Paladins, and the Order of the Godclaw: [PFS]

Hey!

I was wondering if it would be legal in PFS to play a Paladin that worshiped the Godclaw, rather than just one of the five deities incorporated into the Godclaw.

Thoughts?

I think technically you only get a single deity, but I think that's just for divine casters so they can't get domains from multiple gods. If you don't get divine spells you should be fine. Paladins probably need to pick one to get spells from, but no reason you can't say Godclaw when asked.

Clerics, inquisitors, paladins, cavaliers of the order of the star, and samurai of the order of the star must choose a deity as all classes in Golarion that receive spells and abilities from a specific divine source receive their powers from a deity. Druids, oracles, and rangers are the exception to this rule. The list is not exhaustive, and divine spellcasters of any future classes whose sources are added as additional resources to the Pathfinder Society Organized Play campaign will be required to choose a deity unless otherwise specified. Otherwise, characters who do not receive powers from a divine source may choose to be atheists or to have no deity at all.

Now, nothing's gonna stop you from writing down Iomadae on your character sheet, and then proclaiming yourself a member of the Order of the Godclaw.

The important thing to remember, however, is that you can only ever receive mechanical benefit (religion-specific traits, feats, spells, equipment, and so on) from one deity.

There is the Order Obedience feat from Path of the Hellknight, it has a specific devotion for the Godclaw, so there is at least one feat chain that gives a mechanical effect from the entire Godclaw.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Just tell them that you worship Rovagug and when they question your intentions raise a lead sheet and claim they're suppressing your culture.

"... Additionally, if you cast divine spells, you can use the holy symbols of Abadar, Asmodeus, Iomedae, Irori, and Torag interchangeably."

That is part of just the basic bonus for doing the Reckoning for the Order of the Godclaw. After looking at the wording on page 9 you might not even need the feat to gain it oddly. Either way mechanically that would cover many of the issues.

Nope, that's not legal for PFS. Divine casters, including Paladins, must choose a legal deity to worship. So he would have to worship one of the LG or LN deities that the Order of the Godclaw respects, he cannot be a generalist.

Akerlof is correct. Now, there's nothing stopping you from putting one of the Godclaw deities on your sheet and then simply declaring that you venerate all of them. But you have to pick one deity you follow more closely than the others, whose religion you would consider yourself a member (for spells/effects that care about such), and whose holy symbol provides your divine focus.
