got to question a minion...

Advice

so we are about to ambush and capture a minion of the BBEG. our GM is being stingy with information. we know that there is 4 or 5 mini bosses this guy being one of them. we also need to know something about the BBEG. we are going into this blind and getting any information out of the DM is like slowly pulling on duck tape stuck to your arm hair painful. what we do know is that this guy has been kidnapping children to be murdered by the butcher to feed to the BBEG(is a storm hag) as fuel for her evil plan or to fuel the storm orb that is filling the sky with thunder clouds. which she uses to kill anyone that tries to get the town. she has the town under her thumb. and the has two kind of elemental birds around her house. one lighting and the other is water based. we have to catch this guy so we can get more information. what kind of questions would you ask a minion before he is executed?

1.)what is the purpose to taking the children?
2.)who are the hags allies?
3.)how how do we get pass the guard birds?
4.)ask about information on each named mini boss?
5.)what are the defenses around the mansion?

i can't think of anymore questions to ask to get anymore information. what or how would you ask for information your trying to interrogate out of a prisoner?

we do not know what we will be facing or how many minions she has we have a vague idea of how many mini bosses there will be but not what they can do. we know that the bbeg has kill tree or four full parties of other heroes and that they had managed to kill off her sisters.

how do you move a thread?

Hit the FLAG button on the right, select "wrong forum," post "flagged for [other forum]" and hope the moderators move it. I don't think you can do it yourself.

alright thank you fuzzy-wuzzy o/

any advice or better questions to ask?

...Exactly how long are you torturing this guy, and why such a short list of questions? Is this a time sensitive ordeal?

If the GM is being stingy, then it's not likely you're actually going to get anything out of this guy before death. This seems like it will strongly depend on the GM's style.

What skills do you guys possess to help? Heal checks will allow you to properly torture your victim, and intimidation is vital. Alternatively, you could probably come up with some sort of Bluff that involves sparing the creature's life in exchange for information, and possibly 'knocking him out' so that the BBEG is tricked into thinking he was loyal to the end. Or just outright Negotiate for his life via diplomacy.

What level are you guys at, and how likely is it that your GM has fabricated his own custom ritual for this scenario?

You could use the spell Interrogation if you don't care about alignment repercussions.

Or one of those boring zone of truth stuff. Negotiate, intimidate checks, etc. As an evil person you could try appealing to them or playing on their weaknesses. Use illusions to place them in a living hell. (Like the spell Vision of Hell or other scary things)

Mechanically that stuff isn't foolproof, but could work based on NPC personality.

Give a Low Templar five minutes...

If the GM is being cooperative, you tell the NPC "Start talking. When you satisfy us, the pain stops." Hurt them whenever they're not talking enough or you think they might be lying. Let them figure out what they need to tell you.

You still insert your prewritten questions eventually, of course, but you don't want immediately to tell them what you do and don't know.

To be completely honest, judging by the how the original poster describes it, it sounds like this GM has either assigned the task of 'what to ask' to the players or just doesn't have a clear grasp of what the minion should know. That, or they've just determined ahead of time that this creature would prefer death to confessions.

Granted, when you're dealing with a witch, hag, or whole coven, they likely have access to Reincarnation, raise dead and similar spells. If their minion talks, it could be Animate Dead instead...

more like anything i ask him has to be worded perfectly.

how long will we interrogate the prisoner?
we want to do it fast as possible the bbeg has the whole town cowed and she has spies that might tell on us.

what skills do we possess?
well i got heal skills. we have a monk with non-lethal fists. and the paladin wants this guys head for what he did to this towns children.

what level are we?
we are level 6.

for this part of the campaign i have been the driving force to get us to this point. we are a party of "good" characters. i am willing to mislead this villain into thinking if he talks he gets to live. the paladin is going to kill this guy no matter what.

getting information about this guy's existence was like pulling teeth with out numbing your jaw first for three 4 hour sessions. or playing mass effect in a foreign language don't know, or with all the options blank. and its your first time playing mass effect.

playing with this DM is like playing a game where you have to type in the right questions but you have no information to base those questions on. and when you think your on to something its not involved at all with the currant arch.

don't you need to have a full corpse to use animate dead?

so just have the monk nonlethal beat the guy and just wait for the information to flow like gravy. and like the joker said "never start with the head it makes the person woozy." and make sure the monk does not go for the face we want the evil kid napper to feel ever punch.

we have a paladin, a monk, a wizard, and an alchemist.

...You have a paladin that wants to outright kill a creature you've captured? Tisk... Not very paladin-like. Not a good sign. And I'd guess he doesn't have touch of truthtelling prepared, either.

At least the heal skill is useful. Or it would be, if you actually had time to torture. Looks like your only option is to go for old fashioned roleplay, and a few well-placed punches. Best hope your bluff is good... Else you're better off just offering him a quicker and less painful death.

First off, the above posts would normally be correct in any game I've played; When a creature is under threat of death, it's basically the GM's job to know what the enemy has to say or is willing to say before the ax drops. It's fairly strange for a creature to be so reluctant;y tight-lipped up 'till the bitter end, but still willing to answer Specific questions.

So... First major questions for You and the group:
Who has the best Knowledge(arcana), Knowledge(religion) or any other Knowledge or Spellcraft checks?

You should be asking the GM first what you know about:
- Storm Hags
- The Birds
- The Orb
- The use of children (pertaining to either hags' diets OR spells/rituals)
- Covens
- This particular fiend that you're trying to interrogate.

As a general guideline of what to ask your prisoner:

-All your questions made in your first post, worded more or less the same.
-Why do you work for and/or support the storm hag?
-How did you first encounter the hag?
- What is the storm hag's main motive and/or purpose here?
- What exactly happened to the previous adventurers? (As many details as you can on this- it sounds like it might be your GM's main hint.)
