To sort of elucidate my point more, the thing that generally gets a GM's goat (well it gets mine anyway) with novaing or similar is more or less lack of control over the situation. With things like invisibility, flight, haste, teleport, etc I'm still very much in charge of the situation so to speak. My bad guys can do what they do and presuming I have two neurons to rub together, they'll at least have some tools to get through the stable of tricks (assuming I want this to be challenging and not a speed bump).

However, when people run around ragelancepouncing, persistent dazing fireball, or similar turn 1, control gets lost. My critters can't retaliate or do anything whether due to being dead or one of the various neutralized conditions. Any work done to making a memorable or interesting encounter is gone and there's not a whole lot to do about it short of getting really contrived with stuff like illusions or just cheating with HP/saves. Having that happen repeatedly is a very frustrating experience and is a lot more visible than sneaking past some guards invisibly, casting haste, or flying to the top of a tower even if under all technicalities it's more game-altering.
