Welcome all to the presumably FINAL book in the Kineticists of Porphyra line. Since we're ending it off, we wanted to do it with a bang, giving you the people the chance to look under the hood and see how things are going to work before they come out. You can comment on the doc or leave comments in the thread, but either way, I'd like to invite you all to help us give this wonderful series the best send off we could possibly ever have!

So for an aberrant kineticist to benefit from more than 4 points into their elemental overflow (say for the level 11 size bonus) they would need to kill their malign manifestation, take burn, then resummon it for 3 more burn?
Or is "giving your manifestation influence over you" supposed to be optional in some sense? How does taking lethal damage to reduce burn interact with elemental overflow?

What they can do here is accept lethal damage to get up to 5 burn, since accepting lethal damage removes a point of influence. Basically, eventually you'll have to accept lethal damage, although this is a good point for possibly raising the amount of possession needed to hit that threshold.

My excitement can't be contained to see whats next in the tank.
Lets see what we have here, so on the first read over...
out of the archetypes on call, the Energy Roper intrigues me. maybe I love Grapple checks a bit much or something, but it does appeal and based on this pass it looks like it'll do quite well in that field. I mean as a castlevania fan whip like stuff intrigues, and making a "whip" out of acid, or BONE and lassoing someone is awesome in itself. Grappling utilities feat access looks nice, though im not sure how often id employ it yet. some of the Roper Talents put a smile on my face. like Natural Grappler (i thought of a Frog for some reason.) seems like i could also just whip it good if i wanted. sweet.
of the new composite blasts, Afterburn immediately stood out. without mind element stuff (LK 2 maybe?) i find myself soldily in Air, Time, Sound and Fire, so this blast was a surprise. so its more expensive but harder to dodge than blue flame, plus leaves a trail- cool! I enjoy how a lot of these are more expensive then the standard composites, but have little stitched on tricks like flashbang and Prismatic.
the realization just occured to me i can mimic swat 4 with a misaimed flashbang blast... hehehe!
over in Infusions, modified bloody and especially flurry of blasts made me happy to see. maxed out flurry reminded me of all the Dragon Ball Z abriged ive been watching. I assume being hasted with greater flurry creates 3 more bits to the light show? not sure when id use it, but I'd be lying if i said i didn't picture a fire kineticist lobbing tons of shots.
in the utility talents, first of all- thank you. Airs Overarching Reach made me giddy. if anything for any future kinetic shinobi or gestalt I build with throwing as a key piece of it's puzzle. Complete Circuit seems interesting, but... it didn't catch me as much as sonic/building reverberation. in both cases, i like Simple versatility, since i err with physical blasts usually. Fire Explosive fury? not bad when you REALLY have to push it, though im unsure.
But for some reason I'm most giddy about time specifically. between Failsafe, the Time Echo series, and most importantly for me, Focused Celerity. Air and time always stood out because of celerity and kinetic acceleration- but with this i can self buff it AND dig out kinetic Accel? Yowza! while i haven't looked into it yet, im sure their also some great boons in the Advanced Kinesis... but im still stunted on magic understanding, so ill leave that for someone else to pick over.
Mutations- Arrow Mutation seems Really good. and yet im wary about taking it. good sign of a mutation? Furyshaper Mutation sounds intriguing, if anything to set peoples blood on fire, but im not sure id go down that road. sadly, nope on the Utilitarian. just not my style.
FEATS- oh boy!one of the things I love in books is when I find a little gem for another class I like that I didn't expect to see. Legendary Vigilante's handed me a bit of unarmed combat in feat and items. this one- bomb stuff. the time bomb and remnant feat series each have a little something for that "haha, i set you up!" type of person. although.. parties gonna probably not like ya for dropping caltrops about the place. but its worth it to hear an enemy jab themselves on some sometimes. The kinetic Grapple series here is also a solid help- plus kinetic coils is amusing in a sense...
But. Mutable composition. it's so simple but its one of my favorite things in this book. im a hardnose for physical damages because of one day my first little alchemist hopped up on acid and fire got jumped by dretches and didn't have the proper back up... plus the party got clouded and i was the only one standing able to fight. oopsie. This one feat makes me happier just because if i make my checks and know the target is immune to electricity while im on an Air kineticist for example, i can still shift the strength on the Thunderstorm blast towards its blunt end, and put more pain on them that way, while ALSO being able to put even MORE pain to vulnerable targets. it just makes so many of that particular type of blast more viable to me. Thank you so much for that.
and the magic items. Pressuring seems interesting, but i don't have a lot to say about it. the Disc of Rainbow tears sounds relatively interesting, but it seems like that ones better for the Elemental Avatars and dual energy ones. i don't know if its better than gathering power for me... how much damage would that add? its interesting either way. and the Ring of Condensing explosions. HEHEHEE. so it provides a great feat for the splash weapon folks out there, specifically to the folks who can't normally use that feat, a few times per day unless it's the specific model, which then works a great number of times. I'M IN!
I really like some of the things I'm seeing here. didn't specifically blow the socks off for me like the Armory in KOP 2, or the unveiling of brand new elements over the first 2 books, but its a worthy addition to the collection in my eyes, and definitely adds some nice stuff to swipe.
*swipes the ring of condensing explosions, runs off cackling*

I'm almost tempted to make the Wide Array feat selectable more than once or replace Favored Focus by learning the other two arrays :P
An entropist with all 12 elements... has to roll a D12... and a D3 for the Array Blast... ouch XD
Still... the Elemental Scion was for only one element, the Elemental Avatar was for 4 elements... the Entropist is also 4 elements. I feel like the Entropist can be further differenciate from the Avatar if he could learn all 3 arrays, albeit having more resources to manage.

That's actually a really cool idea. Probably not something that could make it into this book, but I'll see what we can do to get it into KoP:C if there's room. No guarantees, though.

But then there is something called "balance" that needs to be considered XD
A kineticist that have access to all 12 elements is gonna be OP in no time. Even with all preparations, planning and such, that's still quite the powerhouse.
My idea is this:
- Favored Focus is replaced with Expanded Array, which like Expanded Element, you either pick your primary array or another array. Pick another array gives you 4 other elements, you're now using a D8 and everything that goes with it. At 15th level, you can again pick your primary array or the 3rd array, now using a D12.
- Picking your primary array a 1st time gives you all composite blasts from your regular elements (Thunderstorm, Ice, Blue Flame and Metal) without giving you access to the combination blasts. The idea is that your primary array is getting stronger.
- Picking your primary array a 2nd time gives you all combination blasts (composite blasts being made of two elements). The idea is that at this point, you've mastered your array, to the point that you can mix and match elements. In addition, if your elements have 2 blasts, you gain the 2nd one: Air gets Electric, Water gets Cold, Sound gets Vibration, etc.
- Picking a secondary or tertiary array would just give you simple blasts and talents. You trade damage output for versatility. You would NOT have access to composite blasts at all, as a trade-off.
- Array Blast could cost 4 additional Burn points to add a 2nd array and then another 4 Burn points to add the 3rd array. Yes, I'm going this far... because if we can have the Omnicide, we can have a blast that can... burn you out XD
On a sidenote, for both the Entropist and Twice-Born Repenter, it would be good to have a small paragraph about alignment changes, like the Paladin.

I was actually thinking that you just get as many shuffling elements as a normal kineticist would get elements overall, treating one of your choice as your primary and the other one/two elements as expanded. This is already removing the bonuses you normally get from favored focus and makes it less complicated and easier to word for. However, you'd pay a price in that you get less wild talents per day and your array blast is weaker.
Also, I didn't include that text for entropists who slip into Lawful territory only because of word count issues, something we're already going to be struggling with again once the playtest is done and we're making our final edits. I do need to include some atonement text for entropist, though they have a broader range of alignments they can be than a TBR does. The main reason I included it for TBR at all was because I wanted to include some conduct rules for them.

While I won't be an active participant in the playtest, I'll keep my eyes on both the thread and the playtest doc itself in case there's any questions or concerns I can possibly clear up. Also, expect a bonus sample character to drop here soon~
Suuuuuuuure you won't.
I'm trying to stay on the doc where I can, but I'm glad to see people are enjoying things thus far. I feel like with KOP 4, we went to a far more 'strange' place with than with the others. KOP 1 was about fleshing out the class, KOP 2 was about making it our own, KOP 3 was about refining it, and KOP 4 has mostly been about having fun with our content. We've made 5 whole elements, why not enjoy them?
I know there's been some people worried about this being the last thing Team KOP writes for the kineticist, and let me tell you, if there's some new Paizo element or supplement that comes out that completely changes the class or something like that, you will see me making content for it. I'm up for working with the team to tool around with any new element Paizo may create, and I look forward to the chance.

Shush you, I meant I wasn't gonna jump into an actual campaign with this content to playtest, not that I'm not gonna be reviewing and commenting when and where needed. :P
But yeah, I agree, but somehow I don't think Paizo's too keen to release a lot of kineticist stuff aside from tossing them the every-so-rare bone (like the elemental whisper talents and the Draconic Heritage feat). It would be an interesting challenge though, I'll admit.

You know, I'm actually shocked Onyx didn't post this here, but they made a sample character for another of the playtest characters if anyone wants to check it out, get a good vibe for more of the content.
The playtest is finishing up its second week, we'll be keeping it going for another week or two depending on what people think, but I'm feeling pretty good about how things are going thus far. This has been a real fun series on which to work, it's helped me make a ton of friends and associates, and I really am glad to have been able to work on something that's been this well received.

I've been leaving a few comments on the playtest doc, but haven't actually had a chance to try anything out in an actual game. I just wanted to say how cool this round of material is, though. I love the flavor of the aberrant kineticist, the variety of new composite blasts, and the even more terrifying viscera talents, but I'm definitely going to play an energy roper if my gm ever manages to kill my current vanilla telekineticist, because it just looks like it'll be really fun to play.

Good to see some "fourthful" free kineticist playtest stuff. ;)
I'm glad we ran a playtest on this one, there's been quite a bit of good feedback we've gotten. I'm wondering if it should run for another week or two, but I'll probably lean towards two just to give me more time to fine tune things.

Thanks for putting him up. I was actually delaying it until I had time to stat up some allies for him, but they'll probably be coming too late to be of much use in a game, if I get arund to it at all. :|
That said, I also did up a sample character for the Twice-Born Repenter. I don't have any boons or strats for him, but he's built with a block for 5th, 10th, and 15th levels to represent his progression from a fledgling boney up to a full-powered skeletal blight on the undead. The doc also includes how I built him up from 1st to 20th level. Also note that I used the version presented in Monstrous Races: The Third Party since they feature a Wisdom bonus rather than Dex, so a few scores might change if you want to stay true to the Alluria version. I kinda had to assume his creature type since neither the PFSRD nor the PDG book gave it, though I think monstrous humanoid is a pretty safe bet here.

I'd like to thank everyone who participated in the playtest, but now it is officially over! We;re going to take all the suggestions within, do some fine tuning, and turn this one over. Thanks to everyone who helped with this project, it was a lot of fun and I'm glad we had a playtest for this!
Congrats on the completion of this project.

The document is through layout and is sitting in people's email boxes waiting for final edits. It has been sitting in email boxes since Boxing Day.
Sorry, I've been REALLY sick almost the entire holiday, and I couldn't really move these past two days, so I'm letting Onyx do final checks here before sending them to you since they've been a lot more involved in things. Don't be shocked if Onyx pitches you a solo book idea (like I've been telling them to do for a while now).

Speaking of which, I literally just finished going through it and emailed whatever incredibly-miniscule syntax errors I found. As for that pitch Ehn mentions, I'm still adding things to it, so it might not be soon soon, but it could be soon. And - shock and awe - it has very little to do with kineticists!
