Armor with multiple determination enchantments

Rules Questions

Simple question!

What if one would enchant their armor with the determination enchantment twice?

Would that be possible and if so, what would happen?

- A: Both activate when you hit 0 or less hit points
- B: One activates as they cannot stack with each other and the second is saved for the next time.

I'm leaning towards answer A but B could have some truth to it.

What do you guys think?

According to the PRD, the determination special ability is a +5 equivalent special ability. Since the armor must have a +1 enhancement bonus before being given a special ability and the total may not exceed +10, it is not possible to have a twice determined armor.

No, SlimGauge, determination is a flat +30,000 gp.

RAW I don't think you can put the same enchantment on twice. If you could, I'd assume the crafter would make sure The Right Thing happened, i.e. it just becomes a 2/day ability.

The above link actually lists Determination as a +30,000gp cost, not a +5 bonus cost, so it would be possible to stack them, as well as having one on your armor and one on your shield.

As for effect, I'm inclined to say (A). They all trigger at once. (Which could be useful if you were knocked so far negative that one Breath of Life is insufficient.)

Looking at that table more closely, Determination is in the +5 SECTION, but is as Fuzzy-Wuzzy and Saethori point out, a flat-cost addition. Mea culpa.

I would say they both trigger when the trigger condition is met. I don't know why the OP states that they would not stack. Like any other healing effect that can be used repeatedly, you can be healed multiple times by the same spell. The net effect would be a breath of life that heals twice as much damage.

Are there existing examples of a magic item casting more than one spell at once (whether the same spell or not)?

Also, if we can stack this property, can we stack others? Can I have a +1 flaming burst flaming burst flaming scimitar that does +3d6 fire damage in general and +2d10 more on a crit?

There is text specifically stating that you can't have the same special ability on a magic weapon more than once, but for magic armor and shields this restriction is only implied by the fact that the random generation tables say to treat duplicate results as just one copy of the special ability.

Personally, I think the intent is clearly that you can only have a special ability once on a given weapon / armor / shield. The only caveat being that things like 'Dragon Bane' and 'Undead Bane' are considered separate special abilities. Determination does not have any 'sub categories' and thus could only be put on a given item once IMO.

As to having Determination on BOTH armor and a shield... I agree that both would trigger the first time the character was reduced to 0 hp or less.

Well I'm not saying that it won't stack, I'm saying that it might not stack as it activates at the same time and often there are rules regarding things of the same source do not stack. Though this doesn't apply but still something to consider.

Though CBDunkerson is correct, which is also why I'm doubting the fact they can stack.

The rules about "same source doesn't stack" refers to numerical bonuses, not healing spells.

Determination Mithral Bucklers could be a solution if you wanted multiple Determination effects throughout the day. If you have the gold to spare you could get a few and swap them out between combats as needed.
