War, What Is It Good For - War In Your Games

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Whether its all-out battles between, cold wars between longtime rivals, or shadow wars between secret factions war can be a central feature to many games. Today we’re going look at warfronts that you characters might find in Pathfinder’s Golarion setting. Also some possible ideas for games on these warfronts and soldier and ex-soldier characters.

War exists beyond Pathfinder and the world of Golarion so how have you incorporated it into you stories? What kinds of adventures have you sent your players on, on the warfront? What kinds of military characters have you played? How do you deal with sensitive war related issues like PTSD?

War fronts don't work for me in RPGs for very long, as a player or GM.

Now the disruption CAUSED by war creates huge opportunities.

War!

Oh, what is it good for? (What is it good for?)
It's good for you, (Good for you!) It's good for me!

Ohh, War!
What is it good for? (What is it good for?) Oh, it strengthens the economy!

I'm currently running my players dealing with the after effects of war on the frontier, reclaiming border towns and keeps in the name of the new empire. They've had to help the villagers deal with the effects of famine (which led to cannibalism and demon worship in one hamlet), poverty, an influx of monsters, soldiers that don't realize the war is over, and deserters robbing frontier hamlets of their food, men, and resources. So right now, it's reconstruction time.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

In a Kingmaker game I played, each player essentially controlled a city-state as part of a larger alliance, and although my city, which was the closest thing to a capital, never got involved there were a few wars between other city-states.
