potion of focus damiel

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

I posted a question awhile back on how stat stones worked, thus found out that, they just replace the die, not the skill, so a fortitude check would still use the fortitude bonus, even if I changed the die, and this was proven to me by the fact I was told it would say skill, instead of die, so when I read potion of focus, I am confused on if it saying banish to add intelligence or craft skill... if it means just the plus bonus, like for damiel it would be a craft +3 , or if it means I would add the d10 for my intelligence, plus my craft +3, basically is this an amazing stat stone for damiel, or is it just for a tiny bonus?

It's amazing.

RULES: SKILLS, DICE, AND MODIFIERS

If your character card says “Strength d10,” and the “+1” box next to that has been checked, your Strength skill is d10+1, and your Strength die is d10. (The “+1” is called a “modifier.”) If your character card also says “Melee: Strength +3,” your Melee skill is d10+4, your Melee die is d10, and the modifier is +4.

A skill includes the die and bonuses.

If the card says something like "Banish this card to add your Intelligence or Craft skill to your check" then you add the skill including all modifiers. It does not change the type of check (as it is not played during the "Determine Which Skill You're Using" step), but adding a skill adds all modifiers relevant to that skill.

For example, let's say Class Deck Damiel is making a non-combat Constitution 14 check. He has a potion which reads "Banish this card to add your Intelligence or Craft skill to your non-combat check." He also has another potion in his hand in addition to that one.

Damiel's Constitution die is a d6, and let's say he does not have any skill feats in it. He has the power feat "You may discard a card that has the Alchemical trait (☐ or any 2 cards) to add your Intelligence skill to your Dexterity combat check (☑ or your Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution non-combat check)." checked, and he has 1 skill feat in Intelligence (along with an Intelligence die of d10).

Damiel can recharge the potion (his banishes turn into recharges for cards with the Alchemical trait, which potions have) to add his Craft skill to the check, or 1d10+4. He can then use his character power to discard his other potion to add his Intelligence skill, or 1d10+1. Both powers can be used on the check because only the first counted as playing an item -- discarding an item for some other power does not count as playing it. As can be seen, there is also nothing stopping you from adding the same skill (or similar skill) to the check multiple times.

The check is a Constitution check only, it does not gain the Intelligence or Craft traits, so blessings that add 2 dice to Intelligence checks or Craft checks do not do anything special to this check.

In total with both of those powers used, Damiel will be rolling 1d6 + 2d10 + 5 on his Constitution check.
