OK, first, some background ...
I've had zero interest in these Guardians Of The Galaxy movies. Heck, I'd never even heard of the Guardians Of The Galaxy back when I was reading Marvel comics (admittedly more then 20 years ago). Seeing trailers and clips made me think more of dopey stuff like Howard the Duck than of more "serious" super hero movies.
But, now that they will apparently be in the next Avengers movie, I guess I can't kind of ignore the movies - I guess I might need to see them.
So, here's my question: I used to dig Nova back when I was reading comics. I've been hearing lately that there was some sort of cross over between the Guardians Of The Galaxy and Nova comics at some point, and, more importantly, I've heard that there have been some nods to Nova in these movies. Is this true?
If these Guardians Of The Galaxy movies lead to a cool version of Nova being added to the Marvel cinematic universe, then I might have to warm up to these movies after all
If you generally enjoy the Marvel movies, than you will probably like Guardians...basically Marvel doing space opera. In fact I would rank them in the upper tier of the MCU movies, up with Winter Soldier.
I think we will almost certainly get a Nova movies, and probably in Phase 4 or Phase 5.

Oh man I loved this movie. It was amazing. I cried at the end. And I really rarely cry.
Damn it, don't make me cry with apt comparisons to character growth dealing with poisonous self-hatred.

Yeah Guardians vol2 lived up to it's hype for me, the humor was great again, the music choices were spot on, and the action scenes were a ton of fun.
The amount of Easter eggs and references in the movie are massive. I can't help but think I didn't even catch the half of them.
It's a film I will be seeing again in theaters for sure.
Also does anyone else want to see them go to Rocket's homeworld?

Saw it today. Enjoyed it. Lots of funny. Decent plot. Some great easter eggs.
Not spoiling anything, but I thought the way they handled the during/after credits scenes was pretty good. They had more scenes, but they were spaced out to break up the normal tediousness of the credits.
Although, the credits themselves had some fun going on as well.

Manny,
MCU Drax isn't nearly as tough as Comic Book Drax...
I still have Fleetwood Mac's The Chain stuck in my head...

Just one thing I may have missed.
Spoiler:Why did Ego have to give Quill's mom cancer? I did'nt get how that fit in with Egos planBecause
Spoiler:he was falling in love with her. He says it himself: he went back to heart 3 times for her and knew he would have forgotten about his mission if he went a fourth, so he gave her brain cancer to kill her off and not having to worry about forgetting his mission of "seeding" the galaxy.Pretty twusted but given he's presented as a "celestial" planet eternal thing it works, actually.
My theory:
I think that rubbish, a lie that Ego told Peter. I don't think he cared at all about Peter's mother and he needed Peter to be an orphan so he would have a few emotional ties to earth as possible to make him more pliable for Ego's plans. If Peter hadn't had enough Celestial DNA he would've wound up in the bone pile with all the others.
After Ego had dazzled Peter, he probably thought that the Celestial part of Peter's heritage would open him to willingly join in Ego's plans. He underestimated Peter's Human side and how knowing Ego had effectively killed Peter's mother would cause Peter to turn on Ego in a slit-second. But Ego was pretty well prepared for Peter to refuse his plan. He just sorta said, "Well, that's too bad."

I remember it breaking, but not sure when. I think it got broke during the opening credits fight.

I concur, it was really fast, but the item was shown as broken and ruined at one point several minutes before the climax.

All I know is thanks to this movie, I'm one step closer to having Pip the Troll join the MCU.
Well that and maybe Moondragon...
One of my few quibbles is that Mantis showed up instead of Moondragon. Moondragon as both thought-to-be-dead daughter-of-Drax *and* another of Thanos' kidnapped-and-raised-as-his-personal-assassins 'daughters' would have lent a very different sort of 'family' vibe to the movie, and given Drax some pathos.
Instead we got Mantis, who I never liked in the comics, and didn't much care for in the movie, Drax, and the Nebula-Gamora arc which felt odd, since, in the last movie, Nebula said to Gamora, 'Of all our sisters, I hated you least,' which sort of flies in the face of her comments in this movie,
Then again, Nebula was fun, and I don't begrudge the actress a return, as she was really nailing the role.
The other quibble would be that we saw Howard the Duck again, and not Cosmo (save in the credits headshots). I like the telepathic Russian dog-mo-naut way more than the sarcastic duck. :)

That got me thinking about what must the other silbings have done to her that she hated Gamora least. And who gets the title "Worst Dad of the Century" Thanos or Ego?
Regarding Thanos. That Gamora said after
Charles Scholz |
Despite what it showed, Ego is probably still alive. He was thrown into the sun once, but a small portion was not destroyed and regrew into a full size planet again. Defeat does not always mean death.
Thomas Seitz |
Charles might be right, but I think this is the first time in recent memory that I can recall someone using a nuke to take out his brain.
But regarding how powerful Thanos is in MCU? Probably at least on par if not great than Ego. He and Ego once fought each other in the comics and it was a stalemate.
Also Comics Thanos has already survived the following: an entire reality collapsing on him, the death of the ENTIRE known reality, blown up by at least TWO Phoenix Force powered individuals, Full on contact with an exploding Cosmic Cube...
So even if he's not as tough, MCU Thanos would be...pretty tough at only 20% strength.
As for Moondragon...I wouldn't MIND seeing that but maybe what might happen is Gunn decides to use Adam Warlock to recreate Moondragon and thus we have a kind of father daughter show down in Volume 3.
