Interest Check / Preferences? - Adventurer's League

Recruitment

Dark Archive

Hi All,
I fancy DM'ing some 5e, but don't want to commit to anything super long-term at this time.

Anyone up for some Adventurer's League? If so is there any preference for which adventure? I'm playing in DDAL #01-03 Shadows Over the Moonsea, so that's off the table for the moment.

NB: I've not run an AL or PFS stuff before (and PFS gives me a headache) but AL seems fairly chilled out in it's working so I'm happy to give it a shot.

NB2: I'm based in the UK, so posting times will be offset from all you US folks, I'm hoping that as a GM this isn't too disruptive, as it should (in theory) mean everyone has plenty of time to post between GM posts, but if a lot of back and forth is required it may slow things down. Not sure what I can do about this, but making you aware.

I will generally make Saves and Init rolls on your behalf to keep things moving a bit quicker, and in general I will generally assume that if 1/2 of the party choose to do something the party as a whole will do it.

I'm definetly in for some Adventure League.

I just finished my first adventure and would be down for another. I have a 2nd level Druid who speaks to the spirits of....well, everything, really.

I'm a regular adventurers league DM here on the PBP boards. If you have any questions about running one, I'm happy to help!

Also, I have a level 2 land druid looking for some adventure. :)

5E - count me in!

Dark Archive

Okay, for a while there I thought there was little-no interest.

Any preferences on which adventure to run, I've purposely not read any in case I play them?

If there's no preference, does
DDAL05-01 Treasure of the Broken Hoard (5e)
sound like a good starting point?

People who play 5e tend to look for a [5e] tag on the recruitment forums. I missed it the first few times I looked. Usually just do a search for 5e.

A bit of a hint:

The first adventure in each season tends to be a series of mini adventures. While still a 4 hour module, it can be a lot to read and prepare for. You may want to find one of the other Levels 1-4 modules in the season. In fact, one just got released today! 05-07

I've only played ddex2-11, which AL DM ran. I'm also currently playing DDAL 01-03, shadows over moonsea with a different character.

I'm actually good for any adventure except DDAL01-02, DDEX 02-06, and DDEX 02-11.

I have played 5e a couple of times and would be interested in joining up with your group.

Dark Archive

Okay, going to pick up
DDAL05-07 Chelimber's Descent (5e) (1st-4th level)
and give it a quick run though, provided it doesn't flag up any issues with me, I'll look at getting this started.

So far we have:

Crockoclock Ophone
Vrog Skyreaver (Level 2 Druid)
AL DM (Level 2 Druid)
Filios
Twistlok

AL runs with 3-7, with 5 considered the 'optimal' group size, so if folks want to profile up.

Starting now means we will likely run into xmas, this doesn't really cause a problem for me, obviously some slowdown is to be expected, but I imagine we can continue provided we get a party majority posting.

Dark Archive

Yay, (minor) issues already, Apparantly DDAL05-07 directly follows DDAL05-06, so I'll be running that one first. If all goes well, I will continue on to DDAL05-07, in short order afterwards and will prioritise the same players.

Profile for Vrog.

I see a couple of 2nd level character in already. My plan had been to start a new character, will that work?

Is it still levels 1-4? I will likely be starting fresh with a Male Wood Elf Rogue, Level 1.

Dark Archive

With all the druids and wood elves running around, I kinda feel like we need a ranger to fill the group out.

How's a ranger sound? Everyone cool with a ranger? Would that complete the party?

And, ya, what level are we starting at? If you wanna keep the AL "feel" and have some chars higher than others, I'm happy playing the novice ranger following the experienced druids to vanquish evil.

Also, odd question: Is it okay to allow my Ranger to start with a crossbow instead of a longbow? They both cost 50gp and I've never seen the problem with it, but I thought I'd ask first. (A crossbow strikes me as more 5E Ranger-y to me, but then again I'm not that bright. ;-)

This is Filios, and I submit Victor "Vic" Lofliss for consideration.

Profile for AL DM.

Sorry about that! I didn't know they were linked!

Yup. This is Adventurers League. There will be characters of different levels. You must start at level 1.

Must start at level 1.

This is organized play, and you cannot switch out gear in organized play for free. You must start with the gear from your starting class and background.

If you want to change gear from there, then when the adventure starts, you can sell and buy as normal, so long as the adventure allows it.

And it all has to be logged on the Logsheet and tracked, so you can take it to another DM for Adventurers League and there's no question for what happened. Not doing so risks you losing equipment or being forced to use a different character if that DM is a stickler about it.

I don't know how spinningdice will rule it, but these are the rules for organized play.

I'd probably just say yes, and make a note of it on the Logsheet.

This is Mordekai, a 1st level wood elf monk with the urchin background.

AL DM has answered nicely, but my input below:

1st-4th level characters, AL is designed to have a mix and 5e doesn't seem to fair too badly with mixed power levels, as the power-escalation seems a little more muted than 3E/PF. Also note that you need to follow the guidance in the AL Players Guide. Notably you can use the PHB + One Of the other books (from EE Players Guide, Sword Coast or Volo's Guide to Monsters). If anyone uses anything from Volo's be warned that I don't yet have it, but I'm willing to go on trust that you are doing your stats etc correctly. Options from the DMG are not allowed (so no Aasimar, death domain etc (though Aasimar are in Volo's guide,I think).

Adventure says that it is optimised for 5 3rd level characters, but unlike what I've seen of PFS, AL has both recommended adjustments and allows on-the-fly adjustments to the difficulty level.

Since we're mostly level 1, and if we stay at 5 character, I'll set us to "Very Weak" for the first couple of encounters and eyeball how well you do.

@Atlas2112: Not sure about swapping gear, official Players Guide for AL says you just get the starting gear, for a non-AL game I certainly wouldn't have an issue with it. If you don't mind starting with the official gear, I can promise you that a Longbow will be available to you within short order of starting.

Factions: Since some of you are making fresh characters, I'll mention that the Emerald Enclave have a faction mission in DDAL05-06, if we continue onto 07, then Harpers have a faction mission. It is in no way essential for these to be undertaken, even if you do take the factions, but since your faction rep directly equates to your ability to buy magic items it's worth at least being aware.

Also, AL seems like it should be first come first served, so any of:

Crockoclock Ophone (Monk)
Vrog Skyreaver (Level 2 Druid)
AL DM (Level 2 Druid)
Filios (Rogue)
Twistlok (?)
Atlas2112 (Ranger?)

who have a character ready or create one ready can dot/post in the gameplay/discussion threads (NB: In the Gameplay thread you can post to subscribe and then delete your post and it'll stay in your Campaigns tab).

Everyone except Twistlok & Atlas seem to have a character already profiled up.
I'll aim to get this started on Monday, unless you need more time Twistlok?

Still willing to take on one more for a max group, but can any new submissions

I have a copy of Volo's, so I can verify if needed. Please note that if you use Volo's, there are restrictions for your background and faction availability. See the free Volo Guide to AL.

I need to switch my Longbow to a Shortbow according to standard equipment. I need to make that upgrade as soon as possible, as well.

Dark Archive

3 dots so far. How are you guys doing Twistlok, Atlas?

I realise that Monday Afternoon here in the UK is quite different to Monday afternoon in the USA, so I'd like to start up in roughly 24 hours from this post.

Don't worry too much about polishing characters. You can rebuild between adventures up until hitting 5th level.

Dark Archive

And we're up. Posted up in the discussion thread now, giving a little pre-amble, if anyone can get statted up and ready before the start of the first 'official' encounter I'll still let you in. But the clock's ticking...

Here is Twistlok's cleric for 5e.

I think I took most the things we will need off my character sheet.

I'm interested in playing on my fighter if you have room.

That's the guy I invited. :)

Dark Archive

Sorry, just realised I never actually replied here. Sending Clyde an PM to check he's stil interested.

I think I have a dodgy habit of clicking preview then thinking its posted.

Sorry.
