thread really should be in the CotCT AP forum and you should use spoilers and/or indicate in the thread's title that it has spoilers ;-)

How will the Cleric get the Griffon mechanically speaking ? Leadership feat ? As an Animal Companion ? What level is the Cleric ?

I posted on these boards a homebrewed statblock and advancement as an Animal Companion for a Griffon some time ago, based on those of the Lion and the Eagle

Note that a Griffon has Int 6 and does not require Handle Animal nor any specific training to follow commands or to fight enemies on its own

Sorry but i don't know how to find the forums for each adventure path. And how do you make it so that a spoiler button shows? I was thinking of something like through speak with animal (Tweak it to work for magical beasts) that the cleric and the griffon would come to an agreement. The cleric is lvl 6 almost to 7.

Click the button "Show" next to "How to format your text" below the text box for entering your post. It will give Spartan but complete instructions for doing so, including Spoilers.

As for finding the forums specific to each Adventure Path, it isn't the easiest, but way down in the left sidebar, under the Community section, click on Messageboards, then on this page scroll down to the AP you want and click on it; on the page you get from this, search to see if it already has a thread about what you want (and if not, create a new one).

Check the Griffon entry in the PRD. It is full of useful info, including the fact that a Griffon can understand Common ;-)

There is also the Leadership feat and rules for having a monstrous Cohort. He would benefit from that method most since the griffon will be able to advance in heroic classes as determined by his leadership score. A Griffon with levels in Paladin or Fighter would be pretty awesome.

The Lord of Madness book recommends giving slaves (such as a griffin mount) a value of roughly (100 gp)x(CR)^2. So giving a griffin should probably reduce treasure elsewhere by ~1,600 gp.

I haven't done Curse of the Crimson Throne so I can't say what a good way to give the griffan would be.

My archer Ranger in RotRL had a Griffon Animal Companion. I mostly kept it out of close fights but Pounce, Rake and Ranger's Favored Enemy bonuses is pretty sick
