I"m building an incubus with 10 levels in magus to serve as a bodyguard of sorts for a high-level wizard, and to help alleviate the fact that NPCs have low amounts of gear I'd intended to make him a Bladebound/Kensai. Right now I'm figuring out his feat and spell selections.
With the 10 magus levels he has 7 additional feats to work with (two have to be combat, metamagic, or item crafting); he already has Weapon Focus (scimitar) from being a kensai, and I'm looking at giving him Improved Critical (scimitar) to take advantage of his Pain Redoubled ability. Are there any recommended feats for a Magus to take? And are monsters with class levels able to take traits, or is that something exclusive to PC races?
If it helps, after the adjustments for adding class levels and the extra 2 ability score points, his ability scores are:
Str 24, Dex 17, Con 20, Int 22, Wis 15, Cha 19

1. Arcane strike
2. Weapon Specialization
3. Blind-Fight
4. Cornugon Smash
5. Intimidating Prowess
6. Hurtful
7. Intensified Spell
Skip Improved Critical, he will be able to make his black blade a +5 Keen scimitar as a swift action.
Either put both points into strength or split them between Dex and Wis
Plan on 1 character dying, as the incubus will be damned good at rocket tag and is unlikely to lose the initiative roll.

I'd already put the 2 points into his Intelligence, but I might move them.
Would it be a good idea to trade out his Vital Strike feat for Intimidating Prowess, or should his bonus be high enough between the 18 ranks and the racial bonus?

Put together a real quick statblock for an Incubus bladebound kensai :)
I did not set the skills up yet :(
Idea: incubus is immune to poison. Cast Stinking Cloud on the first round and fill the combat area. Blind-fight will allow you to reroll your miss chance.
Vital Strike should never be used. You have Bladed Dash allowing you to move + full attack.
You can never have too much intimidate. Higher rolls = longer duration, allowing you to spread the love.

I would think that the monster level stats and the abilities that come with it would more than make up for the lesser amount of gear.

If I were to give him gear, it would only be for a 10th level npc (~31,000 gp).
The gear would not be optimized and would probably include a fair number of scrolls, wands and potions.

I myself often (house rule) have a few of theses sitting around so if a failed summoning spell comes up the instead summon something unexpected and often cloaked magically to hide there ID in some way.
So you summon and angle to help but oops, what you get looks like and angel and for a time acts like and angel. And often you are very surprised when you tell it it's services are no longer needed and it sort just laughs and goes on its merry way.

I'd suggest replacing the vital strike (which should pretty much never be used by a magus, as already noted above) with combat reflexes (to combo with the Long-Arm).
I'd also suggest as a custom spell (after all, magi can do spell research to come up with unique spells, and this magus is immortal) some sort of Enlarge Demon spell so that he can hit large size for even greater reach.
Edit: As this guy's pretty much a miniboss in his own right, so might as well make it bonkers.
