Hi all!
I wrote an initiative tracker app for our group and think it works well enough so that others might like it. There are lot of great options available already, like the grande Combat Manager, but my tracker (just "init" for now) has a different approach:
- init is aimed for use with smartphones and tablets
- Combat Manager et al include and automate a lot of rules for you, init is rule free and fudgeable. It only implements initative.
- Combat Manager et al is controlled and vieweable by the GM, init is a web application and the session is accessed and controlled by everyone simultaneously.
Features:
- add your initiative and either roll a die or have the app roll it for you
- add effects (or events, or whatnots) with a game round counter
- remembers the player in the current browser for easier adding in a next combat
- drag character up or down for "delay" actions or whatever other reason
- swipe entries left or right to delete them
- click the "round" button on top to only show the initiative that is currently up
- friendly beeps if the initiative changes while another browser tab is active (also known as "the facebook beep" for multiple reasons..)
- seperate session rooms (note the URL when running a session!)
It resembles the combat pad in a way. I have an open instance running (http://init.threenorns.com) but the code and manual (and screenshot) are up on github for you to run your own, if you want. Free as in speech.
Some caveats:
- Sessions are not persisted over server restarts, so don't expect open sessions on my instance to survive for the week. I'll add a database if the app sees usage.
- All effects count at the beginning of each turn. I'm looking for some suggestion for GUI mechanics on how to keep the open aspect but still link effects to players. Help?
- I need a name for the app.
