Raise Dead on a PC, is it done at the mission's end of earlier?

I could not find a concrete answer to my problem.

The case:

The cavalier & his mount died.
He says he has enough resources to get himself be subjected to a raise dead, though the team might have enough between them for it.

In the guide it is said it can be done in a large enough city, which i imagine a capital surely counts as. (They are in Katheer)

Is the raise dead done/resolved at the end of the mission, or can it be done at any time during this mission?

Thanks in advance.

It can be done during the mission.

My understanding is that they would not yet have the resources from the mission (gold and PP), but if they have enough without that there is no reason to deny a raise dead during the mission.

They still have the limit on Restoration, you can only do one per week.

You can do so as soon as you can get to a spellcaster capable of casting it; the availability of such a spellcaster outside of a settlement of 5k+ people is subject to GM discretion, and whether that spellcaster prepared that spell that day is, as well. Katheer has a population of 132k, so per the Guide it can be assumed that such a spellcaster can be found with the spell prepared, so they should be good to go for the raise.

As to resources found during the mission, my search-fu is weak at the moment, but Mike Brock, the former campaign coordinator, had ruled that players may use any resources they find during the course of the adventure as soon as they earn them, including prestige. That means if completing the primary objective gives the character just enough prestige to pay for the raise, they can spend it just as soon as they can get somewhere to get it cast.

And BretI is spot on an the restoration; the spell states that it can only remove one negative level per week, so the other would have to be removed between sessions (or during/after later sessions).

If you have to get raised+restored during a scenario and get bummed by the wait for the second restoration, try Soul Stimulant to mitigate the effects of the remaining negative level long enough to complete the mission.

Or get a bard that can Inspire them to Greatness as a short-term fix, as well.

Well the team's lvl 5.

The raise dead will have to come from money, as even with PP from completing it, he doesn't have the 16 PP required.

Do you have a link to that?

The Season 8 Guide says that you cannot sell equipment found during the scenario but that you can use Chronicle rewards that you have earned which is a rather fuzzy way of putting it.

Players are encouraged to share their physical resources in order to resolve any and all conditions. They may not pool Prestige Points, even if they’re from the same faction. Characters can also sell off gear, including the dead character’s gear, at 50% of its listed value to raise money to purchase a spell that will resolve the condition, though they can only do so in a settlement and they cannot sell off any items found during the current adventure that they haven’t purchased. Characters can use the rewards from the Chronicle sheet they earned in order to resolve any conditions. Characters who die during an adventure and are raised receive full XP for that adventure, as long as

they completed at least three encounters.

You can always try to find any spellcasting services during an adventure. However do keep the fact that finding the right place and then getting the spell cast may take significant time. Not sure what scenario they are playing and if it will matter.

As for Katheer:
Population - 132,450 (Inner Sea World Guide)
Per the GameMatery Guide that makes it a metropolis, and a metropolis has spells available of up to 8th level. So no problem buying a raise dead. Might I suggest one of the many fine temples to Sarenrae?

If he's spending prestige, no problem there either. Even if the town is less than 5,000 people the GM can allow it to be done with prestige, though it costs 5 prestige extra (Guide to Organized Play)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I would have to check, but my recollection is that there is language in the guide instructing GMs that if a player has the resources to get raised to find a way to expedite it as fast as possible so that they miss a minimum of game time.
