Can James get the ability to lock his own thread?

Website Feedback

The man deserves a break now and then.

I'm guessing if he (or someone else) periodically locked his thread it would cause more chaos and upheaval then just not answering questions for a few days. :-)

Maybe? He should still be free from feeling like he has to put weekends in for essentially free work.

I'm pretty sure that if he felt that he needed to have his thread locked, he can get it done. He's not only a big boy, he's senior staff at Paizo. I don't think that he wants the technical responsibility of being a forum admin.

If I want a break from the thread, I don't need it to be locked.

James is an adult. If he doesn't want to respond in his off time, I have full faith in him not to do so.

Then, go pet a puppy or something. You seem miserable in there.

James has a cat. Cats are awesome and have mysterious purring powers. Cat's where it's at.

And I don't think James is miserable, he's just honest in that thread, and prefers to give concise answers. Sometimes his abruptness comes across as grumpiness, but I've noticed that James is self-aware enough to know when he needs to step away, and smart enough to actually do so (which makes him a waaaaaay better person than I).

I don't think that the problem is that James is miserable. I think the problem is that his thread is occasionally visited by people who lack tact, empathy, command of English language, social interaction skills or a combination of above. And honestly, any appeals or calls should be directed at such people first. James is going above and beyond in letting people pick his brain, which means he takes in the good with the bad, and I honestly find the opportunity so amazingly cool that even if his answer is "No. Not revealed. Meh. Not a fan." I am insanely grateful for him taking his time to let me know the inner workings of one of the people behind the setting and the game.

And yes, cats > puppies.

I think I can agree with: Cats > Dogs or Kittens > Puppies but Cats > Puppies? That's too close for me to call.

As for the tactless questions sometimes asked of James? Well, THIS, oh and ESL sometimes too I think. But yeah, the talking sack has it about right.

I've barely ever agreed with James Jacobs before now, but this post is perfect.

While I usually agree with James (and most of the Paizo staff), this ^^ is heresy.

Dogs > Puppies >> Cats > Kittens !!!!

Huh. That's weird. I never would have guessed a cats vs. dogs topic would divide people like this. It's almost like I said James Bond was lawful evil and Batman was chaotic good!

Or pointed out that drow rhymes with bow.

Both! Any two words in the English language can rhyme so long as you mispronounce them in just the right way. Ask Dylan.

Shouldn't the original poster's question been asked on James's ASK JAMES JACOBS ALL YOUR QUESTIONS HERE thread? I mean that is the name of the thread. Or are we all just assuming there is only one James with a thread here? I mean could be: Marsters, McAvoy, or Earl Jones has a thread here too?

It could happen.

And for the record toxoplasmosis > cats, but canines as a whole remain- well, top dog.

That is, in fact, the point of the joke. Ha.

I think a people tend to misunderstand the point of the thread. I used to regard it as a thread to ask questions both silly and serious, since it was in the OTD and next to many, many silly threads. Then I learned that jokes are actually discouraged there. It's an important thing to know about the place. :P

More seriously, James pours an astounding amount of time into his "Ask" thread, and the moderation team is *very* cognizant that it will occasionally need nudges to be kept productive and a fun/informational space. If you ever see somebody using it against the spirit of its intended purpose, go ahead and flag the posts or ping us at community@paizo.com to take a closer look.

I could never find guinea pigs cute. Straight up rats always looked cuter to me, and bunnies too. They really just look like earless bunnies.

Totally agree with you except for the cat > puppies comment. I'm a cat = dog person. I'm considered strange by all my friends for that. I'm ok with me though. :)

While I obviously don't have an implicit bias at all (absolutely surely not), they do have ears. These ears may or may not increase maximum wiggling velocity.

Droe, a dreer, a female dreer...

All right, you've won me over. "Maximum wiggling velocity" is just too good a term.

I like whatever that first picture represents. Hound of Tindalos?

I would now like a module where the shrunken adventurers are lost in a peeg of tindalos' non-Euclidean habitrail.
