Fantasy Flight and Games Workshop sever ties.

Thought this may be of interest to folks here who may not have seen it.

I don't know who is making decisions at GW lately but they don't seem to be good for growing their brands. (at least in my unlettered opinion)

Though I will miss the RPGs, I am more upset about them losing Talisman Boardgame.

Am I being a poor sport for hoping that this proves to be a fatal mistake for GW?

GW must have some grand plan for their IP.

Seemed like a win-win partnership - GW had no interest in developing products (like RPGS and board games) that didn't move sales of their miniatures and FFG filled in the gap and did it admirably. FFG's products had consistently fine production values and brought some new folks into their gaming worlds.

I will be sorry to see all those RPGs and boardgames go out of production (again!). Good thing I bought all the FFG stuff I wanted, prices will skyrocket after this announcement.

I'm kind of with you there... every experience I've had with GW as a business has been uniformly negtive.

Picked up a copy of Forbidden Stars last week at standard cover price (mwahaha) which is good, as I've already seen it go for quite a lot more online.

As for why this happens, it's because Fantasy Flight picked up the Star Wars licence which, of course, has been massively more successful and lucrative for them and GW wanted to put more money into their own range of board games which could use existing miniatures for crossover purposes, so it all worked out quite well for them. The only problem is the great Fantasy Flight stuff (like Forbidden Stars and the RPGs) going out of print. You'd hope GW would have the brains to realise how popular the 40K RPG stuff was and to re-release the material themselves or develop a new ruleset if they can't use the existing stuff. Make it a bit more open to using miniatures for combat and they can cross-market with their miniatures range as well.
