The Exchange

Hey, I've looked in the core books for this and found nothing. I've also checked the SRD.

I made a CORE character, here is the link: Sprag Heshune

I can't find anything regarding what homelands or divinity she can have as a CORE character. Or actually, any information on it at all.

Does anyone have any advice on this?

I played my first PFS game at FGCon online, it was We B4 Goblins, so I hadn't made a character yet, I used a pregen. Is there something I need to do to get the game recorded on my file or does the GM do it? He sent me a sheet with some boon info and stuff.

(It was a super fun game and I would love a chance to play the games it is a prequel to.)

Also, another question.

My boyfriend's name is on all the books we own. Some of the stuff for standard play and maybe even core you have to own the books for to use. I mean, do I actually have to buy a second copy of the supplements? That seems ridiculous. We've been together for over 20 years so I think such things can be considered property of both of us.

Gnomes can be from just about anywhere. They're helpful and interesting and they travel a lot. What sort of background do you want for your character?

If a family member, significant other, or other members of the same household living together (such as college room mates) are playing at the same table, they may share the same resources instead of having duplicates of the same resource at the same table. If it is a group of friends that always plays together at the same table, as long as there is at least one sourcebook that covers each rule for every character at the table, it fulfills the requirement. For example, if they all play Chelaxian characters and utilize rules from the Cheliax book, and they are all playing at the same table, then they only need one Cheliax book at the table, and that book can be either physical or an electronic, watermarked copy. However, if they are playing at different tables, each person at a different table will need a physical copy, a PDF copy, or a printed watermarked copy of the relevant pages with them, that covers anything they choose to utilize in the build of their charactert. And if it needs to be clarified, watermarked PDFs may not be distributed electronically by anyone. If two members of the same household wish to share a PDF, and find themselves playing at separate tables, one can utilize an electronic version on an iPad or similar item, while the other utilizes a printed watermarked copy.

So long as you and your boyfriend always game at the same tables, it's no problem for you to have joint ownership of your Paizo materials. My boyfriend and I share materials too.

even that's kind of crummy. I could never play a separate game from my boyfriend at the same time he is playing another game, assuming we were at a con or whatever. Though we are far more likely to be playing together and not separately. We have only recently considered gaming at cons. I went to GenCon the first year WotC took over TSR and haven't been to any actual in person cons since then. Online I only ever played in the FGCon I mentioned one time, and nothing else.

Playing with strangers is new to me, but my in person gaming group is utterly unreliable. One of them now has 5 kids so he is weighed down by a ton of responsibility, one seems to blame his girlfriend any time he doesn't want to play, one just... doesn't always show, and the other wants every character he makes and his RP to be a comedy routine.

I've thought about putting up an ad at the local hobby store, but my social anxiety has me hesitant. Might be better to play online first.

You should probably reread the last sentence of that FAQ entry...

Since you mentioned that your boyfriend's name is on the books, I'm assuming that means your books are in PDF form. As that sentence reads, he can use an electronic copy (on his phone, if need be), and you can use print copies of the relevant pages, enabling the two of you to play separately.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Hey, some thoughts on this...

About two years ago, I followed my boyfriend with some trepidation to a PFS game. I was worried about playing with strangers, and concerned about how rigid the PFS ruleset would turn out to be. I came basically because my in person group was having many of the same issues yours was.

I was utterly pleased by what I found -- a welcoming table, a female GM, and the best teamwork I'd ever experienced. Everyone wanted to be there. Everyone was in character. We had a terrifying scenario, but we came back alive and with both prestige points.

I was hooked.

Amusingly, three of the people from that same game now organize PFS for others. So maybe that's where they got hooked, too.

I hope that you and your boyfriend have a wonderful time. Enjoy your first PFS game!

Spicy D,
Don't sweat the books, even if hardcover.
You rightly are part of a household which owns the books. A GM who presses you on whether the books are at your table or your boyfriend's is a GM to avoid.
Plus, with Core, it's not like there will be esoteric rules you've built your PC around.
Play on. :)

Spicy, I was also serious about the offer to help your gnome figure out where she's from. What sort of background do you want for her? Chances are, we can figure out a Golarian location that would fit.
