Half dragon bite attack

Rules Questions

The Exchange

d20pfsrd, half dragon template: "Type: Creature type changes to dragon"
d20pfsrd, universal monster rules: "Some creatures treat one or more of their attacks differently, such as Dragons, which always receive 1-1/2 times their Strength bonus on damage rolls with their bite attack."

does the latter apply to the former? for example: if i have a half dragon human fighter with 18 strength, does its bite attack deal 1d6+4 or 1d6+6?

The dragon type doesn't grant any bonuses to natural attacks, nor do all dragons have a 1.5 strength bite (such as basically all drakes).

Template doesn't say you get a 1.5 strength bite either so you're so stuck at normal I'm afraid.

what Tarik said, what Dragons the universal monster rule is referring to are True Dragons. Basically the ones labeled: Dragon, Red or Dragon, Imperial. Half-dragons, Drakes ect. do not gain that advantage.

i see, thanks for the help. i threw a half dragon at my party in the last session, the barbarian commented that it was doing a lot of damage for a CR 5 :P.

it can do 1.5 damage on bite if it is the only natural attack the creature has. Like T-rex, but it because of the natural attack rules not because it is a dragon.
