Medium - Champion Spirit question

Silver Crusade

Hey everyone! The Champion spirit gives you proficiency in one exotic weapon when it's channeled. Could I select said exotic weapon for Weapon Focus and for the Weapon Mastery Fighter archetype? I can see it go either way so I'm seeking clarification. Thanks!

Generally, you gain new feats when leveling up, and during that time, any temporary abilities are turned off. So that would result in Weapon Focus being unavailable for you to choose for that exotic weapon.
At least, that's my view on the matter.
Even if there are points to be made for this to work, I would advise not to go for it, because everytime you get a GM who doesn't allow it, you can't play the character because it's not legally built in their opinion.
(Unless of course, there's something official that says it works.)

I agree with Andreas on this one.

Hmmm. I'd actually say yes.

Unlike other temporary abilities like a Brawler's Martial Flexibility (which only lasts a minute) the medium ability lasts for a full day. During your "level-up period" presumably clerics still pray, wizards still read their spellbooks, and mediums still hold a seance. So there's no reason you couldn't channel the Champion every day.

The risk here is that if you ever choose to channel another spirit - or can't find a favored location of the champion - you won't be able to use those feats since you no longer have the prerequisite proficiency.

No, you can't use temporary things granted by your spirit as feat prerequisites, usually. But the way around this is the Legendary Influence feat from Ultimate Intrigue.

yes, bralwers take feats that require twf, they can only use them during their flurry. This seems like the same idea.

Silver Crusade

I agree with Andreas with pretty much the same suggestion.

I don't think that's exactly what Mark is saying.

The Legendary Influence feat can only act as a prereq for other feats the spirit gives you (like a high level champion could use it to build a chain with the champion's flexible bonus feats) but not for any other feats.
Ultimate Intrigue - Legendary Influence feat wrote:
Immediately select one feat (other than an item creation feat) for each spirit you can channel. Whenever you perform a seance to channel a spirit, you can allow the spirit to gain 1 point of influence over you to gain access to that spirit’s Legendary Influence feat for as long as you channel that spirit. You can use this bonus feat as a prerequisite for any feats granted by a spirit power (such as the champion’s legendary champion ability), but not for any other feats.

The specific is that you can't use the Legendary Influence feat for prerequisites. The weapon proficiency of the champion doesn't have that language, and Mark doesn't make any blanket statement about "temporary things."

However, now that I've seen that thread I would agree that you shouldn't try to use the base Champion bonus proficiency as a prerequisite. I do not believe that it's completely clear one way or the other but I am really not a fan of the "it doesn't say I can't do it!" school of argument in PFS. As Andreas said, some GMs may disallow it.

It's worthy of a FAQ in my opinion.
