Gene Wilder Dead at 83
Sad to hear. He was brilliant. I'll have to watch one of his movies tonight, in his honor.
R.I.P. good sir.
Bows head in moment of silence.
Beat my by couple of seconds, Aber. This year has been brutal. Young Frankestein & Blazing Saddles remain my favorites.
"We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams."
Man, that stinks. RIP, sir. I just watched the old Universals of Frankenstein and BoF over the weekend (they were on TCM), so I guess I watch Young Frankenstein tonight to finish the set. :-\
Truly a master of his craft r.i.p. :-(

I'll take some comfort in knowing he'll be with his beloved Gilda again.
But man he was great

Tin Foil,
I take a measure of greater comfort that he's out there doing stand up with Richard Pryor.

...I will not cry for him, for he was a man who wanted to make people smile.
Instead, Mr. Wilder, I have just two words: "Thank you".
Indeed Red. Thank you, very much Mister Wilder. You made the world a much more bearable place.

From the articles I've seen, it appears he passed due to complications from Alzheimer's, but kept the diagnosis secret for the last three years so as not to disappoint fans.
I shall roll, roll, roll in ze hay in his honor.
Godspeed, you wonderful man. :(

Everyone who has not yet should watch both the Cisco kid and see no evil, hear no evil.
Because I am assuming everyone has seen everything else!
Kender,
You mean the FRISCO kid, not Cisco...

I wish for a moment, that I could put aside my better wisdom, and believe that. Failing that I take some comfort that the space/time he occupied will always be part of the universe.
Drah,
Well consider this: If the theory of a infinite number of universes, there's one where dead people's essences go, then perhaps there, Gene Wilder isn't dead but instead performing comedy sketches with Richard Pryor.

Unlike theists, and Transhumanists, I'm not a dualist, I'm afraid.
Drah,
Whadda mean you're not a duelist? I thought you LIKED rapiers! :p ;)
*is kidding*
But seriously, if everything is possible in an infinite number of universes, there's got to be one with something like Heaven.
Just like there's one where I can die and go on to be Sir Tirarias Bladeborn, 12th level paladin of Torm!
The afterlive just got a whole lot funnier - but he leaves a dark spot in this world. Goodbye Mr. Wilder.
Always struck me as a guy with an inner sadness....
