Help Creating a Background

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

So I really hate being that guy, so I'd like to empthasize I dont want a particulary detailed one at all, I'd just like to be poked in the correct direction.
I've got my first Pathfinder game coming up soon, and I'm trying to create a character.
However I have no experiance with the world, the factions, the map or anything. And my character just isn't clicking, if you know what I mean.

I'm currently going for a human fighter, ex-military. Can anyone think of a general background that would fit this?
I was contemplating a Paladin, as in Warhammer Fantasy warrior priests are my jam, but I'm not familiar with Pathfinders gods and I'm pretty sure there is no Sigmar [or equivalent]

this guy ^ has been my inspiration for the character.

Thanks for any help, Kiro

Aroden seems to be a fairly close parallel to Sigmar -- I found a picture of him with the title "God-Emperor of Mankind". That would be Aroden.

The main problem, of course, is that Aroden has been dead for over a century in the standard Golarion timeline. His "Inheritor" is the goddess Iomedae, another ascended mortal who became a god.

So that brings us to the question of what features of Sigmar you want to preserve. Torag has the right favored weapon (a warhammer) but is very different in most other ways. Iomedae is a better match but has a different favored weapon (the longsword).

that would certainly be the warrior-god aspect of him above all. with the enemy-of-the-dark being up there as well.

the warhammer thing doesnt bother me at all :)

EDIT: Just looked up Iomedae, and she seems perfect :)
so that means im now heavily leaning towards a Paladin character. Any idea for backstories? I'll sleep on the idea for tonight
thanks

Look up Mendev, Lastwall, The Worldwound as possible places for a crusading paladin type to come from. (pathfinderwiki.com)

Or check out Cheliax if you want a more conflicted background. (Currently reading the novel Hellknight which has a staunchly Iomedean paladin crusader returning the take over his crumbling noble house in Cheliax, a strictly lawful tiefling hellknight struggling with her non-humanity and a certain diabolist débauched noble woman in love with the paladin for protagonists. Good reading...)

Thanks guys I reckon I've got something :)
Son of a farm boy, beaten for enjoying being a farmer, fled to join the temple of Iomeda.
Your advice led me there in the end, so thanks again :)
