Should there be more options for stat split characters, and multiclass characters?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I remember toward the end of the 3.5 Era, WotC started producing feats that synergized certain classes, often rewarding a player for splitting his leveling between two classes by helping improve one particular facet of the character by stacking the levels of two of more classes to improve one particular class feature.

Like Monk and Sorcerer, and having a feat that allowed your to calculate your unarmed damage based on levels in both classes, and or using your cha modifier in place of your wis modifier for monk abilities.

Should Paizo consider options like these? Are there some out there im not aware of?

I was making a character who was pretty split between Str and Dex, as his primary offensive stats. He used a melee weapon but could obviously pick up a ranged weapon given his dex was equal to his str, but then i started to realize offensively that kind of hindered the character doesn't it? The points spent on getting a equal high dex could have been spent on improving Str or vice versa.. It'd be nice if there was some compromise that could be made for such characters.

For combination feats: Shapeshifting hunter for ranger/druid

For your str/dex character. the Vigilante's Lethal Grace would be effective.

Yeah, Paizo tends towards Class Features for this rather than Feats. There's an Archetype to make Monk Charisma based, and another to make Sorcerer Wisdom based, just for the Sorcerer/Monk example.

Or a Prestige Class for Paladin/Monks (not stackable with the above archetype for balance reasons).

I see.. i wasn't aware of such options..

The main reason there aren't an abundance of these "options" is they outright stated part of their design goals was to incentivize single class progression through out the entirety of a character's career in the creation of PFRPG. In 3.5 there were so many options that were plain out better or attractive enough that "jumping ship" from one class into another/PRC was pretty much mandatory.

The Charisma based Monk, Scaled Fist, is very new. It's with the new Legacy of Dragons splatbook. Works for both regular and unchained monk, though!

There is the Mad Magic feat that allows you to cast spells while raging. This allows a barbarian or bloodrager to use abilities from different classes together.

I do wish they would come out with a feat that was a better version of the magical knack trait. Make it so multiclassing spell casters isn't quite as miserable an option by allowing some advancement of caster level. There is room to allow multiclassing without making it superior to single class characters. Besides, the current method of denying capstone powers isn't that effective since most campaigns never reach those levels.

That is what house rules are for, adding things into the game the developers aren't interested in.

There are several feats that explicitly support multiclassing. Two more that have not yet been mentioned are Monastic Legacy (lets half of your non-Monk levels stack with your Monk levels for damage) and Crusader's Flurry (lets a character who can channel use a Monk's Flurry with his deity's favored weapon). I also read that the upcoming Player Companion Paths of the Righteous will contain feats that will enhance prestige classes -- I have no idea whether or not they might also support multiclassing between base classes.
