That will make a solid Eldritch Archer Magus. Now to add some meat and brains to those bones.

OK, here is my official submission, ready for your review.

I'm very eager to campaign with you, and like the whole concept of the 10-minute background. I'll likely steal the idea for my next DMing foray - thanks for that at least!

I'd love some feedback on my backgrounds. PM me if it's easier. Also, please let me know if you need me to change anything about the build - I'm more drawn to a personality than a build. Happy to change whatever you want to fit the feel of the campaign.

Interested. I'll have my character and backstory completed soon.

Rast (Rastilian) Cobble

Half-Orc Cleric of Desna from Trunau

The Story So Far:

Born outside Trunau, the result of brutality, Rast started out life hard. Living on the streets, first being bullied and then finding a group of kids became something of a bully himself. Still he survived, if not flourished, to a point where fait intervened.

Twelve years old but strong Rast decided the best way to get some cash would be to rough up and rob someone traveling to town. Donning a hood he waited until a likely target was seen heading to town. An older man, in simple traveling gear, riding an ass. Rast emerged from the bushed in front of the man, brandishing large club, and demanded the mans money. The traveler was nonplused, raised his hands and responded to Rast.

“Be at piece brother I am a fellow traveler on the path of life. I will gladly share with you but instead of being a simple criminal how about you walk with me and protect me from others. I am heading too Trunau and know that some less fortunate sometimes pray on travelers.”

Confused Rast agreed to what he knew was a simple two mile walk and followed in beside him. He learned the old man, Gil, was a priest on his way to Trunau to visit a distant relative. Gil explained some about his god Desna and when Rast attention wandered he preyed that the youths blistered feet would be healed. Seeing the power Rast gave the man much more attention.

Reaching the town Gil proffered a bag he said contained 5 gold pieces but he made another offer, travel with him for the next 10 months. He was on a journey that would lead him to a different town, Sandpoint, for a festival to Desna. At the end of the journey he would pay the young man a princely 150 gold for having acted as guard and companion. The thought of the gold and a new start was enticing and Rast agreeded.

They traveled as friends for a while and slowly Rast became a student to Gil and a follower of his god Desna. By the time they arrived at Sandpoint Gil declared that his days of wandering were done and he was going to stay in town. He also informed Rast that the money he received was a gift from Desna and he should use it to equip himself and become a light of Desna for travelers in need.

Sovereign Court

Here is my submission with completed character and 10 minute Background.

Dark Archive

Changed my mind, I will be doing a hobgoblin brawler.

Will have crunch up soon.

10min background and other:

Step 1
1- Kain was a member of a frontier town in the wildlands

2- He was just accepted into an elite unit of Calvary whose job was to run down any orc raiding parties, and rapid maneuvering to keep giants from being able to stone the town.

3- Kain is rough and practical but Kind-hearted to many.

4-One day, not long after he was accepted into the Calvary unit a small raiding party was sighted and drew him, 2 other members, and a senior member off from the main town. They easily rode down the 10 or so orcs on a nearby hill. It was then they saw boulders raining down on the area of the town. They rode fast and hard, but by the time they got to the town half of it was flattened. Kain was 18 at the time

5-Kain is the son of Rydell and Anna,

6-Views on life- Life is precious, spend it well and do not waste it, any life is worth protecting. Hard work, will, and dedication can overcome anything. Glory is for fools, the only true glorious death is a death in which you defend something you love. If something is a threat to his loved ones/friends he won’t hesitate to kill them, if he is labeled bloodthirsty for protecting those he loves he will happily accept their scorn over mourning their death.

7- He doesn’t give himself the title of hero, no matter what he does, he merely would respond with “just doing what I can”

8- Holds an underlying hate for giants, he rarely loses his temper, but when he does it is usually around giants as it brings up painful memories of his home town.

9- Kain is 6’2”, 225lbs, Black hair, Green eyes, with handsome features. He usually keeps a rough 8 O’clock shadow, his hair is long.

10- He has recently taken to working as a mercenary, be it a caravan guard, solider for hire, or even a bounty hunter. He has heard of dire straits in Trunau and comes to offer his services.

11- Knows when to keep his mouth shut, disciplined from training.

12- While he may not be open about it, he forms bonds of friendship quickly with those he deems worthy and just, and would sacrifice himself for those friends, even if he never says so openly.

13- Kain had a brother and a sister, their bodies were never found at the site of the town’s destruction he keeps eyes and ears out for rumors for them, but holds little hope knowing they were most likely taken captive.

Step 2- Goals
1- He seeks to put an end to the chapter of his family and find out what happened to his younger siblings, saving them if need be no matter the cost.

2- Seeks only to make a living protecting people he deems worth of protecting.

3- He has always loved riding, the wind in his hair, one of his dreams is to ride on the back of a Pegasus, not as a mere mount, but as a friend and ally.

4- He wants to find the creature that lead the assault on his town, and slay him once and for all.

Step 3- Secrets
1- He doesn’t know his siblings are alive, however, where they are is something even the gods save the big one can’t say ;)

Step 4
- Kain’s brother, 3 years his younger was physically weak. He had always wanted to be like Kain, to join the Dragoons, but his physical condition was a large hindrance, but what he lacked in physical fitness Kain’s little brother made up for in intellect, It was his brother that showed Kain a new technique for holding a spear so as to be allowed to spin and wield it as a club for enemies that get close. Kain nor his brother were able to master the style and so it was dismissed, but Kain still practices it to this day, determined to master it.

- Kain’s sister was 10 when the giants leveled the entire community she would be 13 now if she is still alive. She had always been helpless, unable to do anything for herself. Perhaps that changed now, perhaps not. It doesn’t matter, Kain would still do everything for her.

-An orc boss that lost most of his warband to a counter-assault by the few remaining dragoons. The orc boss rode a warg and faced off against Kain, Neither landed a lethal blow, but Kain managed to come out ahead, knocking the orc off his steed and down the side of a steep hill. The orc warboss, having been humiliated, and losing his warg and his warband has sense sought revenge on the mounted warrior.

- The Creature that lead the attack that destroyed the frontier town has no real interest in the rider known as Kain, but he will one day. He sees kain, and any dragoon from the town as lesser, and unworthy of his time.
- The Ranger in the wilds indeed, it was at a time when Kain was overcome with anger, hate and grief, when he was found by the ranger. It was this encounter that kept Kain from a path of self-destruction and attempted revenge.

Step 5-
- I remember running the orcs down, our senior member inspiring the rest of us as he slew 5 of the beasts, I managed to claim 2 of the rest, my first orc kills as a dragoon. We laughed and talked of our victory as we made our way back to town. That’s when we saw them. Boulders the size of trolls raining down on the town. It was continual, devastating bombardment. We watched as the Dragoons of the town, with no other options charged out of the gate. We could only sit and watch as the boulders focused onto them. There was no glorious charge, no meaning to their deaths. They simply died like animals, crushed flat under tons of rock. It was then that the orcs made their move, almost all of the defenders dead and crushed under the boulders, the walls crushed and splintered. Over 3 score of orcs poured into the town killing, raping, pillaging. We rode swift as shadows, but by the time we entered the Towns fields only one warband remained. Staying behind to try and salvage any looked over “loot”. I remember feeling the purest of rage, anguish and hatred that day. I spurred my mount onwards in blind hate and would have charged to my death, had the last senior officer of the dragoons not rallied the other 3 and charged off behind me. We broke into the score of orcs, felling several before they could strike back. In the following melee one of our own was felled. That was when I saw him, the leader of the band a horrid orc upon a dire wolf, or warg, in their tongue. Seemingly by divine purpose a path opened between me and him and I looked into his eyes. He smiled, and I hated that smile. We struck at each other several times, but in the end, using the technique my brother taught me, caught the orc off guard. Even though I had far from perfected it the strike was enough to knock him from his mount and send him rolling down the hill. His remaining orcs tried to flee, we ran them down like dogs. I remember laying to rest all the bodies we could find, ones that weren't paste. It was sickening. I also remember finding the broken and battered bodies of my parents, but never finding my siblings. Not knowing their fate haunts me more than anything still...

- Kain is often a quiet man, but when he speaks, he speaks with purpose and meaning. He often prefers to speak with his action, rather than his words and often judges’ man based on their actions alone. For good or ill.

- I remember my family, in the summer when the sun warmed the valley and the mountain I and my brother and sister would often enjoy the day in the fields, after I was old enough to ride a horse I would often take them horseback riding, letting them experience what I loved so much. How I wish for those days back…

-I remember the pride I felt at finally being accepted into the dragoons, I remember the pride of my family, and my brother when I came home, wielding the spear of the dragoons. A spear I still wield to this day, both in honor, and for its remarkable make.

-Kain has developed a habit of speaking to his horse, whether or not the horse understands, or even listens no one, not even Kain knows. But he enjoys it, and enjoys the humorous discussions he has with the longtime friend and companion who he has named Valere, (valor).

-------------------------------

- Bit of story from the day everything he knew fell to ruin.
Smoke rising from the horizon, the thrill of the kill still fresh on me I don't think clearly, I smile and carry on as our leader, Sir Baldwin, stares towards the some. A look of worry on his face. After a few minutes I too come to realize that that smoke is rising from where our town is. Suddenly, their was a deepening feeling of sickness in me. Fear rose and gnawed at the edges of my mind as we rode swiftly towards the town. We crested a hill and looked down at the most horrifying sight in my life. Our town was under siege. An endless rain of flaming boulders pelted the city, its stone walls slowly beginning to crumble. I saw a house crushed under the weight of a particularly large boulder. I felt like I wanted to vomit. we watched as the Dragoon knights of the town charged forth from the gates hoping beyond hope to reach the giants before they buried the city in stone. It was a slaughter. Their was no glorious charge, no blowing of the horn there was only death. Boulders rained from on high crushing into the knights, over 50 died in the first seconds, with that many more following soon after. Mindlessly we began to ride toward the town. Denial of the greatest kind throwing itself at my mind. This is a dream, its a dream it has to be The last thing I saw before going below the tree line was a boulder smash the main gate down, and the last of my knightly order crushed under flying rocks as scores of orcs poured into the once proud city. It was thirty minutes before we reached the fields of the town, and from there we saw an almost empty battlefield. The entire town, over 1500 people, leveled, Destroyed, ravaged. Blood ran like rivers from under rocks and stone, the scene was one of nightmares, a literal lake of blood coated the ground. Quickly, denial become despair, despair became anger, anger, to hate. We charged into the remaining orcs, about a score of them. We slaughtered them all. The others seemed defeated but not I. All I could feel was empty despair and anguish. I left my fellows, I followed the raiding parties trails for days, My faithful companion and steed, Valor, carrying me the whole way. The Blackness of despair and the Red of anger burning so bright as to drown out my reason. Eventually I caught up with them. I saw the band, over 10 giants, 4 score of orcs. I planned to take them all on. However, fate had a different course for me that day. Valor veered off against my wishes to a forest and even through my rage filled blindness I wouldn't leave him, your horse is your life, that was ingrained in my being by this point. That horse saved my life in more ways than one. Valor Eventually brought me to a strange man. Not a word he spoke, he merely beckoned me to follow. We walked many miles, and as I walked a calmness came over me. Slowly, as I watched the forest around me full of life, I began to come back to myself. Finally, upon reaching a spring of sorts I broke down into sobs. I cried for my family, I cried for my town, I cried for the wrong that had been done, I cried for me. The next few days I spent with this quiet guardian. He showed me how to better understand my friend, Valor, and our connection grew to a greater extent however it was clear I had much to learn. Eventually he directed me to the nearby town. When I entered the town, the past me was dead. Kain had died in his town, in those mountains with the rest of his family. I met with the only 3 survivors of the town, the other knights they told me that the bodies of my sister and brother had never been found, and that our house was one of the few to not have been demolished. I would not trust to hope, but I left the town both seeking my path in life, and to hopefully one day find my siblings. I became a mercenary of sorts, I only accepted jobs I deemed honorable or good, but I had no real reason for carrying them out. I was a half dead man, seeking a meaning to his life. But fate is funny, and here I am, back where I started, having heard a rumor of sorts about living humans in the wilds. Most likely it is a vain hope, but I couldn't not come. Besides, I have unfinished business in this area. One day, I will claim vengeance for the lost souls of my town, but Never again will I let myself fall into that dark abyss of despair, and never again will I let one whom I protect die should my body still work.

Small spiel from Kain in 1st person-

Kain speaks in a rather deep voice, with a slight hint of gravel to it.

Hmph, fine. If you so wish to know my story, I will tell you. I remember back when I first got accepted into the dragoons of my town. The prestigious honor of what was our elite guard. The training had been hard, long hours with spear, mounted and unmounted. Stories and legends of the dragoons of long past kept kids like me going, whether it was of slaying a dragon, or driving back a charging giant with a single charge at the cost of his life. What a naive fool I was. Glory, legend, I wanted it all back then, life was cheap to me then. I had craved for orc raids to come. Well not long after I was accepted, about a little under two years I got my wish. More than I wanted.... He grows quiet, then moves on. Anyway, an extremely organized attack against my town demolished it. Buildings, walls, everything was crushed under a rain of boulders, The only reason I am here now is because we had been out on patrol, hunting a scouting party of orcs. We ran them down. When we got back, it was all but over. I sat on a hill and watched as a rain of death leveled my entire life. Rage overtook me, fueled by grief, A lot happened then, we managed to kill some more orcs, but the pain was still their, no matter how many I killed, the hallow, empty pain burned ever brighter. Until I eventually exhausted myself. I woke several days later in the care of a ranger. He, he helped me, made sure I didn't do anything stupid. He even managed to heal Valere after I had nearly driven the best to exhaustion and death. Something I still remind myself of today.. Anyway, I become a wanderer, a mercenary in a way. I have helped a town more often than once with problems of beast, by blade, or by merely ousting a false rumor.

fluff:
1) Annika is Shundar-Quah, and her mother was herself a shaman.
2) She is unusually curious about outsiders and as a child liked to slip into towns that the to watch people.
3) She has a natural talent for languages and history.
4) Her desire to understand more about the Thassilonian ruins her people revre has led her to travel away from her clan, though she intends to return some day, hopefully with new knowledge to share.
5) She was considered a bit strange in her clan, due to her scholarly bent and interest in outsiders.

Goals
1) I think it would be interesting for her to meet some more typical scholars.
2) It would be fun for her to meet a non-hostile giant and speak with them.

Secrets
1) (Known) Annika is still a little nervous around horses stemming from a childhood accident. She really doen't want anyone to notice this.
2) (Unknown) Annika is 1/4 Varisan on her fahter's side as the result of her grandmother's unorthodox adventures.

Contacts
1) Her mother, Enna Sets Bones.
2) A young hunter from her clan named Arric Wolf Slayer, with whom she had a romantic entanglement that ended in some hard feelings.
3) Victro Lorrenza, the priest of one of the towns she snuck into as a child, who was kind to her. She stayed in that town for a few days during her adulthood travels and was given the holy symbol she carries as a gift by the priest.

Memories:
1) One of her earliest memories is of seeing a Thassilonian monument against the night sky, and the stars seeming to frame it, as if beckoning.
2) She bonded with Inke during her rite of passage into adulthood. This was one of the happiest and proudest moments of her life as it meant she could carry on in her mother's footsteps as a shaman.
3) Her final argument with Arric where he accused her of being a flighty fool unfit to be a shaman and she accused him of being cold hearted and excessively hateful towards outsiders. this was part of the reason she chose to travel, she wanted to get away from her ex for a while.

Appearance:
Annika keeps her hair cut above her ears. She has dusky skin and her eyes are brown, though her bond with her spirit makes them look darker, and with swirling patterns of starlight in them. She has a tattoo of an owl surronded by stars on the back of her right hand.

Personality:
Thoughtful and curious. Somewhat uncomfortable in larger towns due to inexperience with them, but also fascinated. Generally pretty easygoing, but has quite a bit of pride in her heritage and doesn't appreciate being dismissed as ignorant. Also sensitive about her fears and tries to avoid talking about them.

Silver Crusade

Glad to see you back GM Wasted!

Praetor here was a Paladin of the Dawnguard in one of your two previous RoTRL campaigns (with Chrona).

I would be thrilled to jump back in if you'll have me. We reached level 2 in your previous campaign, so I would have to de-level and sort out my inventory, but the base character stands.

I had an exceptional ability score roll in your previous recruitment thread (45+ point buy), and could re-roll that at your request.

I'll be rolling another class for fun, but this will be my primary submission since you're seeking a divine class.

Cheers.

Dot

hmm. I am looking over teamwork feats, mayhaps I will not use gendarme. Also, I am considering taking beast rider if selected, with basically one idea in mind.

I do admit, the teamwork feats have gotten some better picks since last I looked over them.

Praetor! Super glad you found this :) hope you're doing well! You can absolutely re-use your submission

thelizardwizard

You have to remember for beast rider on a medium character you can first pick a exotic mount at 7th level, it works better for small cavaliers :)

Medium beast riders can choose a camel or horse mount at 1st level. At 4th level, a Medium beast rider can also choose an allosaurus, ankylosaurus, arsinoitherium, aurochs, bison, brachiosaurus, elephant, glyptodon, hippopotamus, lion, mastodon, megaloceros, giant snapping turtle, tiger, triceratops, or tyrannosaurus as his mount. Additional mounts might be available with GM approval.

In addition, a 7th-level or higher Medium beast rider can select any creature whose natural size is Large or Huge, provided that creature is normally available as a Medium-sized animal companion at 7th level (like a bear). To generate statistics for such a mount, apply the following modifications:

However, I have only one reason to take the beast rider archetype, and that reason is listed in Kain's background ( I believe one of his desires)

And I am still weighing the options of gendarme feats vs tactician, both mechanically and as far as fitting the character goes, both are valid options.

here is my alias for a hobgoblin brawler, working on it right now, will have it fully up soon.

Here are my rolls! I'm planning on making a sorcerer.
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 5) + 6 = 16
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 6) + 6 = 18
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 = 12

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 6) + 6 = 16
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 5) + 6 = 17

Dang son. I thought I rolled well.

Some people have good luck with dice, other people don't. I don't.

This is my alias for King Quartz. I'm not the best at formatting my character sheet but am open to friendly tips :) I have hero lab and just copied/pasted the stat block. Now just to flesh out Thakals background.

And thanks lizardwizard, i got extremely lucky on that dice roll. It ends up being a whopping 62 point buy!

Dark Archive

As I was on the rocks before, letting some other things play out, I want to say I'm definately in as a submission now.

I'll be rolling back a level like Praetor, also debating changing her bloodline, but nothing big!

Wasted!! Fabulous to hear you are ok and back :)

I'd be interested in revisiting RotR with you if you have room. I would love to bring Lackspell back to Sandpoint, or indeed I would be happy enough to start a new char if he doesn't fit the new party makeup.

Here is my background info, cant wait for friday!

Background:

1) Thakal spent most of his youth trying to be the most powerful person in town. He would constantly spend late nights reading ancient scrolls and was always practicing his magical abilities. He has always seen himself as weak, never truly reaching his full potential.

2) Growing up in the bustling city of Ustalav was a real challenge for Thakal. He would constantly be so engrossed in his scrolls that he couldn’t be bothered to look up while he tried to weave through all the foot traffic.

3) He has no idea why he can do magic. His mother has just told him that his father left them when he found out she was pregnant.

4) The scrolls that most interested Thakal were of a darker sort and getting ahold of them was very tough. He was constantly lying about his research to those around him and became very masterful at getting what he wanted.

5) Thakal’s favorite hobby, second to reading, was to play practical jokes on the people while he practiced his magical arts. He was constantly putting to sleep people riding horses, causing them to crash off their mount, then rush over pretending to help the poor fellow. They were grateful for his help and never thought he was the cause of their sudden drowsiness.

Goals:

1) Figure out who his father is and meet him

2) Understand his magical powers and become the strongest sorcerer in all of Varisia

Secrets:

1) Thakal knows that his powers are from some evil origins and that it has something to do with his father.

2) His father has visited Thakal many times in different disguises dropping off tomes and scrolls that should be extremely hard. He is slowly grooming Thakal, fanning his lust for power and arcane mastery. One day Thakal’s father hopes to use him as a weapon to destroy his demon rivals.

Relationships:

1) Piper: Thakals mother. She has always been a steady figure to Thakal as a child. She has encouraged him to push himself harder with his studies. She is the only person who truly knows what Thakal reads and has a weird knack for finding ancient tomes on black magic in the library.

2) Oudpet Erndo: His best, and only, friend. Thakal and Oudpet always caused mayhem with their magical skills. Oudpet would often charm a lone beggar late at night and convince the poor beggar that the house right around the corner had offered him a bed for the night. The beggar would then cause a racket on that houses door asking to be let in and aggravating the homeowner. All the while Thakal and Oudpet would laugh while hiding away and watching the mayhem.

3) Iongac Noth: The captain of the guard in Ustalav. He always hated Thakal and knew that he must be up to something evil. He would constantly catch Thakal sneaking around at night and reading very ancient, and sometimes bloody, tomes. Iongac would always try to convict Thakal of a crime but was never successful. He will try anything within his powers to get this scum taken care of.

Memories:

1) Do you here that Oudpet? Sounds like another carriage coming through! Thakal whispered to Oudpet while both crouched in their favorite hiding spot right off of the main road. It was close to midnight and there wasn’t usually much traffic, if any, during these late hours. A horse drawn carriage slowly rounded the corner. Wait for it. Just a bit more. NOW! Thakal murmurs some words and the driver crashes to the ground. Thakal bursts from the brush and says to the man ” Are you alright sir? I heard quiet the commotion, did you fall off your horse?” The man slowly gets up, visibly disorientated, begins to blush and stammers Errr yes, I musta dozed off for a bit there. Thanks for checking on me but I’ll just be on my way. He quickly hops back on his carriage and rides away. Thakal hears barely contained laughter coming from Oudpets direction.

2) Thakal’s eyes started to blur. What time is it? It must be almost morning already. He lets out a big yawn. Just one more scroll, then I’ll get some sleep. He reaches over and grabs a new scroll. He looked down at it and couldn’t understand a single thing. It was filled with symbols and weird shapes. Suddenly, Thakal felt a wave of warmth roll up his body and then stopping at his head. He looked back down at the scroll and now it was filled with words, the symbols had disappeared. Thakal smiled to himself and eagerly started reading.

3) And what do we have here? A scroll on dark magical arts? A short bulky fellow said sarcastically while ripping away the scroll from Thakals hands. Thakal let out a sigh The closest he’s gotten so far and responded Close Iongac, it’s a scroll discussing the origins of our town. It’s actually quiet fascinating. I can arrange with the librarian to lend it out to you once I’m finished reading it. Iongac looked down at the scroll and scrunched up his nose and squinted at the paper. Holding it this way and that until finally grunting up at Thakal Why can’t I read it? It looks like complete gibberish to me Thakal looked down at the short dwarf and said That’s because some of us enjoy learning new things, like languages for an example and snatched his scroll back. Thakal turned his back on the suspicious dwarf and felt a roll of energy fill his body. The words on the scroll swam and finally formed coherent words “101 Ways To Destroy a Soul”

Rolling: 1d6 + 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + (3) + 6 = 10
Because: 1d6 + 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + (6) + 6 = 18
I: 1d6 + 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + (5) + 6 = 15
Enjoy: 1d6 + 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + (3) + 6 = 12
Rolling: 1d6 + 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + (6) + 6 = 15
Dice!: 1d6 + 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + (1) + 6 = 10

Well, I have seen worse stat lines (it beats a 20 point buy, and combined with most racials adjustments would be pretty solid) so I might cobble something together. In interest of fairness, I have another submission in for a melee replacement (link here) and if I get picked for it I will drop here. Can't speak to the chances of that, there is only one spot open and a lot of good submissions (including another dwarf pally) ... but felt I should say that up front.

Hm... perhaps an aasimar inquisitor in service to Iomedae. Should have a rough concept soonish.

I'm thinking of a human or aasimar spirit guide oracle. Are aasimar alternative heritages available?

Silver Crusade

@GM Wasted: I made a few changes to Praetor. Added a drawback (burned), an additional trait (resilient), added background skills, and changed my background slightly to better fit my late arrival to the new campaign.

@Lazulin: Holy rolls, buy a lottery ticket!

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 4) + 6 = 14

... Okay, now I GOTTA apply! :D

Dang I was *this* close to just being able to edit it in. I blame having to take time to do the 10 minute background! :D (anyone actually ever DO those in 10 minutes? Takes me way longer)

I present to you Gabriel Gearwinder, a gnomish unchained summoner.

Also, another question. Is Leadership going to be allowed?

Valjoen_KC wrote:

Nevermind, I've decided to go with a human spirit guide oracle with the Lore mystery and the Haunted curse. She's going to focus on summoning.

Thematically, she's going to have come from a wealth family that perished a fire with the exception of her, of course. It is her family that she guides as spirits. She's also a bit crazy from the experience and believes the monsters she summons are reincarnations of her extended family; aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, etc. I'd like to give her a valet/butler, hence the leadership question. However, I don't want him to do anything other carry her belongings or occasionally hand her something. So, Leadership really isn't what I'm looking for. Is it possible to re-skin a hireling or even slave?

I've worked up the basic crunch with the 20-pt buy, but I'll go ahead and give the rolling a shot to see if I can't get something better.

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 5) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 4) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 6) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 6 = 17
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 4) + 6 = 16
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 3) + 6 = 11

Nice! I'll finish the crunch and workup the fluff for submission tomorrow.

I'm interested so I'll roll.

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 3) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 4) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 4) + 6 = 11

Grand Lodge

Step 1:
: write five things about your character’s concept and background, five things that you think are the most essential parts of your character. You don’t have to stop at five, if you like…this is just a minimum.

Seeking some Atonement for his actions when he was younger
Trying to understand why the madness that is in him manifests itself the way it does.
His family lives just outside of Sandpoint
Just wants to help people of Sandpoint
Likes to play with flowers and see how they can help out

Step 2:
: List two goals for the character that you, as a player, think would be cool to see accomplished in-game. During any session in which you take positive action to achieve that goal, I will award you an action point that can only be used in scenes furthering that goal. These Action Points are separate from the action points you gain by resting and reaching milestones. You can change goals later, though you lose all the accumulated Action Points for the goal you abandoned.

Othar has to clear his name, he has to do right by his family who has been shamed because he took part in a raid on his town and a few guards were killed or worse because of him
Othar knows there is a goblin population that lives close to the town and he wonder if maybe he could do something to help keep them away from the town for good.

Step 3:
: List two secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves him but that he is not actually aware of yet. This will help me in creating plots that center around your character. I will also be creating a third secret which you as a player will not be aware of, so expect some surprises!
Othar has not actually killed a guard despite thinking so himself, he was there when the last raid took place on Sandpoint and he believes that he caused a death of a guard.
Othar knows that his family is taking a lot of shame because of him and he knows that he can clear his name by turning in Jubrayl Vhiski

Step 4:
: Describe three people that are tied to the character though blood, romance or honor. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile. All can do something useful for you, if you can get the situations to line up. If you like, you can include an enemy of yours here as well, so I have an instant NPC nemesis to throw at you.
Hostile - Jubrayl Vhiski
Father - Hylar Gillrum
Friend - Nub Nilthar

Step 5:
: Describe three memories that your character has. They don't have to be elaborate, but they should provide some context and flavor.

The raid on Sandpoint, a night of fire and screaming and some deaths.
Collecting flowers from outside the city with his mother and his family, his father using them to create poultice to sell at the market.
Leaving home and running away with the Sczarni families and learning from them on how to learn information quickly.

I got into another game and I can't get a nice concept, so I'm bowing out. See you next time, Sandpoint.

Made an alias of previous post. Easier to parcel this way I would think.

From the mists of time (April 2016), a man strides forth wearing robes and carrying a longsword.
He was originally built for this game, but was tweaked for another RotR submission, so hopefully I've switched everything back to the way it was.
Rolls here

Background:

The first thing he remembers is the storm. He must have fought the hurricane for days, until at last he staggered ashore and collapsed on a beach.
After escaping the lands of the Red Mantis in his fisherman guise, he made his way north, the dream from the beach echoing in his ears. “They are returning.” That must have been why he took mortal form again. Or sent part of his spirit to inhabit this mortal shell. Yes. Some great danger from his past. He would have sought to rally his followers against them, but Asmodeus took the side of… of… of the enemy and threatened a war that would set Golarion ablaze. This was the only way. That is what happened, right? Yes, he thinks.
Asmodeus had taken advantage of his absence, of course, but he was sure that Iomedae and Milani would in time set things right. The girls had good instincts and a knack for inspiring others. His mission was to deal with this enemy. The Whispering Way? The aboleths? Some enemy of Old Azlant?
He has traveled to Varisia to continue seeking out signs and portents, as well as to search any Thassilonian ruins he can find for clues.

Appearance:

Aroden is a tall human male with long black hair and a beard. He looks much like his classical depictions, except when he is traveling in one of his guises.

Five Things:

1) He tends to think he is not literally Aroden reincarnated, but merely figuratively so. That is, he is an amnesiac human of extreme magical potential who for some unexplained reason knows a great deal about Aroden, and who will undoubtedly ascend to godhood in his own right and assume Aroden’s role. It is, then, a largely academic difference that does not overly concern him.
2) He is driven and confident. He could be described as “LG with LN tendencies,” as he is not overly compassionate towards enemies and is will use necromancy spells when necessary. Still, he will go out of his way to protect the innocent and fight for justice.
3) As the past and/or future God of Humanity, he is naturally partial to humans. He likes elves, dwarves, gnomes, or halflings, and feels a certain noblesse oblige towards them. As the greatest of races, humans must use their power to help the others. An encounter with an aged half-elf priest of Aroden in Absalom has challenged his views.
4) He feels a degree of contempt for most other wizards. Nearly all of them that he has encountered in his travels have proven pathetically weak and socially inept. What happened to the example he/Aroden set? Certainly there is value in studying, but not at the total sacrifice of all else.
5) He does not mind if others think him insane, as long as they fight for the right.

Two Goals:

1) Obviously, I’d like Aroden to have some clue about what is going on with his apparent “reincarnation,” and if he is not truly the god, how he came to have so many memories of Aroden.
2) I’d like divinations to be valuable. That is, I think it would be cool if (with proper forethought on my part) Aroden could help overcome, avoid, or thwart obstacles with divination magic. First of all, since the Runelords scorn divination, it would be fun to beat them with it. Second, as a player, I feel PFS relies a little too heavily on “buff and kick in the door” rather than gathering information. Would like a change.

Two Secrets:

1) He has vague, disturbing dreams of the darkness between the stars. It is not an empty void. Something is there.
2) The Red Mantis Assassins are after him. Just in case he really is Aroden reborn, they are determined to kill him before he can re-ascend.

Three People:

1) Sabriel, a skeptical elven ranger, is a follower of Milani. Aroden saved her life from Asmodeans in Cheliax. Although she still thinks him mad, she does wonder if he is who he claims to be. It was Aroden’s death that allowed the Asmodeans to take over her country, and she hopes that when he finishes this task he will return to help her. She traveled to Varisia a few months before he did, and may be around somewhere.
2) Magor of the Whale-Road is a dwarven pirate who helped Aroden and Sabriel escape Cheliax. He thinks Aroden is a con artist and wants to get in on the ground floor of starting this cult. As a result, he pretends to believe everything Aroden says. Still, he is good-hearted (CG) and thinks that Aroden could do a lot of good by giving hope to people. Aroden, for his part, feels indebted to the dwarf and is uncomfortable mentioning that a dwarf cannot be the High Priest of the God of Humanity. He does suspect that the dwarf is more interested in money than theology.
3) The Grey Watchman’s pursuit led Aroden and Sabriel to flee Cheliax. Little is known about this inquisitor of Asmodeus, as he is fond of using disguises (though the grey scarf is ever-present).

Three Memories:

1) His first from this incarnation is swimming through a hurricane – the Eye of Abendego. He washed up on the shores of Mediogalti Island.
2) He has many memories of his/Aroden's godhood, from slaying Tar-Baphon in 896 AR to grieving over his herald Arazni when the lich slew her three thousand years later. This latter is the most vivid… one does not think of the gods as helpless and weeping. He knows that somewhere his mind is the reason why he was unable to save her.
3) After escaping Cheliax, he ended up in Absalom, where he met a priest of Aroden. This half-elf had become a priest at a young age, despite his mixed heritage, and had held onto his faith throughout the turmoil of the past 110 years. Aroden was stunned by the man’s perseverance, and began to wonder if his views on the greatness of the human race needed re-evaluation – clearly this half-breed was meant to teach him something. He was able to restore the man’s eyesight through some miracle that he cannot explain.

Basic Crunch is done. I'll be adding her write up and 10-Minute Background over the next day.

Well, Zarque is only mostly complete, well he is complete but adjustments may be required if selected. I.E. learned sorcery is 3pp, so I'll need to swap it if chosen.

Zarque was made for this ap, but according to a different gm's rules.
