I will start this with saying that I am a regular poster now but have been a watcher since Rise of the Runelords came out. Now I don't know if this is a trend, fad or the end of an era but the boards to me are no longer a fun place to visit all the time. Part of this is the disappearance of long time posters or just their self imposed exiles but the boards have become a less fun place. I haven't seen Set, Dabble, Ryjin, Spalding, Purple Furry Cat Gnome, Ashiel and DTBone but the boards are both more quiet, empty and less enjoyable than before. Some of this is possibly due to life, bans or just time but I also notice Jiggy less and TOZ isn't everywhere. Its also annoying with some posters attempts at levity Captain Yesterday and his infinite aliases for example and the more not really hostile but abruptness of the boards. I am well aware that this is my opinion but the Messageboards no longer feel like they did, whether this change is good or bad I cant tell. My honest opinion is that the fun and enjoyment of the boards has gone I'm just hoping that its a short lived thing but I honestly cant tell.

Sorry about the rant but this has been bothering me for a while now, hopefully thing change. Anyway thanks for your time.

Arran Out.

Things have changed. That's what things do. That doesn't mean they're worse.

The good old days. Old friends. Lost loves. Memories.

Sure, people have gone, but new people have arrived. Nostalgia is a powerful force and it colours an experience. You can't go back. You shouldn't try.

I know things change but the boards just aren't really fun anymore mayhaps its just that every new argument is a rehash of an old one could be it.

Set is still posting. I think Jiggy is busy with 3PP work (or I'm misremembering again).

Yeah, I hate it when Captain Yesterday makes attempts at levity. Remember when these messageboards were a serious place? What happened to the quiet, solemn dignity of the Angry Jack Cult and Poodle Lords?

Things have changed, but that's just what happens when a community grows in size. In many ways, I think they've changed for the better—for instance, a certain brand of humor that pretty much only appealed to a single narrow demographic of Paizonian has gone from the dominant form of comedy to pretty much a wisp. The forums are a more inclusive place.

As for arguments repeating over and over again, I do agree—I'm really tired of the RAW Is Law crowd, for instance. But that's not new. It's been going on since the beginning. The only change is that it's repeated long enough for us "veterans" to get sick of it.

Also, "TOZ isn't everywhere" isn't a complaint. It's a sign that the Resistance is still out there, fighting for our freedom.

I do miss Gary Teter, Erik Mona and the rest posting more frequently, though. :(

The fact that some long-term posters have been banned in the last year or so, because they stirred up drama or were simply caustic, is probably a good thing for the overall calmness of the forums.

I'll agree that the endless, repetative arguements are a real bore, but I attribute that more to the fact that I've been here a long time and it seems to go in cycles.

But I'm here now and I'm hilarious.

Also, I do concur that it gets tiresome when stuff gets repeated again and again, but I think that's most just because you notice it more easily when you've been around for a while.

Oh, and not to beat the "KC multiposts a lot" joke into the ground, but I may as well point out the obvious and say that it's not cool to negatively call out specific posters like you did in this post.

Its not that I don't like Captain Yesterday I mean when he actually engages in thoughtful conversation he provides valid and fun points. The other times however.

Not cool to call out individual posters. Pairing it with a compliment doesn't change what you're doing.

I'm still around but definitely much more sparse than I used to be. For the most part I gave up on Rules/Advise forums a few years ago. If I see an in interesting question about a core mechanic I still like to pop my head in.

Mostly I've been hanging out in the OT, but with political threads on hiatus (permanently?) I've spent even less than my usual time.

I agree the boards aren't as fun (for me) as they used to be. I think that mostly has to do with the growth of the user base. This used to be a much smaller place, it was a lot easier to bump into familiar posters and people were (somewhat) willing to engage in honest discussion.

Now the boards are more representative of the internet en masse, which is great for paizo probably. Legacy users on most sites feel this way after a popularity boom.

Anyhow, I'm still here, just lurking more than posting. :D

I don't really post as much these days. Forums just seem not so great anymore. So I just stick to Starfinder and maybe gamer life, as well as my google+ crowd.

I am pretty sure it's mostly about you missing old buddys. You wouldn't be the first one, I encounter such threads for years now. So what about making new contacts? I mean, you spent time and effort to get known to the people you listed, why not do the same again?

Rehashed topics are pretty much inevitable in a forum, and as I read old threads, they also happened years ago. Actually the 'martial / caster disparity' topic became less prominent lately - which I consider a major plus.

Speaking of inevitable in a forum, annoying people also fit into this category. Are you sure nobody annoyed you years ago?

When I do it, on the other hand, people react with great emotion. And parades. That they are carrying pitchforks and torches is irrelevant.
