Advice and Rules Questions

Hello. I was wondering if you could help me come up with a character that is overpowered damage wise. My group has become who has the highest damage and who can get the most kills. Which was fine at first but after a while i got sick of it. So i want to ourside all of them so they can see what its like having no kills or any character that is better then the rest. I want to get them more focused on the roleplaying instead of the combat. So currentlt we are level 7 and the most damage anyone of them can do at this point is about 400 with a critical. Any ideas for a stronger damage at this point? Also i need it to be a class that they cant be like oh its just an overpowered class from a third party or darn munk. Always so overpowered (they actually banned munk from being used because it was to OP and broken :/) Thank you for any and all help ^^

Liberty's Edge

My best idea is a master summoner with a rod of giant summoning and the augment summoning feat. Overwhelm your enemies and flood the field with oversized creatures.

They banned Monk for being Overpowered.

I seem to have slipped into the bizzaro realm. Any pointers on how to get out?

This is probably in the wrong forum, unless you're specifically after broken 3pp stuff.

On-topic...."Out-building" players who have no interest in RP in order to get them to RP has insanely low chances of succeeding - a DPR arms race will probably just make things worse.

+1 to that.

If anything, you will just wow them, and they will pat you on the back as you all continue to slay every encounter in which you win the initiative battle... until the GM decides he is tired of giving you mooks, and tries to design an encounter that will actually pose a challenge... and then he accidentally TPKs you...

I need to ask you: is the GM encouraging roleplaying encounters? This kind of behaviour is best dealt with by the GM than by other players. If the best way he can do to deal with them is throwing stronger enemies he's not doing it right.

He should add some encounters that are better solved by diplomacy or wits and rewarding them for getting things done in a less murderous way. If he just throws them things to kill or get them killed he is encouraging their behaviour.

Shadow Lodge

Don't wow them with damage. Wow them with "control". Build a character that takes control of the enemies. Like a bard or enchantment focused spell caster. Actually using the bard you could just diplomacy your way through everything. Take the wind out of their sales by stopping the fight before it begins.

I think you know what I'm going to advise here...

Two sentences: two entirely different goals. I'm in sympathy with your goals, but the folks you're gaming with will not even understand the point you're trying to make. Have you tried saying, "Can we focus more on the role-playing instead of the combat?" and seeing where that gets you?

Or you could spank them everytime they attempt to powergame until they either cut it out or leave the table. You sound like the GM, and what you say goes. Want to up the DR to ridiculous level to even the playing field? DONE. Want every creature to have quadruple max D20 HP? DONE!! Want to give them puzzle after puzzle after puzzle after trap after trap after trap with no creature encounters? DONE AND DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Provide some encounters that aren't combat solvable. Or at least, if they solve with combat, the rewards are vastly reduced.

Actually my regular GM also considers monks very strong. This can happen with any class / concept when the person in question only sees a skewed part of the picture.

Back in old 3.5 (or was it 3.0?) I knew some players that thought the monk was the most powerful class in the game. They all played games with almost no gear, and for no gear I mean making "powerful" gear like two handed weapons, heavy armors or non-simple weapons be something very rare in the game. They also nearly banned magic.
