*Spoilers* PFS 7-12: Nira's Gratitude Question

I played PFS 7-12 at gencon and decided to take Nira as a familiar later. As such i have some questions.

1. What item slots does Nira have?

2. Does she come with a tiny dagger or do you need to buy the dagger separately?

3. Can she use wands/scrolls or activate magic items, assuming she has UMD?

Going forward, it's best to ask questions about a scenario's Chronicle over in the GM Discussion Forum (no need for spoilers over there).

That being said...

1) Neck and Armor.
2) If her statblock comes with a tiny-sized dagger, she'd come with one. If not, since there are no prices for a tiny-sized dagger, you'd have to use other means to acquire one.
3) Nope (though this, and other unique Familiar options, are hopefully being reviewed soon by Campaign Leadership).

Even if I had her take the Extra Item slot feat?

and thank you for the suggestion, I wasn't quite sure where to ask.

Extra Item Slot is a little tough.

She is arguably Humanoid in shape, and should in theory have the same allotment as "Bipedal (Hands)", but the only chart we have as a reference doesn't list Constructs (among others, like Elementals), so the conservative argument is that she can only wear items available to all Familiars (Neck and Armor).

What did you want to give her?

Hadn't decided yet, however toughness and improved init are not really helpful for a familiar...

Sorry, rereading the OP's post and editing to be more relevant. :)

I also assume that Nira has a humanoid body type, although as Nefreet notes, that's not explicitly mentioned anywhere. You might get some table variation.

Assuming we can determine what body type she is, what slots does she have available? There's a Mike Brock post floating around the forums that says that improved familiars have all their item slots available by default. (The Extra Item Slot feat lists "Non-humanoid body shape" as a prerequisite, so a humanoid Nira would not be eligible to take the extra slot feat in any event.)

I almost never assume that any hireling, familiar, AC comes with anything. Seems like a bad idea.

Having had the conversation about the availability of tiny weapons and armor in the past, here's a funny thing--the Fame tables don't specify exactly what sorts of things they unlock. After digging through the forums and having a conversation with my VC the ruling we all arrived at (and what seems to be the prevailing ruling in the posts I found in the forum about it, although as we all know different posts reach different conclusions) is that when you hit 5 fame, mundane weapons and armor of unusual size become available so long as they are cheaper than what your fame score allows. They are not listed as "Always Available" but everything in the Core rulebook is legal unless noted, Tiny weapons/armor are not listed as unavailable for PFS, and Fame does not specify that it only unlocks magical gear, so presumably it unlocks access to all legal gear including mundane stuff of weird sizes. A clarification from campaign staff could change this, still.

Can she UMD stuff? This is tricky because it depends on two things: 1. is she on the exclusive list of familiars that can UMD? and 2. why were the familiars on that list chosen?
1. Is she on the list? No.
2. What types of familiars were chosen for UMD-ness? Humanoid-shaped ones. I remember Brock saying something about "They need hands, not claws." I have previously said I assume she's humanoid. She certainly seems to have hands.

My ruling as a GM would be no--she cannot UMD, but it would be reasonable to ask for a clarification on both her body shape and UMD-ability. Expect table variation but most GMs I know would probably lean no on UMD.

Mike Brock on improved familiars and the extra slot feat:

Not exactly what was asked, but it does mean you shouldn't need extra slot.

Currently we have no rules for it I'm afraid, but I did put in a proposal in my research for the post-Gencon followup to that FAQ.

Can a mod please update the title of this thread to reflect the name of the adventure?
