Paladin Start to a "Warrior Poet"

Advice

So I started a new campaign as a Paladin of Apsu without much thought into my character. Now we have advanced to Level 2 and I have determined that a "Warrior-Poet" of Apsu is my calling.

My thoughts are Paladin-2/Bard-7/DD-4

or Paladin-2 Straight Bard.

Which do you guys think is the better combination.

The party is a Swashbuckler, Investigator, Arcanist, Barbarian, and Cleric so every role is filled. The adventure has been in Osirion so far

I have given consideration to straight Paladin but the 2 skill points per level are killing me.

noun: skald; plural noun: skalds; noun: scald; plural noun: scalds

(in ancient Scandinavia) a composer and reciter of poems honoring heroes and their deeds.

I'd recommend pure Skald, but I guess the Paladin 2 is already set in stone.

Actually only Paladin-1 is set in stone

Well, Paladins get Divine Grace at 2. If you're in for 1 level, no reason to stop there.

Paladin 2/Skald X. Boost of HP and BAB, Charisma to all saves and Lay on Hands 1+Cha per day. Sounds like a good start.

what do you think of when you say "warrior poet"
Does this mean having bardic performance ability or can other stuff make you feel like a warrior poet?
What are your mental stats, int, wis and cha?

Essentially just a melee capable guy with skills like Perform "Oratory" Knowledge: History etc.

Int: 11, Wis: 8: Cha: 14; Str: 18

Some ties to Apsu of course. Apsu followers are usually wanderers so I kind of had a medieval Jack Reacher vibe going.

Mainly I'm thinking a paladin-2/class-x with a 4 level dip into DD for thematic reasons. So it's really skald/bard/oracle to pair with my Paladin. either Paladin focus afterwards or the caster

If you're interested in DD Might I suggest draconic Bloodrager? it can replace DD or lead into DD. If not needing DD celestial bloodline syncs well with paladin.

If interested more in skills I would go bard with a selfish archetype. Having a weak inspire courage that takes a standard actions seems like an ability you wont actually use. But having archaeologist or busker or even dervish means more use of the ability, even if it's just me getting the bonus.

Trait that gives you perform skill. Play it up in your rp. Done.

When I think of a 'Warrior Poet' I think of someone that writes, but not necessarily performs poetry. Someone who having to face the grim reality of combat turns to poetry as a means to understand and express these complex feelings. William Buttler Yeats is a great real world example.

If that is what you want, the skill would probably be profession: poetry, not perform: oratory. You can be good at writing poetry, without necessarily being a performer.

2 skill points/level says otherwise.

this is good insight

12 int or human, favored class, makes it four. Do it every other level or talk to your gm in order to get a few extra points for to reasons.

You make up for it in RP fun and in character power for being one class.

A few dips into Monk (Unchained or Reg) with Master of Many Styles archetype. Free Unarmed Strike should you find yourself unarmed, you get extra skill points, Perform as a class skill, free style feats of your choice, few other benefits here and there for a couple levels of dip, then focus on Paladin the rest of the way.

Nice thing about MoMS you can take the weapon style feats, so plenty of variety and choices.

Paladin. Just Paladin. Roleplay your poetic nature and put some ranks in Perform(Oratory), Linguistics, or like Dave Justus suggested, Profession(Poet). Maybe make it a point to use Litany spells often.
