At 1st level, a hunter forms a bond with an animal companion. A hunter may begin play with any of the animals available to a druid. This animal is a loyal companion that accompanies the hunter on her adventures. This ability functions like the druid animal companion ability (which is part of the nature bond class feature). The hunter's effective druid level is equal to her hunter level. If a character receives an animal companion from more than one source, her effective druid levels stack for the purposes of determining the companion's statistics and abilities.

This is the only place in the Hunter's class description that I could find that talks about stacking levels; and as it is directly a part of and only references Animal Companion rules, I believe it is safe to say that levels in Hunter, Druid, Ranger, and other classes which grant Companions, only stack for the purposes of determining the abilities of said Companions.

One thing to note here is that a Ranger's Effective Druid Level is his Ranger level -3 and does not receive a companion or EDL until level 4. So, a Hunter 1/Ranger 3, has an EDL of 1. A Hunter 1/Ranger 4, would have an EDL of 2. Boon Companion would remove that penalty, making your EDL 5.

As far as spells go, your spells will be kept separate from each other per class... a Hunter does not need to prepare spells and has a special selection of them to include Druid spells up to level 6 AND you can only know so many at a time. A Ranger needs to prepare his spells each day and only prepare those from the ranger spell list. So, depending on your levels, you would need to prepare your Ranger spells that you want to cast that day along with the ability to cast any of the Hunter spells you know at will(within you daily spell allotment). One thing I have considered is that Hunter is limited to spells known and are chosen from Druid and Ranger spell lists.

One could argue that having access to 1st level Ranger spells, due to levels in Ranger, could add all 1st level Ranger spells to the Hunter's list of spells known... but I haven't read anything that covers that in the rules.

Nope, Classes keep spell lists and spells known separate.

So if you are a bard 1/sorceror 1 you would have 2 spells known lists and you couldn't use sorceror spell slots to cast bard spells known nor vice versa.

Note that all ranger spells are already on the hunters spell list*, but you still have to select one as a spell known to ... uh!...know it.

*if a spell appears on both the ranger and druid spell list they get at whichever is the lowest level - good times for the hunter
