Hi Folks,
im pretty new to Pathfinder (never Played anything D&D related) so im not sure if i get all this class Features right.
What i want to do is, build a Half-Orc Ranger, beeing combat-able in Ranged and Melee Combat (i know he wont be a real Fighter but i want him to be a tough orc)
Now i read the Feral Hunter Ability Feral Focus and fell in Love with it.
So here´s my Problem. I dont Need the shapeshifting and Magic Abilitys of the Feral Hunter, i just want the Feral Focus.
Is it badly stupid to take first Level Feral Hunter and then Switch to Ranger Class ? I think he is the better Fighter and i like his Traits (Feats, Talents, etc.) more)
I loose the upgrade of Feral Focus on higher Levels, right ? It depends on the HUNTER Level not on the Character Level, right ?
Do i loose the Ranger Companion due to the Feral Hunter beeing companion-less ?
Do i Forget something else important ?
The main Opinion in my Group is that multiclassing is stupid because they are always weaker then straight classes .. is this true and really important ?
Thanks in Advance
Jolly aka Wettra the Half-Orc Ranger

I think a 1-level dip in Feral Hunter on a Ranger will be fun and effective. Infinite Feral Focus alone is worth the dip, IMO, but you also get several at will Orisons and a couple first level spells which can come in handy. The Feral Focus will never improve because you aren't raising your hunter level, but you will still get your ranger companion when you hit 4th level as a Ranger. I say ignore the naysayers and go for it.

As far as your animal companion, you do not lose it, you just lose that level dip for advancement. Rangers normally suffer a weaker companion (Ranger level -3). The Boon Companion feat would increase the power of your friend by 4 levels not to exceed your total character level.
So if you were Ranger 6/Feral Hunter 1, your companion would be calculated by your effective druid level 3. Boon Companion would maker your effective druid level +4 to 7 (3+4=7) which does not exceed your character level which is 7, making your animal companion as strong as a 7th level Druid's. ;)
There is also a feat you should look into called Stalker's Focus. Not unlimited but prevents the need to dip into Hunter.
