Advice for PFS Str based UMonk- Style choice.

Advice

Sovereign Court

I am looking to make a UMonk for PFS. I am trying to decide between Pummeling Style to over come DR or Dragon Style for the Charge abilities.

My plan is to be a primary Unarmed Strike orientated. Not sure on archetype if any to use.

Suggestions would be appreciated

Dragon style is stronger than pummeling for the umonk. DR takes care of itself as you level thanks to ki strike and potions of bless weapon. Dragon Style increases your damage per hit to also help with dr. The main draw of pummeling isn't clustered shots, its pummeling charge. Flying kick covers pounce for umonks though.

That said, Jabbing Style is stronger than both of them, especially once you can start using vicious stomp, medusas wrath, and haste.

Jabbing Master will eventually produce more damage, but only if every attack is against the same target and you aren't missing. Jabbing Master also requires an awful lot more feats; Dragon Ferocity is easily got by 5 with two feats, while getting Jabbing Master takes most of your feats to get by 9. It's a great style, but costly and more situational.

Yeah, biggest strike against Jabbing Master is feat intensity. Biggest pro for it is that it works well with 14/18 Finesse (that is, builds that start off with 14 STR and 16+2 DEX).

I mostly endorse Dragon Style because you have more free feats to play with.

The save bonus from Dragon Style helps too. Everyone complains about the Unchained Monk's Will save.

Charge utilities are pretty neat as well.

5) Iron Will; Style Strike (Leg Sweep)
6) Dazzling Display; +20'

9) Tiger Style; +30'; Improved Evasion; Style Strike (Flying Kick)
10) Medusa's Wrath
11) Retrain Iron Will to Tiger Claws; Tiger Pounce

Unarmed Strikes @ 11th, w/ +1 Amulet, +4 STR belt, +1 Ioun Stone & Tiger PA
+11BAB+7STR+1Magic+1Ioun= +20 for 1d10+13
Sansetsukon Attack @ 11th, w/ +1 Magic, +4 STR belt & Tiger PA:
+11BAB+7STR+1WF+1Magic+1Ioun= +21+21/+21/+16/+11 for 1d10+20

Medusa's Wrath Routine - against a Cornugon Smash's opponent @ 11th level:

+21+21/+21/+16 for 1d10+20
AND
+20/+20/+10 for 1d10+13

Argus, I believe you're taking Iron Will once but retraining it twice (at 7th and 11th).

You are right: I would have to retrain Steadfast personality at 11, instead of Iron Will.

Scaled Fist Will saves suck. I'm not sure if it is worth it to trade +5 Will saves (Iron Will and Stedfast Personality w/ a +2 CHA item) for a +3 bonus to hit (Tiger Style transfers the penalty from attack to AC when you use Power Attack).

Simpler and cleaner IMO w/o the Tiger Style Chain:

1) Weapon Focus: Sansetsukon; Power Attack (Human); Dragon Style (Monk)
2) Intimidating Prowess; Evasion
3) Steadfast Personality; Ki Strike: Magic
4) Ki Power; 1d8 US; +1AC
5) Iron Will; Style Strike (Leg Sweep)
6) Dazzling Display; +20'
7) Shatter Defenses; Retrain Iron Will** to Cornugon Smash; Ki Strike: CI/Silver
8) 1d10 US; +2AC
9) Iron Will; +30'; Improved Evasion; Style Strike (Flying Kick)
10) Medusa's Wrath
11) WF: Unarmed Strike
12) 2d6 US; +40'; +3AC
