Brawler + Monk + Monk's robes question

Rules Questions

If you were to build a Brawler lvl 1, Monk lvl 2, and were to wear Monk's Robes, would you have unarmed damage counting as monk lvl 12?

Brawler counts as a monk for the purpose of magic items. unarmed damage is keyed off monks progression table. Wearing the robe he would be lvl 6 on the progression table for unarmed damage.

Monk wearing the robes counts as monk lvl 6 for unarmed damage progression.

This came up in a game, and the chat went two ways. You count as monk lvl 12 on unarmed damage, as the item would effect both classes, and then both classes stack. The second direction was both classes stack, lvl 2, then the robe takes effect, making you lvl 7.

Which way does it go?

Monk and brawler progressions are separate, aka the levels don't stack. So you can count as a level brawler or level 6 Monk for any attack you make.

If you are to houserule that they stack then the best rule would be that you get your total IUS level and add to that, so lv7.

But the rules are that the IUS levels don't stack.
