will the bankruptcy of Hanjin Shipping affect paizo products being shipped from china?

I am not a Paizo employee, but Hanjin was South Korean, primarily serving routes to and from there. Products manufactured in SK (Samsung, LG) are going to likely have issues. Products printed in China (Paizo's), not likely.

There could, of course, be impact as other competing shipping companies redirect capacity to the SK routes, reducing the massive excess of shipping overcapacity that exists right now, which could increase prices in other markets. Still, that's really indirect and hard to predict at this early juncture.

What Anguish said. Pretty much nailed it. No impact right now, but it could affect shipping prices in the coming months and perhaps availability of stuff.

It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out, to be sure. I can't even fathom how much Hanjin's bankruptcy will affect global markets. One could say we're... sailing into uncharted waters here...

Nautical puns!

I love it how the media are talking about people being "stranded at sea". That phrasing really is awkwardly funny. :)

Of course nothing funny about those people's plight.

Indeed.

Really hoping those guys find a port of call somewhere real soon. Probably not going to happen for a month or two, but here's hoping.

My understanding is that it's purely artificial. The only thing keeping the ships from docking is that they may not be permitted to leave again, with the ships held as collateral against port fees. At the very worst, the crews - who are frequently "rented" non-employees - could be removed via small ships. They owe the owning company nothing since they're (mostly) contract workers whose contracts are being voided. So nobody's stranded per-se.

Can it be done? Sure. But there's a very complicated web of laws and contracts in place that makes it so there's a lot of barriers to so doing at the moment.

-Speculation-
Hanjin's assets are frozen, so they can't just pay the fee. Ports may not be able to take the ships as collateral depending on their country's laws, or may not be able to because Hanjin can't agree to it as Hanjin's assets (the ships) are frozen. Sailors may not want to leave yet, as it would doubtless be a breach of their contracts with their company, and the company doesn't want to breach their contract with Hanjin by removing the crews because Hanjin is on the hook, not the crewing company.

Eventually, humanitarian aid will be issued by the appropriate parties or the SK court proceedings pertaining to Hanjin will complete and those assets will be freed up, but in the meantime the sailors are stuck there lest they run afoul of international laws or the like. Probably.

-/Speculation-

It's a great big fuzzy mess and it'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

I am not an immigration attorney, but my understanding is that contracted sailors may have very limited immigration rights in the country where their ship docks. Depending on which country they're at and their own nationality, they may not be let in by the local immigration officials... especially in these times with severe anti-immigration sentiments in many places. Plus, even if they can disembark, getting back to their home countries will be on their own dime...
