Event details
Event name: PbP Community Multi Table Special II
Event number: 85936
Begins: Fri, Jan 13, 2017
***

Hi all,

Just kicking off a GM only thread for the special so we can maintain communication and ensure nothing gets missed.

At present, we have 15 GM's scheduled and a waitlist for GM's almost as long again. Pretty much all of those 15 tables are full, but there is only a very small waitlist for players, which suggests we might go out another table or two at most, but I can make a call on that closer to the start date (as some will no doubt drop off etc).

When we get closer to the launch of the day I will generate an Overseer thread on these boards, and per standard custom and practice, each Overseer announcement will be posted into the Gameplay threads. I've had a few conversations around the announcements, and whilst I agree it CAN be a bit jarring, the same is applicable at a tabletop session too.

Shared prep and the like is always helpful, so feel free to give each other a hand, and if possible I will get up a Googleslides kit in the next few days so people can copy it and use it for their table too.

From the admin side:
* Game Day support (boons) have been requested and acknowledged.
* I am lodging Scenario support today.

Reporting:
The reporting process will be covered off later, but in short - GM;s will gather player data and issue them chronicles, and then send the player data to me for reporting.

Boons:
These will be detailed once I get approval from the mothership.

***
I will be away on holidays from 10 Dec - 18 Dec and will not be online during that period, but any questions raised here will certainly be addressed when I return.

Mind posting a link here to the DMs/players/"tables" manifest?

What is the stance on people playing Core and Standard at the same time?

I think I saw at least one player signed up for both.

So while I certainly know how to DM, I'll need a fair bit of handholding for all the technical PbP/event creation/reporting stuff.

To start, how would I create a gameplay thread?

4/5 5/55/55/55/5

@GMAero - I'll check that out, but yeah.... no. Just one ticket on this ride.

@IGiYC -
* Go to http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/community/campaigns/playByPost
* Select 'add new thread'

Also THIS is a good guide.

I will put together a Googleslide map pack for you to copypasta (you have a gmail account?) which will help with your prep.

Shifty, you make it too easy with the slides kits. I'm looking forward to getting the ball rolling. I hear this scenario is particularly brutal. I've never killed off a PC before, so this should be interesting.

4/5 5/55/55/55/5 ****

Shifty --

Here are the things that I think would be helpful to everyone.

Number one: The google slide map pack. Do you need someone else to put it together? Let me know.

Number two: A google GM doc listing the dates for each transition so that we all know how much time we actually have in each part.

Number three: Some guidelines on how to use the backup GMs? Should I contact them now with my upcoming Conventions, so that I can get that weekend off in advance?

Number four: What can we do to help? Is there anything in the above list we can take off your plate or help you with?

Hmm

4/5 5/55/55/55/5

1 - I'll crank it out this week, all good.

2 - Jesse & Co apparently have this already done and are sending it to me, so it should match up to what we had last time. Otherwise I'll get one up before kick off - but for general awareness '5 mins = 1 day' round up :)

3 - I'll get Maga to let me know which way he wants to handle that one...!

4 - All good for now. The key thing is to make sure gameplay threads are up ahead of time. Also, if GM's could get their players to check in ahead of time where possible, so if someone doesn't show up within 24 hours of the start then we can adjust as possible.

4/5 5/55/55/55/5 ****

5 min = 1 day?

Excellent. That will help me plan!

Thank you for all your hard work!

Yes... yes... a deadly scenario... MWAHAHAHAHA

Just dotting in. :)

Setup my thread for people to check in and updated the spreadsheet. I will also be out for part of the holidays, but back in plenty of time for Jan 13 kickoff.

Thanks, Shifty, for organizing this!

GM Fuzzfoot: Just as a note, I am signed up to play as Amelia in your game, but am also on the waitlist as a GM.. let me know if this causes any concern for you.

4/5

Signed up on the waitlist. Would prefer to play my level 11 if a spot opens, but also have a 3 (about to be 4) I could play.

Liberty's Edge 3/5

Shifty, any idea when the scenarios are going to hit our downloads? Just an idle wondering, not complaining or anything.

4/5 5/55/55/55/5

I flicked off the request, and Jesse has it in hand.

I would normally expect them to arrive about 2 weeks prior to kick off, which seems about the time they have historically arrived :)

4/5 5/55/55/55/5 ****

Evil, you will get it this Wednesday, guaranteed. Everyone else may have to wait. But you'll see yours on Wednesday. That's when they dump all the downloads on VOs.

Hmm

4/5 5/55/55/55/5

Ahhh THAT set of downloads...

I need a bigger computer.

Oh, you got yours early!

Congratulations!

Dark Archive 3/5

Yeah, the email came right as I was reading the replies about it. Wow. There is a lot of stuff to comb through.

Thanks for the well wishes guys. :)

Sovereign Court 5/5

I'd prefer to run it CORE but seeing that the CORE tables are all full, Classic is fine.

I do remember that this is a rather brutal Scenario though with the new classes since APG.....This could be interesting.

4/5 5/55/55/55/5

I just ran this locally as an Overseer, the body count was rather high.

Google Slides Map Pack
HERE

Maps and basic info kit attached, just make sure you copy/pasta to your own fresh slide file and then share yours with your players. You can put big black squares over the maps they are not up to, or just start with the first couple of slides and then copy pages across as you need them. Whatever floats your boat.

Thanks to Hmm for getting those sorted.

Are some Tiers more/less merciful than others, by chance?

Okay, I could use some tutoring on this. Here's my game-thread - how do I plug it all in?

Oooooh ... Love that 'Rock Salt' font in the Blood Under Absalom title.

Thanks, Hmm & Shifty!

1) Create your own copy of the slide maps.

2) Under sharing options, get a link.

2b) Select the option for making your slide show editable by anyone with the link.

3) Copy that link in Tinyurl.com. Get a shorter link.

4) Use that shorter link in your Gamemaster Header. For an example of this look at my profile.

5) You can also edit your campaign info tab and put that link into the first top box.

Thank you. I had fun putting this together.

Hmm

4/5 5/55/55/55/5

We had 6 deaths from the 9 tables, but the general sense of feeling mauled was even more prevalent. It's just the way this one goes - it punishes those who dither about or do things like 'split the party'.

IDIYC.
Make a copy of the Googleslide presentation (you will need a Gmail account)
Rename it as whatever you want.
Share the file, but make sure you select 'anyone with link can edit'.
Copy the url into your Campaign Info tab.

Call me slow on the uptake, but how do I copy all that at once?

4/5 5/55/55/55/5 ****

1) Go to file in the slideshow. Click the menu.

2) Scroll down to "Make a copy..." and click it.

3) Rename it to whatever you want.

Thanks a lot to you two for putting all this together :)

Oh geez, that was simple - but I want to be sure: Which folder of the options given should I put it in, and do I click "share it with the same people?"

I do not yet see the "anyone with link can edit" option Shifty mentioned.

4/5 5/55/55/55/5 ****

Don't share the slideshow with the same people. It's currently in one of my folders. You don't need to share it with me.

You can create your own folder in Google Drive devoted to the BUA special.

What I tend to put in mine:

1) A copy of the scenario that I can reference quickly.

2) A file with monster stat blocks for quick reference.

3) A google doc in which I compose posts in advance. At the top of it I have quick reference blocks for initiative and perception.

4) A reporting doc with a list of everyone's chronicle reporting information and day job rolls so that I don't have to dig for them in discussion

5) The slide show -- I usually put monster minis on the last tab. So it may be a good idea to look forward at what your group may be fighting, and find monster images that you may want so you don't have to dig for them later.

____

Under sharing options get shareable link. Once you have the link, you should have the option to allow anyone with the link to edit.

Hmm

I mean it gives 3 options: "My drive," "Shared with me," and "Starred" - which one do I pick?

Yes, I'm very much a Google Drive greenhorn. I tried using it for something else related to these forums, but then it got screwed up somehow or something.

You save the copy to "My drive" which is your own drive.

Once you have your own copy that you own, you can share it.

In Your Closet, are you on Google Hangouts? I'm at home today. I could call you via google hangouts and then walk you through this whole process all at once so that you're oriented.

Hmm

No, I'm not; salient PM reply already sent.

I think I did it - thanks!

At a first glance through the PDF, I became extremely nervous.. What the ever loving &^$%$%^& did I get myself into?!. After a more complete read through, I am slightly mollified but still have a few questions.

My biggest one, and the one I think can simplify the work the most regards rolling up the individual waves of baddies. In the PDF, it says to roll these randomly as they occur. What would the general consensus be regarding rolling these encounters prior to things kicking off? The benefits of this would be that stat cards and such can already be prepared and standing by as needed and the encounters preplanned for fluidity. This will decrease the prep time for the GM during play, hopefully making for a smoother transition and quicker posting.

Secondly, the text states several times that the PC's need a ruby to gain entrance to the second part of the qualification but it also says that just one ruby per group is enough to admit the group. How should this be handled, and which is preferred/ correct?

Anyways, what are yalls thoughts?

Dark Archive 4/5 5/55/5 ****

For PbP, it shouldn't be that big a deal to wait until an encounter is winding down then make the rolls for the next random set of creatures. For a real time game, I'd say do it all ahead of time to keep things moving.

They only need to get one ruby, but because there is only a 50% chance it glows, they will likely want more to increase their odds as noted on page 10 of the scenario.

@Closet, looking good!

If it’s best for you, DO EEEEET!

You’re a PBP GM. You can even roll REAL DICE when and where it’s convenient for you and PREP IT ALL BEFOREHAND if you want to!

And you know what? NOBODY will ever know. And your players won’t care.

They’re here to have fun, with a GM who's also having fun ;)

4/5 5/55/55/55/5

@IDiYC - Looking good, thanks Hmm for giving some guidance there too!

@Awen - yeah the joys of PbP means more breathing room, running 'live' was a bit funky. Like DrParty suggests, some pre-planning can help. Also correct about the gems. There may be some last minute table-trading going on :)

@YiM - Correct, as much prep as you can manage is always time well invested.

Thank you all. That is actually why I am asking... so I can prep as much as I can. I figured if I could get my major posts done into a word document saved to my google drive it would save me a whole world of time and effort and make for a smoother game flow.

Shifty! Glad to see you back. I hope the trip was enjoyable?

Very logical planning! You are pretty much on the right track!

I had a lovely time - Mare and the Isle of Pines were cracking! Yejele Beach has to be one of my favourite places, but I found a funky little spot for snorkelling in Kanumera Bay around the sacred rock, even managed to happen on a friendly turtle whilst indulging in a little underwater photography. Noumea is always a bit hit and miss, but was rather enjoyable as I just hit up the boulangeries and overindulged in French pastries.

Now back for a glorious Aussie Summer and BBQ time. No shrimps on the barbie though.

Where do you live? Cold climates are getting rarer....

Liberty's Edge 2/5

I live in southern indiana, Midwest USA. Our high for today was reached at 2 am at 23 degrees Fahrenheit and it's been falling since with wind chills in the single digits or less. I wouldn't say it's a cold climate per se, but the winters here can be really brutal.. especially if you happen to be transplanted from Southern Texas!:-)
