You have listed two discoveries but only bought one.

Gotcha.

easy enough to miss, I use those feats a lot :)

Izen:
Izen is a tall, lithe man with ashen skin and dark grey hair cut short. As most kayals he has yellowish glow in his eyes. He prefers loose clothes that doesn't restrict movements.

Izen is driven by his curiosity. What lies beyond the horizon? What can be found in the goblins' den? What is his limit? Can he win a fight with a stronger opponent? Exploration and learning of one's forte is one of the most important things. Of course, getting rich while doing so is a nice, not unwanted, bonus.

He respects everyone who is able to prove oneself capable. Be it a mage, predicting events through magic and disabling opponents, or a warrior, cleaving into the enemies with pure strentgh.
Izen does like to show off on some ocasions. A man has to do that sometimes, doesn't he?

I have the feeling bucklers don't work with slashing grace.

FAQ

What exactly does it mean that “You do not gain this benefit while fighting with two weapons or using flurry of blows, or any time another hand is otherwise occupied?” Can I use a shield? What about a buckler? Can I use flurry of blows? Brawler’s flurry? Two-weapon fighting? Spell combat? Attack with natural weapons? What if I throw the weapon? What about swordmaster’s flair?

Slashing Grace does not allow most shields, but bucklers work because they don’t occupy the hand. Flurry of blows, brawler’s flurry, two-weapon fighting, and spell combat all don’t work with Slashing Grace. Attacking with natural weapons beyond the weapon you chose for Slashing Grace also does not work. Slashing Grace only works with melee attacks, not thrown attacks with a melee weapon. Swordmaster’s flair should have a sentence added to it that says “Carrying a swordmaster’s flair counts as having that hand free for the purpose of abilities that require a free hand, though you still can’t hold another object in that hand.”

I printed the whole FAQ, but bolded the relevant part.

That's...a godawful FAQ, I would have ruled the opposite for every and each situation, I have no words for how horrible I find it. But ok.

PS: If someone here is interested in spell-combat + slashing grace that's totally allowed in this game.

Thanks. I won't be using it myself, but that faq is an eyesore. I get twitches just reading it.

How so? I would agree with you that Flurry of blows seems to contradict the buckler idea (but it is specifically spelled out in the feat), but both two weapon fighting (where you actually have a weapon physically in the hand) and spell combat (where you have to make precise somatic gestures and grab spell components) are definitely the right call. The natural weapons one is iffy. Also, I'm not invested in the buckler anyhow, so if you want to change that it doesn't bother me at all as I always believe the GM can define things how he likes.

@ FLurry of blows: you can flurry of blows with a single weapon so you don't need the other hand at all, except by the infamous metaphorical hand thing.

@ Two weapon fighting: There could be sword+kick combo, again no other hand used except for the metaphorical hand.

@ Spell combat: You can combine dex scimitar + spellcombat just fine, but no way weaker spell combat + dagger? that's plain silly and only works to restrict players options.

@ Buckler: The balancing point of dex to damage (accompanied by the respective dex bonus to AC) is the no use f shields. There is no little difference between a buckler a and a heavy shield, specially when enhanced. Also, if your off-had is occupied (as implied by the no TWF) then as per the buckler rules the buckler should not give you the bonus to AC.

I any case, I don't like the FAQ but we already have plenty of houserules for this game so I will just go with the flow.

Sovereign Court

Interesting points. Again, I agree about the flurry of blows logic. Also, the thing you said about the buckler I hadn't thought of. I think in my games I will make that ruling also, that if you are using Slashing Grace, you lose your buckler AC for that round as that follows the rules for the buckler (essentially, the buckler just gives you protection when you are caught flat footed or are being targeted by ranged attacks before you engage in melee).

BTW, I really like that system you set up, I'm using Hero Lab to expand the class options and assign point values. I actually built the Sword Saint with the editor (the only part I haven't figured out yet is how to get the Orders option to propagate).

Hey DM - is Gareth better now in his new "healer" persona?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

"better" I don't know, but certainly interesting. A description of the Eidolon seems to be missing (what can I say, I like descriptions though I'm bad at making them)

Success!! Got the Orders to work in Hero Lab. Also, found out that Nimble was errataed so that it does not count as Dodge feat for prereqs so had to drop Hurtful to pick up Dodge. So now, finally, Devon is fixed. :) Now to play with the Editor and add the later level abilities.

Descriptions are cool! I had a brief one there for the eidolon already, though. I can add more meat :)

I think I will take my decision by friday night or saturday midday, anyone that want to participate have until friday morning to do post the full submission.

I gave it some thought and I'll withdraw.

Good luck everyone!

Dark Archive

okay, well i sure do hope we can establish a well balanced group! otherwize the strange assortment of abilities will be weird...

my character is a semi-caster melee combatant, akin to an inquisitor in build only alchemist in nature.

Party balance is overrated, I will not take that in consideration for choosing (though it seems there aren't many full submissions to choose from anyways). ANd in any case if there if midgame you find that the party is missing something important you can work to fix it at level up by choosing appropriate class features.

I know that, i just played an entire Crypt of the Everflame using wizards only... that was a fun game!

Ok, so far

Full submissions
- William nightmonon with Kitska
- Adsapiens with Gareth
- Jhonnycat with Red jaw jak

Partial submission
- Joshua 9093 is only missing the fluff
- Grumbaki with the Loreseeker and a description of f his PC personality
- AlexGNDl with an aerial ace class
- YoricksRequiem with the favored soul class

And I think that's it all.If nothing unexpected happens the recruitment result will be announced (at most) tomorrow and at the same time we will have the first campaign post.

Sovereign Court

you missed Galahad0430 with Devon Pratt full submission
