How do you play games?

I tend to play a game for a bit then move on to another then another. I usually don't finish a game before moving on. I usually play till I get bored. I have a "stable" of a few games that I rotate through.

Recently it has been LOTRO, Civ 5, Cities Skylines. Currently I'm on Pillars of Eternity. There are others as well.

So, how do y'all play your games? One at a time till completion? Or rotate like me?

Depends on the game. If its a 30+ hour RPG I might switch to other games and only come back to it a long time later, while an average 10 hour game usually gets finished before I switch to another game.

Also if there is a bit which i can't get past after like 5 attempts I usually put the game down for up to a couple of months. The only exception so far have been the Dark Souls games, they just keep giving me the feeling that I know how to do better next time, even if i died quicker on my most recent attempt than on any of the ones before. Most other games just feel unfair and I just walk away before they start gmaking me angry.

On a game like Skyrim, with a real, organic feeling open world (as opposed to the Assassin's Creed style, where its just a map full of little icons signalling the same 5 activities to repeat), I can spend hundreds of hours in the game without playing anything else in between.

I am finishing Marvel Avengers Alliance. And by finishing I mean they are closing with the end of the month.

*sigh*

It's been good four years. There were periods of boring, there were annoyances (*cough-PVP-cough*, also periods of bug-feasts), but despite all its misgivings it was a nice game to play in between various others activities. Especially when I needed something to play in the background while doing other things on computer...

I'll be missing it.

I tend to fixate on a single game for 20 to 40 hours over the course of a few weeks. Then I get bored and never finish them. There are dozens of games in my steam lib with 15 to 20 hours before they lost me.

I used to be pretty good about sticking with a game until it was done but as I've gotten older I've noticed that I do more of the 'play until almost at the end and then put it down for ages/ever for no discernible reason' thing.

Not sure why that is. I've been doing better about making myself finish games by imposing a rule that I won't start a new one until I finish one that I'm already playing.

I used to stick with specific games until I purchased their replacements, but I've kind of gotten out of videogames in the last decade. Publishers mainlining microtransactions sort of sucked the wind out of my videogaming sails. I let it slide for a while but when it started to become shameless... Then again I also got laid off and make less money now so I can't just willy nilly afford to be a videogamer these days...

I'm too busy with Pathfinder to play any of my other games. :(

I'm a bit of a collector so I have a lot of games I didn't even start to play yet. The others I tend to start but seldom finish them. Partly because of time issues, partly for the pursuit of other activities but also partly because if I have stopped playing certain game for a certain amount of time I find it hard to reimmerse myself in it so I'd rather start the game from anew than to return to the game where I left it the last time.

It also doesn't help that I tend to return to older games on a regular basis (like the Baldur's gate series or Heroes of Might and Magic III) instead of giving newer ones a chance.

I'll usually play a game from beginning to end without much of a break, unless it is a long game. Most games I don't play to 100% completion unless I enjoy it immensely.

I do have a large backlog of games to get back to and a list of games I would love to get to that keeps growing.

I do enjoy working on my homebrew setting and playing board games with friends though, so I'll gladly keep getting further behind if it is for those reasons.

If the story has a beginning and an end I play through a game. If it is a sandbox I usually get really bored after a few hours of aimless crap and uninstall.
