Looks like it's set to debut the first two episodes on IMAX in theaters for 2 weeks prior to them premiering on ABC in September 2017.
NY Times article indicates it will focus on the royal family.

What I take away from this is that they're working with IMAX as a means of financing the pilot, which will generate ticket revenue independently of ABC's ad revenue. This could signal a shift in how effects-heavy media gets funded for the small screen going forward. After all, Doctor Strange has made $152M in two weeks, just 13M shy of its $165M budget. If they use that same budget for the season of television, that's a huge boost to what Agents of SHIELD gets, but they'd front-load the recouping of that investment, meaning even low viewership or ad sales would be negated by the IMAX ticket sales. It's a clever business plan; I'm eager to see how it plays out, in no small part because it could signal other properties making similar moves.

I'm just glad we'll get some G+*~$@n Black Bolt, Medusa and freaking Lockjaw! Plus if they pull from Garth Ennis' version of Karnak run, I'll be beyond thrilled.
Do you mean the current Warren Ellis run, or is there a Garth Ennis version I missed?
Not that I can really imagine a Garth Ennis version. Karnak drinking heavily and say "f$~*" a lot just doesn't seem right. :)

I wonder if it will have any ties to Agents of SHIELD. Lots of crossover/lead-in potential.
I hope/expect that in the season finale this year for SHIELD there will be some revelation that the Inhuman royal family exists, and someone like Mack would say "There's an Inhuman Royal Family?!?" And then we'd find out more in the new show.

Joel,
Probably that especially once they resolve Ghost Rider and the whole Watchdog thing.
Mark,
I too am not surprised by Dragon's disappointment.
Jeff,
Yes I meant the current one where he basically managed to undo a sonic attack by making his own pitched sound. Among other things I thought were epic feats of awesome.

You know I just realized how brutal a heavy metal band the Inhumans would be the name is perfect. Gorgon on drums Karnaks got the base medusa (and her hair) lead guitar back-up guitar, keyboard and synthesizer as needed. And on vocals the king (and I don't mean Elvis) Black-bolt. It would blow you away.... literally.

One thing about Black Bolt's portrayal for the last decade or so that bugs me is that the writers seem to forget that he's got all sorts of cool powers, and has single-handedly thrown down with the entire Fantastic Four *without using his voice.*
Just this last month or so, Iron Man captures Black Bolt in a sound-nullifying field, confident that this will somehow render him helpless, as if he doesn't have the power to kick Iron Man's butt *without his voice.* It's just annoying. Every single appearance seems to hinge on whether or not he's going to use the last power he ever *wants* to use, despite him having a raft of other abilities, based on manipulating electrons or gravitons or whatever.

Meh. I know that might bug others, but that's always how I remembered Black Bolt, voice power extraordinaire.
DC does the same thing with Wildfire. He's a sentient mass of anti-energy (energized antimatter plasma) in a containment suit. He can fly and shoot energy blasts and other stuff, but also he can rip his suit open and blast out of it in a massive antimatter explosion that will destroy just about anything. So, of course, new writers always seem to rush straight to that well, because being able to shoot anti-matter powered energy blasts is never good enough...
The AD&D/PF equivalent would be some 15th level wizard showing up with a staff of the magi, and deciding that every single encounter calls for a retributive strike, because, apparently, being a 15th level wizard is crap. :)
Much like Medusa is all about the hair.
Well, yeah, Medusa *is* all about the hair. She's like 80% hair and 20% hauteur. It's been fifty-ish years since she was introduced, and, if anything, she's got less characterization now than she had then.
Hair flip. Snippy comment. Hair flip. Dismissive comment.
Which still puts her two comments (and two hair flips) over Black Bolt. :)
Crystal's always been my favorite, although I like Karnak and Triton as well.
I've always wondered if Gorgon had a sibling. (There's a Gorgon and a Medusa in the royal family already, so Euryale and Stheno are still available for names!)
Attilan was, for ages, a zero population growth engineered society, every pairing chosen by the Genetic Council, and every pairing having exactly two children (Maximus and Black Bolt, Crystal and Medusa, Karnak and Triton, Gorgon and... ???).
Ditto for the Unspoken. Who was his wife? He ruled for quite some time, so he and Mrs. Unspoken should have had the requisite two children. What about his sibling? Was it a brother or a sister, and did said sibling (or wife, or kids) approve of the coup that replaced the Unspoken with Black Bolt? Did they also go into exile? Did they die during the coup? Did a bunch of supporters of the old regime and their families go into exile and found a new city full of Inhumans, somewhere else? There's an amazing story back there that could be told, but has mostly been ignored for the thirteenth retelling of 'Maximus goes crazy, again, and tries to usurp the throne, because that *totally* didn't get old the last dozen times, and yet, nobody saw it coming, because he had totally reformed, *again*...'

Dragon,
I'm not sure they will, but I do think Crystal will be the focus since she's been the most relatable of the Inhuman Royal family.
I also want Lockjaw. If they don't give us Lockjaw, I'm walking.
I don't think we'll get more background yet on the Unspoken, but Gorgon DOES have a son right that he exposed to Terrigenesis.
Set,
I liked her hauteur mostly because it's earned, in my book. But that's me.

This is gonna be awesome... I was wondering why Disney XD's Guardians of the Galaxy were so involved with Blackbolt, Medusa, Crystal and Maximus... now I know. (in that cartoon, Maximus is less crazy, more mastermind... he's almost like Batman in that he predicts all the crap Quill and the Guardians will try to pull... mastermind and chaotic... almost too good at times... we'll see if the TV show is similar... I especially like Maximus' uniform, shown second from the left here...)
Oh, and if the TV show pilot happens to have the Guardians show up... SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

So far they have been very reticent to cross the Marvel Studios and Marvel Television streams. Other than Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, and Jaime Alexander, there really haven't been any from film>tv, and even Clark Gregg hasn't gone back to film after he switched over the to tv side. I wouldn't hold out too much hope of there being crossover, though maybe with the IMAX partnership they'll have a larger budget to afford people with film contracts in the show?

In Disney's XD Guardians of the Galaxy cartoon, Quill and his gang are after the cosmic seed, which is another infinity gem (manipulated by Quill's dad, the King of Spartax, who's secretly working for Thanos). The King of Spartax, in his youth, stole it from Asgard (by excavating under the World Tree i.e. the seed is what the World Tree sprouted from), and I believe Loki stole it back from him, which is why he's manipulating Quill to go get it again (which starts a war between Spartax and Asgard, when evidence of Shennanigans is shown to the Asgardians by Quill, who is now disillusioned and aware of his father's perfidy...)
The inhuman royal family is involved, but I forgot why... Maximus is doing something bad... (I recorded the shows, have no fear... I can check again :P )

I think episodic storytelling fits this medium better than one movie would. Inhumans have all that court-intrigue and family drama going on it's better to spread it bit wider.
I mainly want them to fully embrace the grandiose melodrama of Inhumans. Not the boring X-Men Inhumans of AoS, no. I don't want to see Black Bolt strolling in a hoodie or t-shirt. Like Moviebob said "this is not a franchise where one can just go around dressed like its always laundry day". Black Bolt with his folding wings, Medusa's gravity defining giant hair and Attilan it it's full glory.

100% agreement there.
I want Attilan to be alien and grand and majestic, not some tunnels under Puerto Rico or non-descript villa in the mountains of Tibet. The Inhumans of Attilan, unlike the boring 'born as humans until Jaiying found them' Inhumans of Agents of SHIELD, have grown up in a city built with alien technology, which has kept itself more or less isolated from human society for centuries (if not millennia). I want the clothes to be different, the architecture to be different, the figures of speech to be different, and some sort of weird accent, to give the impression that they aren't native speakers of American English who grew up watching Happy Days and wearing Nikes and sipping Coca-Cola.
I don't necessarily *expect* that, but I would *like* that. :)

No really, thats a line from the comic.

Update: the seed is rumored to be hidden in Attilan, (giant floating city in space Attilan) but when the Guardians get there, the Inhumans have no idea. They look everywhere to no avail. Then Quill and the Guardians start having visions about Earth, and they go check where Attilan used to be when it was on Earth, and find the Cosmic Seed.
Ronin shows up (he's not dead btw), battle royale.
Thanos shows up, battle royale.
Ronin helps the Guardians against Thanos. Guardians escape in their ship; Quill turns back and tries to fight Thanos with the ship; Ronin powers the tractor beam with his universal weapon; they tow Thanos to space against his will, severing his connection with Earth; his might is too powerful and breaks from the tractor beam to fall back on Earth... in Central Park. Ronin wants to vaporize the Earth to prevent the disease Thanos is generating (big giant purple roots i.e. evil world tree) to spread to other solar systems. Groot uses the remnant of cosmic energy from the Asgardian cosmic seed container to sprout thousands of little Grootlings all across the city. They start sucking at the cosmic seed energy and depower the roots... Quill brings in the Asgardian cosmic seed container close to Thanos to absorb the seed back into it. Thanos loses the seed, gets hit by a subway and gets taken underground by the very evil roots he created. The Guardians leave Earth with the Cosmic Seed.

Inhumans are a hard sell for me. I never liked them in the past, I feel no excitement for them now... The trailer didn't change anything. Maximus feels like a 2nd rate Loki... Black Bolt is typically silent, but now separated from people who'll talk for him? Doesn't feel compelling to me.
I'll watch it the same as I do any of the marvel things.. but I don't have that 'break out hit' feel from this that I do from other shows.
Set |
Not sure it's a break out hit but at least Lockjaw looks better than Medusa and her non-animated hair...
There's been a fair bit of that smoky or blue globe teleportation effect like they used for Nightcrawler in the X-films, or Gordon in the Agents of SHIELD show, so it's cool to see that Lockjaw uses a different effect. The smear was a neat visual.
Otherwise, I'm not seeing much worthy of comment from this trailer.

Yeah, Lockjaw looks good. Not good enough to carry a whole show... but good nonetheless.
I wish they had used that level of detail on the rest. if BB was wearing his mask and fork... or Medusa (who I think looks 'ok') had more hair going on... or just generally more comic accurate all around I may feel better. Lockjaw they seem to have nailed though.

Never a huge Inhumans fan, but I'll give this a try. In terms of visual character design they haven't gone too far afield from what I read in the '70's (Black Bolt being the notable exception...and Medusa's hair should be fuller.)
Having seriously enjoyed five seasons of Hell On Wheels, I am disappointed that Anson Mount has a non-speaking role (despite the consequences of Black Bolt vocalizing.)
Inhumans, Agents of SHIELD, Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Walking Dead, Lucifer, Gotham, iZombie, Preacher, Riverdale, Black Lightning, Cloak & Dagger, Gifted, Krypton...even without Marvel on Netflix or any of the animated series, it's a good time to be a comic geek/TV viewer. A few years ago, having this many comic-based TV series on the air especially at the same time would have seemed less probable than a Trump presidency.
