Gods' influence over the paladin

Advice

Hello guys.
This is my very first adventure and my character is a human paladin. I read many guides about Castigator paladins and they all recommended to use Falchion (or Fauchard, can't remember well) as my two handed weapon. As I read more, I was looking for a god for my paladin and ended up choosing Elurreon, a god that watches over cities and stuff (now I kinda regret it, but it doesn't really matter). I saw that his weapon was a two handed mace and thought I had to match my character's weapon with the god's, so that's what I did.
The point is (actually, the points are): is it bad to have chosen a two handed mace for my paladin?
Does it make any difference to match the weapons?
Is the Falchion (Fauchard, whatever) that good?

1) You don't have to use the same weapon as your deity, there's no such rule.

2) The falchion is a pretty nice weapon because it has a good crit range. The no-dachi is even better but not in the core book (matters to some people). Paladins like crits because they tend to have a lot of bonus damage that gets multiplied (strength, magical/bonded weapon, smite).

3) The fauchard is a polearm with unusually good crit range, but it's an exotic weapon so it takes an additional feat to use it properly.

1) Maybe not as rule, but does it combo in anyway with my deity? This confused me a bit, because with the deities info, their favorite weapons are listed as well.

2) Yeah, stomping enemies would be quite interesting :D

3) Oh, ok. I will take a look at the falchion and the nodachi.
Thanks a lot!

1) Not bad per se; bad if you consider that there are better weapons, the Falchion being one one the best. Actually, I can't say because there is no two-handed mace with that name, so I'm not sure which exact weapon you chose.
2) No. Even Clerics don't gain any inherent bonus from using their Deity's favored weapons, they just have proficiency on it in addition to their normal class proficiencies. Paladins don't gain such additional proficiency, so the Deity's weapon has to either be simple/martial or they'll have to take the Exotic Weapon Proficiency feat (provided they want to use it, but, as mentioned, they have no obligation and get no bonus from doing so).
3) It is good, yes. Lowest critical range with two-handed weapons is always nice. The base damage is not the best, but the critical range may overcompensate. Especially if using Smite Evil (the added damage gets multiplied on criticals).

1) It was just a simple two handed mace, but as you said, there are better ones.

2+3) Yeah, I think I will end up buying the falchion instead. Thanks a lot!
