Achieving Undeath

Advice

As a PC character, achieving the aspect of Undeath is....hard. At least in normal standards, as standard is Lich. What are other ways of achieving playable undeath??

I guess the undead bloodline isn't technically undead but a dampire (I know it's spelled wrong) with the undead bloodline is pretty close

ah but I mean actual undeath

Give the party wizard a scroll of Animate Dead, then end your own life and have him raise you right after.

I mean, sure, you won't be a PC anymore, or even sentient, but you'll be undead!

If actual sentience is important to you, lich or vampire are the most attractive routes. You need to undergo one of a few different rituals for becoming a lich, with grave penalties for failing, but to become a vampire, you need only find another one.

I know, actual undeath is hard to come by, you can become a lich I suppose but other than that...have a party member cast create undead on you? Die and become a ghost? Stay inside so long that people mistake you for death himself?

There's the corruption system in Horror Adventures. You've got the choice of lich, ghoul and vampire.

These are all wonderful suggestions. It seems though that outside of Lich or Vampire, actual sentience in undeath is near impossible to achieve. Thats alright, I was simply looking for a better alternative. Nothing says Lich's all look like skeletons right? lol.

Contingency + create undead to come back as a mohrg (18th level caster). Or a mummy.

A humanoid who dies of ghoul fever rises as a ghoul at the next midnight. A humanoid who becomes a ghoul in this way retains none of the abilities it possessed in life. It is not under the control of any other ghouls, but it hungers for the flesh of the living and behaves like a normal ghoul in all respects.

Ghouls are sentient, and - GM permitting - available as PCs. You'd lose your current Class Levels, but there's no reason you can't get new ones.

What about Ju Ju Zombies?

And if there is an option for 3.Party/old D&D stuff maybe the Necropolitan from the Libris Mortis is a good choice.

Or start with an awesome Darakhul!

I talked to my GM about the Ghouls idea. He's ok with it, but he is putting the Stat buffs where he wants them (regardless of my chosen class), and it would cost me 2 levels (because 2 HD ghoul)

This.

Contingency this and bam: instant sentient undead with all of your class levels.

I did a breakdown of why this method was superior elsewhere (though I made a pretty critical math mistake), but I lack the time to post it now. I'll link it later, if I remember.

So long as you and your GM are okay with it: cool. Cool. :)
