Intro PFS Quests - Honor's Echo

4/5

Just ran Honor's Echo about a week ago, while it has a little of everything to help introduce new players to PFS. I did notice it was missing a chase scene.

Please, if you plan on doing something like Honor's Echo again, include a chase scene in it.

I suspect they didn't because the chase mechanics have been somewhat unpopular, and I have found them to be very hit and miss (mostly miss).

If you enjoy the concept of a chase scene, you might like Pathfinder Society Quests: The Silverhex Chronicles—namely the Colony adventure. It includes an abbreviated and modified chase scene that's more freeform so as to be easy to run in a short time. I think it turned out pretty well.

Paizo is still working out the final details for the Pathfinder Society Academy (PSA) program which is focused on new players and helping to transition those who start with the Beginner Box materials to expand into the full, Core Rulebook and ancillary rules.

The Quest series Angel's Flight is already completed and was test-run at GenCon 2016. It was specifically designed to support the PSA program. While it does not specifically contain the chase mechanics, a GM could easily describe some of the action in such a way as to simulate a chase environment if that is what excites the players.

Both the materials for the PSA program as well as Angel's Flight should be released for public consumption soon. Keep an eye out for them.

Chase scenes are great until you hit one that says you need an 18 sense motive or perception and your barbarian has a -2 score for both. Falls into the same realm as the, make a DC 25 to notice the super deadly trap and then a 25 disable to get rid of it. When the only options are to roll a 20 or fail, it isn't fun.

On an on topic note, I as well ran honors echo, and while fun it had some hiccups due to the prefers being "less than optimal." An Ac of 16-18 is by no means unbeatable, but many of theach pRegensburg only have +1 or +2 to hit. Got very close to wiping, with an experienced group multiple times. But over all it was all fun, albeit slightly frustrating.

Do you have to use a Pre-Gen character to play Honor's Echo? And if you complete all six quests does that give you 6 xp?

Yes, you must use a 1st level pregen for Honor's Echo. Completing all six quests earns 1 xp.

^ to elaborate, you currently can only use Pregens for Honor's Echo. That restriction may eventually be lifted, as it was for the other Quest series, after a new Quest series gets released.

I've been trying to search but haven't found anything, has Honor's Echo been opened up to non-pregens yet?
