1) I seem to recall a tease about radically changing how AC works (or basic combat math in general in some way). Anyone willing to get into the specifics on that?

2) There's a really noticeable difference in general artistic sensibilities in what's been revealed so far and typical Pathfinder art. Is the generally less rough and angular look to things just happenstance of trying out different artists, or the result of trying to give the whole game a different vibe?

3) With Pathfinder/Golarion, a lot of staff writers have staked their claim to a degree on particular regions and cultures at this point. Have people started calling dibs on aspects of Starfinder yet? Alternatively, what's everyone really excited to tackle in the short term?

When do you expect to announce the details of the Starfinder AP?

  • How far along in the development process are you?
  • What are the main 'big things' which need to be finalised?
  • When does the core rulebook go to the printer?

  • Is the AP being written concurrently as the rules are developed?
  • Are you willing to reveal any authors of the first AP?

1. How soon after the launch can we expect HeroLab support? Will you be providing them with an advance copy of the rules?
2. Any information on the flavor/plot of the first AP?
3. What kind of interest/products are you seeing from 3PP? Can you give us any names?
4. Will there be a line of Starfinder Tales (novels)?
5. When will we be able to preorder? (TAKE MY MONEY!!!)

Will you be answering any of the questions that are still unanswered from the Ask Gallant James S., Enduring Owen and Beloved Rob your Starfinder Questions Here! thread?

Also, is the Starfinder Development Team aware of how hard / not cheap it is to acquire non-intelectual property / generic starship miniatures & pawns for homebrew science fiction* campaigns? Especially important since starships and hex maps are confirmed for this new game.

* = Regardless of rule system, like Alternity, D20 Future, D6 Space, GURPS Space, Stars Without Numbers...

Will there be charter subscribers.

I've got a couple that's been at the forefront of my gaming groups conversations lately.

Has anything been changed to make higher level play (12+) be less of a game of "Rocket Tag" ?

How balanced are the classes to one another through the full range of levels, or has there been an effort made to avoid the old "Linear Warriors, Quadratic Wizards" trope?

Any ideas on how to combat spell bloat and feat bloat in Starfinder while still aiming for the rich character options that Pathfinder is known for?

Can you explain the basic economy of Starfinder?
Do many planets have a unified currency like credits or some such, or do most planets have their own currency? I have to imagine that Absolom Station has a unified currency, but what about the nearby planets? Further out planets?
Heck, does currency as we think of it even exist? Might be that there are no true inter-planetary currencies, but some goods are universally valuable and traded between races as currency?

Very excited!

Will there be ships with cloaking ability? If so will there be various levels of cloak and cloak detection for ships?

For example, ship A is a low level transport just trying to get from one world to the next. Ship B is full of space pirates and has a low level cloak that is able to fool ship A's low-tech space radar. They can stay hidden as long as they're out of visual range. Hunting these criminals is megacorp ship C, and their sensors are not fooled by ship B's low-tech cloak. They're right on top of the pirates thanks to their magically enhanced invisibility cloak, and are about to activate the tractor beam. Amused by all of this as she passes by is space monk Fofo, a tiny being from a race of sentient creatures that live in the vacuum of space. She's too small to be spotted by any of ship C's sensors, but she sees them just fine thanks to her super space eyes of true seeing.

♦ Will this be a completely stand-alone version or should players expect to be also use Current Version content (I'm hoping for a fresh start with the former)?

♦ With Paizo continue to produce Adventure Paths for current Version Pathfinder as well as Starfinder?

♦ Will StarFinder modules and Adventure Paths include digital content (maps, tokens, etc) to make Virtual TableTops easier to use? This is a major challenge with existing content, currently.

♦ Will Hacking, communications, decryption, ECM, and similar "modern warfare" concepts be implemented?

♦ How is ranged combat, physical defenses (AC/DR/CMD/etc) and intrinic defenses (reflex/fortitude/will) be handled? Current Pathfinder Ranged Combat requires a deep feat investment and build focus to even be effective; how will that change in Starfinder?

♦ In space and modern/future combat, distances are huge. How are distances handled on battlemaps when effective infantry combat can happen inside 650', and there's effectively no range limit to space projectiles.

♦ On a design level, how much focus is being spent towards "reality" as far as rules that reflect how things actually function in space and zero-G? Are we looking to approximate reality where possible, or going full-on fantasy starjammer?

♦ Are there any plans for current or future content to integrate with Virtual Table Top platforms like Roll20.net and FantasyGrounds? WoTC 5e has done hugely well with the Roll20 pre-packaged marketplace adventures; is Paizo investigating similar options? (please please pretty please?)

-How upgradable will technology be other magic? Improved scopes, improved triggers, better batteries or weapon stocks?

-How are you guys planning on dealing with distance in space? Miles, AU (astronomical units) or light minutes?

-Other than increased damage how are guns going to be made so they outshine melee weapons?

-With future armor being available will guns still ignore armor bonus?

Question - How will temporal mechanics (the function of time) be addressed in Starfinder?

We live in a universe where space and time are one in the same. Thanks, Einstein. Pathfinder did a fantastic job in addressing realism in a fantasy setting so how about Starfinder with spacetime?

I want to play Outlaw Star or Cowboy Bebop in Starfinder. How well can I do that?

What lessons have you learned from working on the Pathfinder RPG that influenced what you are doing in Starfinder?

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

What are your biggest hopes and fears for/about Starfinder?

Will Aballonians feature prominently or at all?

Will there be playable AI or at least player purchasable?

How, if at all, will technology enhance the art of golemcraft or will the two be largely incompatible?

Are spells/items like Gate and Greater Teleport being done away with or limited to keep space travel
relevant to the gameworld (s)?

Grand Lodge

Are starships set pieces or are they 'characters' in their own right? Regardless, how frequently could someone expect ship-to-ship combat or will all 'ship' combat be handled as boarding actions?

Will there be 'customization' of such starships, and if so how complex and in-depth will that system be?

How is the ranged/melee combat balance being handled? It is very frequent that systems that have both options lean towards one or the other, to take an example, Star Wars is heavily tilted towards ranged combat, with only specialist melee characters being able to compete with ranged attackers. Star Trek takes this even further, where even characters capable of melee usually use ranged attacks.

How will the "special power", IE magic, be handled, particularly in what those abilities can do, what their progression rate is, and how they will balance with or against characters who do not have access to those abilities? (Example, as it stands most Pathfinder spell casters start out slow, with many 'handicaps', but within a few levels have completely caught up and rendered the non-caster class almost completely obsolete.)

How will skills be handled? Using Pathfinder for an example, as levels increase a maxed out skill essentially becomes a super-power against someone who does not have a maxed out version of the counter-skill. Characters are advised to put as many point as possible in skills they intend to use, as many DC's make anything but maxed-out skills nonviable.

Are characters built around the concept of character wealth? Again using Pathfinder as an example, the damage/ability curve expects characters to have a certain level of magic items to keep up with their expected opponents. Will that wealth level exist in Starfinder, and if so what options will characters have for improvement? (Magic, better equipment, cybernetics, etc.)

What can you tell us about travel and communication through the universe?

More specifically:

- Will long-range communications between worlds be common and readily accessible, or more limited?

- I understand Starfinder will involve faster-than-light travel, but from a practical standpoint, will travel time between worlds/stations be comparable to travel time in Pathfinder?

- Given the intended emphasis on exploration, is space travel intended to be dangerous or routine (not only in terms fo random/planned encounters, but also ship maintenance, piloting and navigation)?

What's a rough estimate on the number of new races currently designed for Starfinder that do not already exist in Pathfinder? What is one of your favorite(s) and why?

Is the new warp psychic discipline a 'bridge' to what we can expect in starfinder? In the same way is it a hint towards the future of Golarion?

Space-ask your space-GM.

YOU are my space GM!

Also, what are your thoughts on a Hammer of Quantum Torpedoes?

1.) It was mentioned in the recent GI interview that the inclusion of the Ysoki as a core race was a somewhat contentious issue within the development team. What are or were some other issues of contention during development and how were they ultimately resolved?

2.) What are some of your favorite experiences during playtesting so far? What about the Starfinder system made them stand out?

3.) What is one thing you wish could have been put into the game but had to be cut due to time, complexity, or other such issues?

4.) Tell us about the first character you want to play once the game is released.

5.) Do you plan on providing support for supplements containing information on extrasolar destinations?

Will it be possible to enchant starships and/or the components of starships?

1. Will there be FTL drives? If so hyperdrive or warp drive?

2. Are the planes from Pathfinder going to remain as planes or renamed as dimensions?

3. What are some of the wildlife we will encounter amongst the stars?

4. Will there be blaster tech level weaponry, slug thrower, or both?

5. Any natural hazards like black holes, quasars, and others?

Also a request, would you be able to record the stream for those of us unable to watch it due to work or other conflicts? Thanks.

I second this!

What features from the Unchained rules do you plan on making standard, if any? Stamina rules, for example.

Will Starfinder still have a place for archaic ranged weapons such as slings, bows, and crossbows in a modern environment? That is to say, not in the specific context of traveling to a planet of primitive peoples where such weapons are state of the art.

Will there be 'classical alchemy' in Starfinder as a pseudoscience, pseudomagical craft? Or will it be considered as merely a precursor to modern chemistry?

Will artificial gravity plating exist? How about antigravity/levitation tech? Tractor beams? Hull cutting beams using alternating gravitons and levatons? Graviton implosion weapons/short-lived spontaneous Spheres of Annihilation? Rip bombs/omnidirectional Reverse Gravity explosions?

What is Golarion's sun called?

Since there is Starfinder now, does that mean we will never see a hardcover Distant Worlds hardcover book or at least continuing info about the planets in Pathfinder's time line?

There are some answers to these in the round-up post from September.

For these two questions:

In the "What We've Revealed So Far" post, James L. Sutter wrote:
  • It's a science-fantasy RPG based on the Pathfinder universe and rules, but complete and standalone.
  • It's "conceptually compatible" with Pathfinder, with the specific idea that you should be able to use Pathfinder monsters in Starfinder with a minimum of conversion fuss at the table.
  • While there will be occasional rules supplements like bestiaries, the Starfinder Adventure Path will be a primary vector for new rules and setting information. Overall, we expect to release products for Starfinder at a much slower rate than we do for Pathfinder, making it easier and more affordable to stay up to date on both games.
  • Starfinder Adventure Path and the Starfinder RPG rulebook line will not be replacing Pathfinder—it's a whole separate game, and thus not expected to impact the production of our normal Pathfinder material after the initial release.

PaladinDemo wrote:

There's a hyperspace-style dimension called the Drift (link includes more links to sources) that serves as the FTL vector. Ships jump into it using special divine tech, then can theoretically pop out at any point in the galaxy.

Some Drift details from interviews:
The jumps damage other planes (which might answer your second question--they've been referred to as planes so far) by ripping chunks from them and adding them to the Drift. The longer the jump, the more planar material is transferred (including creatures, many of whom are understandably rather upset by the process).

Nobody has mentioned other forms of FTL so far, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

Pathfinder AP and module spoilers:
We already know about of a couple forms of FTL in Pathfinder lore, including the Divinity Drive's wormhole abilities in Iron Gods, and whatever the Dominion of the Black has up its sleeve. The magical drive on the Lirgen's Glory from Doom Comes to Dustpawn might've been capable of eventually hitting or exceeding light speed, but that's not made explicit.

So I expect something else will come up eventually. At least initially, though, it's the Drift that opens the galaxy up to Absalom Station and the solar system.

I don't know about anyone else but I pretend it's named Gol and is the primary of the "Golarian system" [sic]

Your current yes/no estimate on the possibility of Starfinder Organized Play?

Oh yeah. I guess then if I think about it I would have to say NO!

They have already confirmed that they shall be using American Customary Measurements, not metric.

ya ken, I participated in that thread...

This was meant to be a goofy sort of poke at all the traveler fans (which includes myself of course)

Any cameos from the Iron Gods AP? I'm very curious to know what's happened to Casandalee, Androffa and the Kasatha's homeworld!

Can you share what kind of non-ship based professions that will be available to players?

How do ships and ship combat scale? Will a ragtag freighter with level twenty characters have to run from a dreadnought crewed by a thousand level one NPCs or will the high level characters rule the day despite the vast difference in ship class?

I am the Dream Crusher. No Hammer of Quantum Torpedoes. You can have a hammer of brilliant energy.

What will the prevailing currency system look like? Will there be multiple forms? For example gold pieces, ingots of adamantium, bitcoin? Maybe trade credits representing a proportionate basket of currencies from all the major powers?

What about some commodities as de facto currencies? Oxygen, water, refined deuterium, spell-quality diamonds, clear & iridescent spindle ioun stones, botnet cycles, etc?

Please describe some of the nation-states we might see in the setting?

Will there be tables to randomly generate loot?

Will mundane trade goods include modern art masterpieces and gem encrusted uPad cases?

What will be the average cost of a young adult female half-orc house slave?

In Pathfinder, Paizo has released a lot of different organization stuff, Fame systems, etc. Can we expect things that are similar to material in Ultimate Campaign, Ultimate Intrigue, Inner Sea Magic, etc in the Core book or future books?

I really like earning fame/infamy and pulling in favors, joining an organization, etc.

Will starships have the ability to scan for lifeforms?

Will starships have the option to launch probes?

Will there be weapon scaling, such as fighter class weapons, capital ship class weapons?

How exactly does The Gap work? does it block out all memory beyond X years ago? or is more "we remember everything except what what happened between year X and year Z"

How dependent are characters on their gear? are the Big Six still necessary?

what classes would I use to build a Psychic-Space Ninja in Starfinder?

How customization are ships?

Can I be the Captain and Pilot of my party's ship?

Are the classes more customizable than Pathfinder? meaning do most or all of the classes have a Talent list?

How expensive is Cybertech?

what is the unit of currency and how does it work?

exactly how compatible is Starfinder with Pathfinder? what are some of the biggest differences?

how different is Starfinder's combat from Pathfinder's?

thanks

About how many creatures will be in the Alien Anthology?

What will the highest CR in the book be?

Are we keeping the old creature types, and are we adding any new ones?

About how many pages will be in the Core Rulebook?

Will necessities like breathable atmosphere and drinking water be renewable on starships as standard or will it be some variety of upgrade?

If they're not renewable as standard, will it be possible to restock them from planets with breathable atmosphere and drinking water or will you only be able to buy more breathing air and drinking water from stations or outposts?

Or will the ability to restock from sources other than stations/outposts be another feature/upgrade/ability the starship has to have equipped/selected?

Is the stream still set for tomorrow? Haven't heard much. Also please answer this question on stream because that would make sense.
