Rule Clarification on Overwhelm Teamwork Feat

Does this feat allow flanking with ranged attacks?

You can be a flank buddy if you have a ranged attack that actually threatens (a la Snap Shot) but you can only get a flanking bonus with a melee attack. See Pathfinder Design Team post.

99% of the time, yes. But in those cases, all the prereqs to be flanking (positioning, threatening) also include having a melee weapon - without which, you're still not considered to be flanking. But this feats skips EVERYTHING and straight up says "you're considered flanking - the only requirement is that you have an ally threatening the target, which must be at least 2 size categories larger than the larger of you or the ally." The weapon you're using, your positioning, whether or not YOU'RE threatening aren't factors. This feat simply gives you flanking.

I really should have gone to the Gang Up FAQ itself, sorry.

Gang Up: Does this feat (page 161) allow you to flank a foe with ranged weapons?

The Gang Up feat allows you to count as flanking so long as two of your allies are threatening your opponent. The feat makes no mention of ranged attacks being included, and since flanking specifically refers to melee attacks, ranged attacks do not benefit from this feat. (JMB, 8/13/10)

Since the Overwhelm feat also makes no mention of ranged attacks being included, and since flanking still specifically refers to melee attacks, ranged attacks do not benefit from the feat.

Both feats are poorly worded IMHO.

I see. Thanks for the clarification.
