Pathfinder version of whirling blade?

Is there a spell in Pathfinder that mimics the 3.5 spell whirling blade? It let you throw a melee weapon that attacked everyone in a line within range and returned back to the caster. It also let you use your casting stat for attack and damage.

The closest I can think of is telekinesis, violent thrust option. Storm of blades is more different but lower level.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Bladed Dash, Greater is also sort of what you are looking for, but it moves you 30', and is a melee attack. But it does get Int/Cha as a bonus on the attack roll.

The universalist wizard school gives a power called hand of the apprentice, which works sort of like a single-target version of this. I think the Magic domain does something too. No line version, though.

It's a shame - I really liked that spell.

Given a particularly powerful weapon (bane, disruption vs. undead, or just stacked with bonuses) this would be a very powerful effect. Probably should be higher than telekinesis... just checked and see it was only 2nd level, a 60' line, *and* let you substitute int/cha for attack and damage. Wow that's overpowered. Especially with any 'bane on demand' effect like Inquisitors.

Well, it was a sorcerer/wizard spell, so I wouldn't expect it to be an inquisitor spell. It kind of gave a nice ranged weapon option to arcane casters. They still had to attack with their crappy bab, so maybe not too overpowered. Maybe it should have been third level instead of 2nd level. I really thought it was a cool spell. It's a shame there is no pathfinder version of it.

Still look for a substitute for this spell. The closest I could find is the startosd style feat chain. Am I missing something?

I can't think of anything new in the last three years that better fits this, but it sounds like a fun idea for spell research.
