Prepared Metamagic spells if you lose the feat

Can I still cast a spell prepared with a metamagic feat if I later lose the feat?

Say I cast an extended Paragon Surge to give me Quicken Spell long enough to prepare Quickened Magic Missile. Is there any clarification on whether I can still cast it?

You need to keep the feat to actually cast the spell.

Preparing and casting a spell in such a way is harder than normal but, thanks to metamagic feats, is at least possible.

Wraithstrike, what is your source? You didn't exactly specify.

Markov, I would suppose whether you (or your GM) think the metamagic feat is used during casting, or during prep. Generally, the game's flavor indicates that a wizard does most of the work during spell prep, and simply needs to release the magic with a few simple triggers when he casts.

The fact that spontaneous casters need to spend more time casting when using metamagic--and the fact that identifying the spell does not change in difficult when metamagic is used--leads me to believe that the feat is generally utilized during spell prep, and has no real affect on the casting process later (that is the final triggers, unless you are a spontaneous caster), even if you somehow lost the feat. Just my 2cp.

I would say that, if you are a prepared caster, you need the feat when memorizing the spell, not when casting it, but I don't think there is a official rule.

Ravingdork, wraithstrike's quote is found on CRB p112 under Metamagic Feats.

I would agree with wraithstrikes reading. For metamagic you must have the feat to both prepare and cast the spell (based on the reference wraithstrike posted).
