Wand spell recommendation my familiar can use

Advice

Hi!

Hitting level 7 I have my imp as a improved familiar. Now I think about buying some wands for him to support me in the wotr campaign. But I would really appreciate some reccommendations what wands (spells) I should buy.

Thx!

the ones I see most people pick are, Any 1st level buffing wands, bless, cure light wounds, ect. I often see magic missile wands but at like 5 level caster, or what ever the level is you have for 3 missiles. To do a little damage, invisibility wands are also useful, he can use it on other party members in the middle of combat. Most people stick to 1st level spell due to cost. summon monster wands also work well.

The Exchange

if you have a decent amount of funds, a wand of dispel magic can work wonders.

Enervation

Ill Omen is pretty handy, makes it a lot easier to land your own spells on a single enemy.

Careful with the offensive options; the more your familiar casts spells at the foe instead of buffing your allies, the more the foe is going to consider it a target. They stop using wands for you once they're dead.

I would actually disagree with this because Dispel Magic is very caster level (CL) dependent. You've got to keep the wand's CL equal to the enemy CL to have a fighting chance at having it work (will work 50% of the time with an equal CL), and oftentimes enemy CLs tend to be higher than the party's level anyways. So trying to create a wand with a competetive CL is going to be extremely costly, and probably not a worthwhile investment.

For example, if you are Level 7, enemy caster will likely be at least CL7 and perhaps considerably higher. You therefore need a wand with at least CL7, which will cost 15,750gp. However, it gets less and less useful over time, as you and your group level up (and thus the level of your opposition).

IMO, you are better off grabbing spells which are not highly CL or saving throw DC dependent, which tends to mean buffs for the most part. Obvious choices are Cure Light Wounds for healing, or certain commonly used buffs with at least min/level duration, like Enlarge Person. I also like Bless (if it won't conflict with other typical party buffs) and False Life, and I'm sure there are many others.

For more offense oriented spells, things get tougher. I like BigDTBone's suggestion of Enervation despite the high cost (though the fact it allows spell resistance could be a problem in your campaign, as CL becomes relevant again). I would also suggest looking at Stone Call for some damage and area control (without a save or spell resistance).

WagnerSika's suggestion of Ill Omen is also very good as a combo to soften up enemies for your own spellcasting.
