Rival ideas

Advice

Looking to get some ideas for rivals for my large party. I generally give each player a rival that shows up repeatedly during a campaign.

Other details about the campaign: there are 2 main plot hooks. A red dragon has seized control over one of the 3 tribes in the area. Some of the tribesmen have formed a resistance and the players are to help out this resistance. One of the nearby cities encourages slavery. They can go to this city and attempt to free some slaves and/or overthrow the government.

The home base is a city set up by the players of the previous campaign. There are elements of steampunk and pirates. Firearms are permitted.

Here are the characters: (not everyone plays every week)
Orc barbarian/druid- orcs are not evil in this campaign, playing the typical big dumb brute.

Gnomish bard- pistol user, pirate who's crew has just been captured/killed by slavers

Gnome hydro-kineticist - escaped slave (saved by the bard)

Human Pyro-kineticist- part of the tribe controlled by the dragon

Human tower-shield specialist- unofficial heir to the throne of the home city (offspring of old PC's).

6 year old tele-kineticist/hunter- (another offspring of old PC's) trying to figure out her "unusual" powers.

(half?)-elf ranger- from the slaver city. Her dad was convicted of a crime and sentenced to slavery then died as a slave and she wants to find a way to regain her family honor.

might be interesting to have a match between all these kineticists and some blaster mages.

Druiarian vs A Swashbuckler with in investment in intelligence and charisma who mocks the orc and tries to dance around him whenever they fight

Bard - Javert type character

Water bender - I'm not sure how it would work but perhaps another escaped slave who blames her for the incarceration would be kewl.

Fire bender - an evocation wizard who holds a against him for employing fire without having to undergo formal training or even engaging with the arcane.

Human Wall - Does the home city have a government? someone could be trying to depose the original rules. Probably a caster of some variety, so they don't just get walled to f*%+.

Special snowflake - Maybe someone who can communicate telepathically, rather than being a headlong rival perhaps they try to turn or pollute the childs impressionable mind.

Ranger - elf son of a highborn family who had issues and re-directs said issues (daddy ones probably) into hating the ranger, thinks it will impress his family to capture the escaped slave ex daughter of another family. Possibly a mirror match.

I like it.

Perfect class for the barbarian counterpart. Now to figure out why he is attacking him.

I think I'll have the Javert character going after the slave and have a former member of the pirate crew after the bard blaming her for their capture.

Fire- I like where this is going. Will probably use a shaman or something (as it's likely the rival will be from the red dragon's tribe).

vs human wall. you mean someone who was exiled from the city (likely the wall's parents)? Perhaps a necromancer? That is something the city totally frowns upon.

Special snowflake (lol)- yes, great idea. Something like the emperor seducing Anakin to the darkside...

Ranger- a mirror match from the other side of her father's trial... always about half a step ahead of her.

thanks for the help.

maybe the barb bedded his lady :) Swashbucklers normally hold grudges over that sort of s@&%.

Or a bureaucrat in search of elevated station
