I'm working on my 'Ultimate Boss' fight for my current Mythic Campaign, and in doing so I am having some serious writer's block.
My homebrew campaigns all tie into a greater narrative, based on this one @$$#073 necromancer/mythic lich of doom (same bad guy, same players, different campaign from the link) and his plans to become a full-fledged god. Well, go figure he succeeded, kinda sorta.
Narrative:
To explain: Relrere (the once ancient human now pseudo-god) has possessed one of his decedents (once a good-guy NPC) and perverted his view on the world to match his own. His physical body (a tiefling/human base) is a conduit that is fused with beings of other planes (oread dwarf [earth], aquatic elf undine [water], elf sylph [air], gnome ifrit [fire], and a former dhampir PC [negative energy]) and I'm going to use this to actually have him healed by all energy types. Each of these characters were NPCs that the players interacted with at some point over the game. (There was also a bit of accidental time travel involved... it's complicated).
The 'last dungeon' of the game is going to be a total pokemon ripoff and have teleportation traps/mazes which all lead to magical triggers that all require a use of mythic power to deactivate. Stealing from Dragonball Z this power is going to be pumped into my bad guy (Buu style).
They actually saved and redeemed the Darth Vader analogue who has joined the party so they have an extra player in the mix (an 18th level tempered champion paladin/VMC fighter). Their goals now are to stop Relrere from destroying the world, and to travel in space to find a Great Wyrm Time dragon, then convince said time dragon (most likely via social combat) to take them back in time to before their time warp (Ocarina of Time/Skyward Sword style) to then go back to the mythic lich's phylactery (which they discovered on the damn moon) fight it's guardian (a mortal herald/moon god avatar Lunar Dragon), destroy it and then defeat and destroy the lich for good. As a bonus epilogue fight I actually want to throw the lich at them when they are 20th level.
I'm having a hard time landing on how I want this guy to work mechanically. I'm thinking about morphing together the chassis for an epic gold/red dragon (30ish HD/ full BAB/ full sorcerer spellcasting progression with access to the cleric list) and giving it some of these traits here.
But I need a build, and I have no idea how I want to derive stats. He'll be medium sized, and I'll want to give him a weapon. Something thematic and cool, most likely two-handed. I may steal some Mythic Path abilities for him (like Enduring Armor).
Upon fighting him, they can expect to be 19th level/8th tier, and have ridiculous stats and wealth (factoring into APL for around 30-34).
Important abilities: Dual Initiative (single boss needs action economy), energy healing/immunity, and dumb high AC (forcing players to spend resources on hitting touch instead of normal AC, they can do it trust me).
Important House rules: Marshmallow's Revised Revised Action Economy; rules for Dueling Counters incorporated into the regular counterspelling mechanics (for use with the reaction rather than a readied action); and narrative based leveling, so I'm not concerned about XP values or WBL at this point, so I can go nuts with this guy.
HELP!!!!!!
The party:
- Guy Fier (spin on Guy Fieri, profession cook/ create food and water for lolz) N versatile bad touch human cleric/heirphant (raised by dwarves) VMC cavalier (Defense/Tactics Subdomains; Order of the Stars) who worships
Not Toragand uses Channel Smite and Blessed Hammer. He's basically the new way to do clericzilla - Davek Chester (player's name is Dave, we thought it's be funny) LG tiefling (human based, meticulous/aspergers to explain his high INT and low CHA) grenadier alchemist/tickster who uses alchemical splash weapons to great effect (been problematic for my encounters tbh) he also happens to have done the mummy thing that alchemists do to make himself immune/resistant to stuff
- Elthar (spends a lot of time in a human disguise, wants to see the elf race prosper) CNish elf Sage Sorcerer VMC void wizard/archemage (with some tweaks) who has a great level of versatility, including being able to cast an Idealized Mythic Transformation along with Mythic Form of the Dragon which turns him into a monster. He can also do it to his familiar so I have to deal with 2 monsters. I think he's gonna take Quicken SLA on Time Stutter just to see if he can make me cry (he can't)
- Stratton, the
SilverPlatinum Spoon Master (his character switched up a lot, meant to be ironicly bad at the spoons since his main performs were oratory and comedy) CG half-elf Duettist Bard/marshal with a Tidepool Dragon familiar, he's all party support and I house rule his stuff to work so he can end up with 6 simultaneous performances going (duettist familar with share spells plus virtuoso performance twice plus shadow bard twice) He pumps the party's numbers to be quite ridiculous - Volmar Ebberold (veteran player of 3.5, never got to play psionics because of his old group so I let him have fun with it) LG human Gifted Blade 'jedi' Soulknife/champion. He's the damage guy, he can throw his two-handed mind blade for ranged sword beams and uses a crystal hilt that his 'order' trained him to make himself as part of becoming a master. A bit unispired, but he has fun with it. Stacks dodge bonuses dumb high for an AC approaching 70 (narrative-wise he flips around and stuff, and his custom mini looks like Obi Wan wearing blue)
- Ashton Ralderac (my 'main character' NPC who has been involved in a lot of adventures mostly as a facilitator, but sometimes also takes part in combat) LG human tempered champion paladin/VMC fighter (advanced weapon and armor training)/guardian. He's a tank, plain and simple. Highest sitting AC I've ever seen, and oodles upon oodles of HP. The main third act of the plot had him turn into a Tyrant Antipaladin corrupted by a devil. The party went to hell, defeated the Duke of Hell that had his artifact scimitar and returned it to him releasing him of his corruption (from horror adventures)
